Pride

Pride

You had been keeping a pretty big secret for a long time now. It was hard, but you made sure it stayed in. To you, it technically wasn't lying. You just...didn't give away the full story. But being an Avenger and a Stark was making it extremely hard for you to hide.

For tonight, you had a great plan. You purchased a wig that was the complete opposite of your (h/c) hair, put on some outrageous makeup, and bought some new clothes that nobody would recognize you in. Tonight you were grabbing a drink, attempting to push that guilty feeling of "lying" away.

A drink turned into four, then a few more, up until you had to stumble back to the tower when they refused to keep serving you drinks. The walk back wasn't terrible since the bar was only a couple blocks from the tower. But it was tedious. Yeah, you were drunk, but you still knew you couldn't risk people seeing you enter the tower in your disguise. The only thing you could think of: go around back.

It wasn't practical, climbing a fucking tower in five inch stilettos, but it was working out alright. The super strength you possessed was very helpful in pulling your body up to the closest window, which happened to be at least 30 feet up. Security purposes (one of the things Happy insisted on while Tony worked on the tower design).

Opening the window was the easier part of your journey, yet it still wasn't a piece of cake. You ended up crashing through the open thing, making a very loud noise too. As you stood up and regained your balance (as best as you could for being drunk) you closed the window and left the agent's office you basically canon balled into.

The coast was clear as you walked to the elevator, leaving you no hassle with the night owls that work in SHIELD. In fact, the rest of the way to your room was met without interaction to your sober relief.

You got in the elevator and, through your pretty blurry vision, you selected the floor your room was on. You had to use the button since Friday was "sleeping". Tony mostly turned Friday off at night except for emergency alerts. Every now and then he would mumble something in the middle of the night, and she'd reply. It scared him of course, and he would scream, but he changed the settings on her.

The doors to the elevator opened up and you stumbled into your bedroom, and collapsed onto the bed.

~3 months later~

"Tony, no."

"Please!"

"No!" you yelled back to him. You were sprawled out on the couch and Tony was sitting in the kitchen eating something he just found on the counter. "It's my private life."

"Yeah well you're my sister," Tony said, taking the final bite of his snack and coming over to you. He leaned over the back of the couch as he talked to you. "I need to know the guy you're dating so I can give him the big brother talk. I'm thinking of doing it in my suit as well."

You groaned and rolled off the couch, landing on your feet. "Yeah it's a definite no," you said back and started to walk away. Tony followed you and grabbed your arm. You spun to face him as he let go.

"I just wanna know. Can I get a first initial?"

"No."

"A last initial?"

"Nope."

"Their favorite color?" Tony asked, throwing his hands up in near defeat.

You sat and thought for a second, then turned around to walk to the elevator. "Red."

Tony walked around the floor in the tower that housed everyone, looking for Wanda. Of course he figured she'd be in her room. That was the obvious choice. But he still peeked into everyone else's room to make sure she wasn't visiting others.

He got to the Sokovian's room and did two knocks on the door before entering. "Hey Maximoff I have a quick qu-" Tony was surprised into silence. There in front of him, his sister was cuddling with Wanda Maximoff.

The latter looked at Tony, her eyes widening when she put the situation together. The two sat in a very uncomfortable silence while you laid down, very asleep. The silence seemed to stretch on for hours, until Wanda cleared her throat.

"Um, hey...Tony," she said, now doing anything to avoid eye contact with the billionaire. "So this is...interesting." Tony merely nodded in agreement. Wait, why was he embarrassed? If anything he should be pissed that you, his sister, (Y/n) Stark decided to keep this from him.

"I can assume you're the person (Y/n)'s been dating these past, what, three months now? The person who, I assumed was a guy as well, and likes the color red?" Tony asked her. Wanda nodded along, but didn't say anything. "Why wouldn't she tell? Hell why wouldn't she tell me that she's gay? Is it something I said?"

Wanda sighed and looked from you to Tony, unsure if she would be the one to tell him. "Look, I know you're upset and want answers. The most I can tell you is that it's not your fault. I'll let her explain the rest to you," Wanda said. Tony sighed and went to leave the room, completely forgetting the original reason he came in there in the first place. Before he made it out the door all the way, Wanda spoke up one more time. "It means a lot to her, okay? Just...listen to her."

~~

A couple hours later after you had woken up, you and Wanda had a discussion. She told you that you needed to tell Tony. She was pretty adamant too, not telling you exactly why, just saying that he deserves to know. After that, the two of you would tell the team.

So now you were walking to the common room to talk to Tony. Well, to find him first. When you entered you saw the team just sitting around on the couches and chairs. Steve was reading a book on a chair closest to you, so you decide to ask him about your brother's whereabouts.

"You Steve," you said, waltzing to his chair. He looked up and smiled at you and marked the page he was on.

"What do you need?" he asked.

"Do you know where Tony is?"

A small pause. Then, "Lab."

"Thanks."

You left him to continue reading and to find Tony. The journey to the lab was filled with you thinking about how the hell to tell him. He was going to be mad- no, pissed, that you waited so long. Maybe he'd understand...

The door to the lab was open and so you just walked inside. Tony and Bruce were working on their things, both chatting just a bit.

Bruce saw you first, and gave you a wave. "Hey (Y/n). Whatcha need?" he asked. You smiled back at him, and figured it might be best to tell Tony in private.

"I need to talk to Mr. Stank over here if you don't mind," you half asked him. Luckily Bruce understood.

"No worries. I was finishing up anyways. See you later Tony." Bruce nodded to you and left the lab after cleaning his hands off. Now it was just you and Tony in an uncomfortable silence. He seemed to be having too many of those today.

You finally cleared your throat and sat on a stool that was a couple away from Tony. "So I have no idea how to start this off," you said, rubbing the back of your neck and looked at your feet rather than your brother.

"How about with 'I lied to you and have been dating Wanda for three months'?" You inhaled sharply and started to choke on the sudden air flowing into your mouth. Once you regained your composure you looked at Tony, who had now dropped his tools and project and opted for staring at you instead.

"How did you find out?" you asked sheepishly, curling into yourself a bit. You could've tried the denial approach, but that would've been a dead end.

Tony stood up and started to walk around. Uh oh. "Well, I was going to see my teammate Wanda. I walked into her room to ask her a question, and found you two cuddling. Luckily it was just that, but I kinda pieced it together quickly," Tony said. His hands were gesturing a lot as he paced around.

God you felt bad. You basically lied by omission for three months to him, and he was more than likely really hurt by that. Sadness flooded your mind and you curled your legs up to your chest and placed your forehead on your knees. You let out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry," you said. It came out muffled and stained, and caught Tony's attention.

"Hey hey you're okay. Don't- please don't cry- shit," Tony said. He didn't know what to do. He was mad because you didn't tell him something that was a huge part of you, but he surely didn't want you to cry about it.

"No, it's not okay Tony," you said, lifting your head. "I didn't tell you and I should've. I was just...I was scared." Tony was shocked by what you said.

"Scared of my reaction?"

"No," you said shaking your head. You sniffed and rubbed your eyes. "Scared of the public's reaction. I'm not only an Avenger, but I'm a Stark. Everybody would figure it out. And I'm scared that-that one day I'll be walking to the grocery store just to grab Thor more pop tarts, or more milk for everyone, or Clint's coffee, and I'll be attacked. I'm scared that people would attack you over it. Hell, I'm fucking terrified people would attack WANDA over it. She's my damn girlfriend. I just...I already fear for my life on the battlefield. I don't want to fear for it at home."

Tony had to take a second, and he sat on the stool next to yours. He looked at the floor, thinking. Is that really what happens out there? he thought to himself. You sniffed again and caught his attention, and he looked back up at you. Tears had started to drip down your face again.

"Hey no you're okay (Y/n) I swear." He pulled you into a hug, and you accepted it gladly. You took a couple deep breaths to steady your breathing again and allowed the hug to go on for a couple minutes.

After what felt like forever, you both pulled away. "I need to tell the team. But I definitely don't want to make a statement to the press. It's my private life and I'd rather people not know ever little detail," you said. Tony smiled and the two of you walked upstairs to the common room.

~~

Wanda had moved the common room as well, and was lounging around on the couch. Her feet were thrown over the back of the couch and her back was where her butt should've been. Her head was dangling down and blood was rushing to it.

But when you entered the room with Tony and tears streaked down your face, Wanda was up within a second or two. "What happened? Are you okay?" she asked you, and was in front of you before a reply could even form in your mind. She held your face in her hands as she wiped the tears away.

Finally you were able to nod out your reply, and Wanda sighed in relief. She placed a kiss on your cheek, and then realized they were not alone. In fact, at this point in the day, nearly every Avenger was there.

You both turned to face the others, who were all very shocked. All except for Tony, who figured all this out two hours ago.

"Story time?" you offered out, and everyone nodded their heads.

Flashback:

When stumbled into what you thought was your room and onto what you expected was your bed, you realized you were kinda wrong. Wanda came out from her bathroom in her pajamas and freshly brushed teeth, and saw you laying on her bed. Whoops.

"(Y/n)? What are you doing in my room this late?" she asked you. You slurred a drunken response, and Wanda figured it out. She walked over to the side you were facing to talk to you. "I'm going to use my powers to take you back to your room, okay?" she asked you.

Rather than a yes or no, you sprung a confession on her. "You are super cute. Did you know that? I have like, like liked you for a reeeeeaaaaally long time. But I thought you were straight. I mean I still think you are. Clearly I'm not."

She wanted to either burst into laughter and stay in her confused state, so Wanda picked the middle option of letting out a confused laugh. "(Y/n), you're drunk and confused. Let's just...get you to bed," she said, urging you to get out of her room. It wasn't that she didn't like you, it was quite the opposite actually. She just didn't want this to happen when you were drunk and not in any state to make reason.

"Haven't you heard the saying about how drunk people tell the deep truths? Or however the goddamn saying goes. But I'm telling the truth. I've always been scared to say it out loud, and now...well I won't remember so I don't give a shiiit." Wanda let out a genuine laugh that she quickly tried to stop. It was the middle of the night after all.

Wanda let out a sigh at you and your drunk self, finally falling asleep on her bed. She rolled her eyes and stole one of the pillows off the bed. As she walked over to the couch in her room, you grabbed her wrist.

"Don't leave me. Please."

~~

"So that's the story of how you two got together?" Steve asked once Wanda was done. She nodded back to him. "Well...I'm fine. I totally support you two. It's just certainly different than the 30s." You smiled at the blond soldier, great full you had another supporter.

After him everyone else said they were happy too, and you even got a group hug (Clint's idea). You were okay, but you still weren't going to explicitly tell the public. They could find out for themselves one day.
