***Disclaimer: didn't realize until after writing it that the time line is of by a good bit, so we'll just pretend that ages match up and stufffffff cause I don't want to rewrite this
Also I was inspired by spiderbails and her recent chapter on her Avengers Parent Preference book (I highly recommend checking it out)
Also maybe a trigger warning? Idk
Pepper and Tony weren't married yet, but they did have a happy accident. That happy accident was you. They couldn't be more thrilled to have you in their lives, but to Tony, it meant he'd lose even more if he got KIA. So everyday he seriously considered retiring. But then so much happened. Ultron, the team split, Bruce going rouge, Peter coming into the picture, and by the time you were 14, Thanos was in the stupid picture.
When you had turned 13, Tony had thought you were old enough to start learning how to defend yourself against some threats. You inherited his brain power, so you had already created a lot of tech for you to use in combat, but now you were finally able to use it and not get in trouble. So now at 14, you had made so much stuff and things for you and your dad, and the best part was you knew how to work it all. In fact, you helped your dad design his new Nanotechnology based suit. Sure it was a blast, but you never expected to be standing beside your father in New York City along with two strange wizards and Bruce again, facing two alien dudes, inside of your suit.
Your suit was very advanced like your dad's, but it had more you in it. For starters, the shape of the suit fit you better (as you had an extra chest feature your father didn't have to try and accommodate), but the weapons you put in just fit your personality. Your favorite is the glitter canon. It works as a great distraction AND decoration tool. In combat, you preferred it as a distraction so you could follow it up with your blasters and it was just so much fun! The glitter was all sorts of colors too. The color of your suit was also close to you. It was gold as well, but the main color rather than red was black. It felt much more...you, and less of a copycat of your dad.
But the aliens in front of you were too good for the glitter blasters. One had telepathy or something, making it really hard for you to get a good shot at...it. So you and the others fought your hardest against these extra terrestrial beings, and you thought it was over until you saw one of the wizards (Strange, you thought) getting beamed up into the donut space ship. Then you saw the spider kid you heard much about get on it to save him. What did it, though, was seeing your dad go and try to chase after. So like any reasonable person, you followed. But it's not like you knew what would happen.
You had gotten onto the ship and were hiding for a bit, and you watched your dad and Spiderman fight of the one alien guy, before he was sucked into space. Strange was safe, and there was no need for you to reveal yourself yet. The mask on your face was getting quite annoying, and ended up on the floor when you managed to get it off. As you sat there watching them, you thought, 'oh, I'll just hide out and when they find a way to earth I'll pop up and stuff'. But of course, life didn't want you to get off that easy, and suddenly someone from behind you had an arm around your torso and a hand over your mouth. You still screamed, but it was muffled from the hand.
"Hey hey woah woah woah! Shoot my guy, and I'll blast this one!" the guy holding you hostage yelled. Suddenly the hand was off your mouth and you gasped for air, very dramatically.
Your dad was looking at you with a sort of surprised betrayal in his eyes. "Wh-what...how did you get on here? You should've stayed home!" he yelled, sort of forgetting the other people in the room. Spiderman's mask came off and he looked at you surprised.
"What are you doing here (y/n)?" he asked, taking a step towards you, but then stopping and putting his hands up when the gun in your captor's hand aimed at him. "You could get killed!" he continued on.
You were just in shock at the fact that your best friend was Spiderman and in space with you and these other weirdos. "You...you're...I KNEW IT!" you exploded, pointing at him. Your excitement broke you out of the hold, but he soon caught you again.
Soon your dad and the guy keeping hold of you had a discussion, your eyes slightly widening at your dad yelling out, "dip-shit". Peter was a little surprised too. Finally the guy let go of you and you stepped out of his reach, turned around, and took a look at him. He was human, and an attractive one at that. Yet, he was saddled out of your age range. Oof.
You walked over to your dad and gave him a hug, which he gladly returned. "Why did you follow me?" he asked. It was evident that he was trying not to cry in front of these new people, in front of the kid that idolized him, in front of you. "You're not safe here sweetheart. I-I don't want to lose you. This is dangerous and you're only 14. Peter is older than that," he continued on. His arms were still wrapped around you tightly.
"Dad, I'm going to be okay. I promise."
~Time Skip~
You may have promised that you'd be okay, but that didn't account for anyone else. When Thanos had stabbed your father's own weapon right through his side, it reminded you of the day he got kidnapped and nearly killed by his own bomb. You thought he was a goner. In a sickening way, it was poetic to be made and murdered by your own weapons.
The second the sword split your dad's flesh, you screamed from where you had been tossed carelessly by the man with the nut sack chin. "No!" Yes, it was a cliche thing to yell, but it was all you could think of. That's the last thing you did with a functioning brain: scream for your father.
Stephen ended up handing over the stone to save your father's life, and you looked ver at him with a 'thank you' lingering in your eyes. But the first thing you did when the purple green-bean giant left was hurry to your dad as fast as you could, which wasn't very fast, but you tried. He was trying to heal his wound using the mini-cradle he and Dr. Cho had worked on. He looked up to see you and your pained form. Bruises littered your face and arms, and your suit was MIA. You were sure all the nano bits had been broken off.
"Dad," you breathed out, quickly sitting by him and hurting your arms around his neck. You were in tears now, and your dad was pretty close as well.
"I'm so sorry (Y/N). I'm so sorry. This is all my fault," he mumbled, over and over again. When you tried to disagree with him, more sobs just fell out of your mouth. Peter came over as well, and you heard mumbles of words being exchanged, but were too busy crying into your miraculously living father.
After a couple more minutes, you were stable enough to get up and gave Peter a hug as well. You were all standing for a minute, when you heard Mantis say something alarming. "Something's happening."
Suddenly, before your very eyes, she turned to-to ash. Drax was next. They called out for others, scared. Nobody knew what was going on. Nebula stayed near the side, but was alarmed. Quill was next and hey mumbled "oh man," before disappearing before me.
"Dad, what's going on?" you asked. You turned to him, but he was looking at Stephen.
"It was the only way," he whispered, almost sounded strangled, before he went away. Now you looked to the last three people in front of you. You let out a breath when you figured it was over, but then Peter stumbled around.
"Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good," he said, before falling into your dad's arms, into his mentor's arms, his idol's arms. They fell and that's when the tears poured out of your face. "I'm sorry," he whispered so quietly, so much pained jammed into those two words, leaving a hole in your head. A scar, that no matter what you did, it was too deep to remove forever. He disappeared, and the sadness in your dad's eye was so much to handle, you couldn't take it.
"No..." you whined, and more tears squeezed out of your eyes. Your dad looked at you and held you, making sure you would leave him too. "He's gone...they're all gone dad...I'm scared," you sobbed into his shoulder. He rubbed your back soothingly as he left som tears loose as well. "Dad," you kept sobbing. You felt bad for Nebula, as she was here standing and being awkward.
~Time Skip One Year~
It had been a couple months since you made it back home with your dad and Nebula. She was getting along alright with Nat and Rocket, but she was still sort of an outcast. But you weren't noticing. For those few moths you've been back, you've been primarily in your room. School was back on, and you had to go, but it's not like you were that involved.
Everyday you shuffled in and out of classrooms, stared blankly at walls and your desk when teachers talked to you, and didn't complete your work at all. Some teachers didn't care, but the few that did would pull you aside as the rest of your classmates left, and would say "Are you okay?" And you always responded, glassy eyes, "yeah." You were once asked to go to the counselors office to have a discussion with her, but you just said "I'm fine" over and over. Everybody else was okay, so why couldn't you say you were too?
Tonight, your mom and dad we're heading out to grab some lunch. They were engaged and needed time to reconnect after the...event, and you said you were cool with it. They deserved it. It gave you alone time as well.
"Alright (y/n), you need to go to bed at around 10-ish if you want to get up at a decent time for school tomorrow!" your mom yelled as she and your dad walked out the door.
'Don't worry,' you thought. 'I won't even go to sleep.'
The door closed and you sat on the couch in the living room, a bowl of all sorts of chips in front of you. You silently snacked on them while watching a horror movie. You know, something to keep you awake rather than going asleep. The paranoia and stuff you'd get from the movie didn't affect you as much as the real world horror.
You were baffled at how people were able to move on and go on with their lives after the decimation. You didn't want to close your eyes, you didn't want to fall asleep because every time you do, the image of your father being impaled, or Peter disappearing in front of you burns in your eyes. It was an impossible task for you to sleep, and eating was next to it, because it was just so hard for you to pick up anything sharp without a thought of your father being stabbed.
Peter's disappearance was hardest on you, because at least you could hold your dad and know he was right there, alive. Peter is...was your best friend for as long as you could remember. The two of you went to school together, and your acquaintanceship turned to friendship, and then you two just couldn't be seen without the other. Your dad obviously used the two of you's connection to confront him on being Spiderman, and Peter held his ground well (your dad told you about this about a month after the decimation, when you just needed a good memory of Peter to hold on to).
In the middle of your thoughts, the faint sound of a door opening broke through, and you broke out of your trance. The screen had changed to black, and the lights had dimmed down some, Jarvis' doing no doubt. You looked for the time on your watch, and it was 2 am. Not only were your parents home late, but you were up late. They'd get pissed.
You heard some giggles, and turned to see them leaning on each other. They both obviously had a bit to drink. But once they saw you, they sobered up. It was your appearance that did so. The dark raccoon circles under your eyes (sorry Rocket), your pale complexion, and the way your eyes were somewhat glassy. That was all Tony needed to see before he knew something was wrong.
"(Y/n), why are you awake? It's 2 am!" your mom yelled at you. You didn't flinch at this outburst, as you had seen it coming and weren't mentally awake enough to understand it. Your dad saw how blank you were, and walked up to you, before sitting down next to you.
"Honey, why haven't you been sleeping?" he asked cautiously. Your head turned to him, and you were slightly confused as to ow he came up with this. You shouldn't have been, but you were in denial.
"What do you mean?" you tried, attempting as best as you could to dodge to question. But now your mom knew what was going on, so she sat on the other side of you, and gently stroked your arm.
She took in a deep breath and spoke, "The circles under your eyes are a dead giveaway, (y/n). What's going on in your beautiful mind?" she asked, leaning a bit closer to you. Testing the waters, to make sure you wouldn't lash out.
But no more. In your head, you debating long and hard as to wether or not you told someone what was going on, to tell them what you see, and what you think about. It was a scary world in you head, but you finally decided to come clean.
"I can't sleep. I'm scared, because when I close my eyes I see a sword of my father's own creation killing him, and my best friend turning into dust and ash. I see people suffering, I see that big purple maniac looking at me menacingly and taunting me. I'm so scared, and I just don't understand how people can move on so fast," you said, the last few words turning into sobs as they left your mouth. Now your parents just absorbed you into a hug, not letting you go until you were calmer.
"You're taking a break from school. I'm going in tomorrow to tell your principal you're taking a break due to mental health. If he doesn't like that, he can suck my-"
"Tony," your mom cut him off with a warning tone. You laughed, and saw how good it felt to laugh with them. To be happy, and to not think about the bad in the world for just one moment.
"(Y/n), you're going to be okay." Tony Stark could be wise at times, and though this simple line may not sound like it, it meant so much more to you than he thought it would.
You might actually be okay.
~Bonus (Third POV)~
Tony Stark walked into the Midtown High office, and was almost instantly greeted by the principal. They walked into his office, and they sat down for a second.
"This won't take long," Tony started as he removed his sunglasses. "I just came to let you know (Y/n) is taking a break." The principal looked baffled. Tony just sat there and let his eyes wander shamelessly around the office while the other man gather himself up again.
"And why is that? You know it's illegal to keep a child from school, right?" he asked, still not believing what the richer man just said. Tony said a simple yes, and the principal was still confused, so he continued. "So you're just taking (Y/n) out why, because you can do whatever you want?" He scoffed and leaned back in his chair, while shaking his head.
"Well, yes, I can do whatever I want, but that's not why," Tony said, before putting his sunglasses back on and standing up from his chair. He was starting to leave when the principal had another question.
"Why?" he asked. Tony was at the door, but he turned and gave a small shrug opened the door, and took a step before answering and closing the door.
"Mental health."

A/N: Hey my dudes! Yes this chapter was on the angsts side, but I finally got it done. It didn't end the way I wished, but you know what, it's content. My next few chapters will be based off the Twins imagine I did, but they will be for the others. Some will be identical twins, so I'm sorry you won't be able to visualize yourself, but others will be fraternal.
Seriously guys, thanks so much for the love on this! I'm surprised I've done this well. Just...wow.
So, I hope everybody has a great week, and I don't know if I want to do a Valentines imagine, because that holiday makes me lonely and sad, so...
Bye Lovelies!!!!!!
