Blue Like Me
A few months after the Battle of New York, Thor had come back to visit Earth. Well, this wasn't his first time visiting. What made this visit different was that he was bringing Loki with him. It was some condition of his brother's 'imprisonment' and such.
Thor explained it on his last visit, you just didn't remember most of what he said.
Then they arrived, and everyone was on edge. Thor was the happy god he usually is, and Loki was the literal exact opposite. When they arrived on the roof, you swore you saw Loki glance to the edge. Possibly contemplating if Asgardians can survive the fall. Probably hoping not.
As you all walked down and showed Loki to his room, someone tripped and caused a small domino affect. Thor stumbled slightly and since he was right next to Loki, he stumbled as well.
You were right next to Loki, and grabbed onto his wrist before he could stumbled into you, because he'd most likely send you into the wall and that was just embarrassing.
When your fingers came into contact with his bare skin, a blue color started to spread across your hand. It freaked you out, so you removed your hand quickly and shoved it in your pocket.
Loki was definitely looking at you, but you refused to look at him. You kept your gaze forward and focused on the hall in front of you.
A couple days went by and you nearly forgot about the incident, enjoying the ability to relax and make some new friends. It was all going well, until Tony was trying to get some things set up for a party.
It involved dry ice. You didn't realize that's what was on the counter, so you happily tried to catch it when it fell off.
"That's dry ice!" Natasha warned but was too late.
You expected to feel the "cold burn" of the ice but didn't. Instead, that same blue from when you touched Loki started to spread across your hand. It didn't stop there, though; blue was crawling up your arm and spreading across your body. You could feel the change happening and started to hyperventilate.
The dry ice fell from your hand, landing with a loud 'thud.' You backed away staring at your hands. Walking past a mirror, you looked and saw your whole face was blue and the eyes staring back were a blood red.
You let out a terrified scream, your hands coming up to hide your face.
"(Y/n)?" Her voice was distant, but Natasha was still there. "(Y/n)..." You pulled your hands away from your face when you heard her getting closer and held them out in front of you.
"Don't come near me!" you shouted. By now, the other Avengers had rushed into the room, probably started running when they heard your scream. You backed away and into a sitting area.
A table came into contact with your thigh, causing you to stumble back and grab onto it for support. What you didn't expect was for the piece of wood to freeze under your hands. You let out a noise that sounded like a choked scream as you quickly removed your hand and crawled back.
"(Y/n), calm down, it's okay." You looked up. Steve was carefully walking towards you.
You shook your head quickly. "No, no, no, don't get near me! I don't want to hurt you!" Tears blurred your vision and started to drip down your cheeks. "I don't know what's wrong with me!" you sobbed.
But Thor did. He had hurried into the room with everyone else when he heard your scream. When he saw your blue skin and the red eyes, he knew exactly what was "wrong" with you. And he knew who could help.
Amidst the others trying to calm you down (unsuccessfully), Thor hurried out and ran down the hallway towards the rooms.
He ran until he found the door to Loki's room, then burst in without any warning whatsoever. His brother had been sitting on his bed, reading something that fell out of his hands at Thor's less than graceful entrance.
"Thor, learn to knock-"
However, Thor did not care for Loki's attitude. He grabbed the other god's arm and practically pulled him off the bed. Luckily, Loki was able to recover and get on his feet before his oaf of a brother dragged him down the hallway.
"What the hell is going on!" Loki yelled as Thor hurried back down the hall.
Thor's grip on Loki's arm still quite tight. "I need your help," came the low reply.
They came barreling out of the hallway, scaring the other Avengers. They all turned and saw who Thor had brought. In all honesty, they didn't even realize he had gone.
"Thor, what the hell are you thinking?" Steve yelled, but the blond god just ignored him and tugged his younger brother along with him.
Loki was ready to say something, most likely snarky, because he was also very confused. Until Thor stopped moving and Loki turned to see what he was looking at.
All the attitude and snark died at the sight of you. You were curled away in the corner sobbing, your bright blue skin a contrast to the gray of the wall.
Loki looked over at his brother, shocked that he would think of him to help. Thor looked at his brother and nodded, practically begging with his eyes, "Please help her, I know you can."
He turned his head back to look at you, surprised to see your red eyes staring back at him. There was some commotion behind him, but he ignored it. Thor turned around to deal with the rest of the team, keeping them from trying to grab Loki.
This was a weird situation, Loki thought. He didn't exactly know where to start. "Uh..." he breathed out, then decided to kneel down to be at your level.
Your eyes stayed on him the whole time, unsure of where this was going. Even though you were on guard, your breaths were still fast and shaky, you were still panicking at the blue that covered your skin and the red that took over your once (e/c) eyes.
Neither of you spoke, you just held eye contact. That is, until Loki finally spoke. "It's okay," he started, cautious scooting closer.
You shook your head. "No, no stay away! I don't want to hurt anyone," you sobbed. At this point, your whole body shook with your quick breaths and sobs.
"You're not," Loki countered. When he figured that game of 'no you won't' 'yes I will' wasn't going to work, he decided a different approach. "You're a frost giant."
You seemed to pause at that. "A... a what?" you asked.
Loki had a silent celebration in his mind when you started to calm down. "A frost giant. From Jotunheim. It's one of the realms Asgard protects," he explained. Behind him, the commotion started to quiet. But that wasn't either you or Loki's focus right now.
"From space?" you asked, and Loki nodded. "How do you know?" It was a silly question, because he's also from space. You thought that would be his answer.
You were shocked to see him close his eyes and his skin turn blue. When they opened, his eyes were red like yours. "Because I'm one, too," he answered, although that was obvious now.
At this point, the crying at stopped except for a few stray tears and the hyperventilating had started to slow down to normal breathing. "How do you... how do you... how are you not blue all the time?" you asked.
"My father. Then my mother taught me spells. Magic," he answered simply, because he didn't really know how he did. It wasn't until he touched the stupid box that he found out the truth. And for some reason, when you touched him the other day, you found out the truth.
By now, the rest of the team was completely silent. The interaction before them was the last thing they expected. Thor, however, had to hold back from boasting about how proud he was for Loki. He settled for a simple smile right now.
"How can I make it go away?" you asked. "I don't know magic."
Loki thought for a moment, about when he first found out and since then. Finally, "It takes practice. You have a non-Jotun form, so try thinking of it. Imagine yourself like that and you should go back."
You followed along with Loki's words, ready to go, until you suddenly became very aware of the others in the room. Loki watched as your eyes flicked from him to behind him and he realized. You were going to be way too freaked out to do this in front of everyone.
Lucky for him, Thor knows how to read the people he cares about. "Out," he said simply, and basically pushed everyone out of the room and into an adjoining on. Once everyone was out (with a lot of protesting), Thor shut the door.
"You can do this," Loki encouraged gently. Your eyes went back to his. The same red. "Here, I will do it first. Then you picture the same thing happening to you." When you nodded, Loki closed his eyes. You watched in awe as his blue skin went back to his pale tone. His eye opened and they were no longer red.
He nodded at you and you felt a surge of confidence. You could do this, you were an Avenger for crying out loud. If you can do anything, you can do this. After breathing in and letting out a shaky breath, you closed your eyes and focused on what you looked like.
You kept your breathing even (albeit slightly shaky) and focused on everything. The color of your skin, the color of your eyes, and they way it all appears on you like it did Loki. When you opened your eyes, you saw Loki's soft smile and looked down to your hands.
They weren't blue anymore.
A week after the incident, you were sitting in your room, reading a book off the bookshelf. You didn't even remember the name of it, to engrossed in the pretty cover. A knock on the door cause your head to lift and for you to put the book down.
"Come in," you called. The door opened and you saw Loki enter. Your first instinct was to get into a defensive stance, but not after the last interaction the two of you had. In fact, you were actually glad he was here.
"Hi," he said softly, standing in front of the now closed door. He was even wearing his usual armor, going down the same path Thor did, wearing some sweats and a t-shirt. "I was hoping to talk to you. About Jotunheim."
You smiled and nodded. "Yeah, absolutely. I was actually hoping you could explain things to me."
Nearly three hours later, Thor dropped by to make sure you were all good. He found you and Loki in deep conversation, both of you blue, neither of you disgusted or ashamed. Instead, you were learning about Frost Giants, what they could do and how you could still be an Avenger at the same time.
Thor smiled at his brother's new friend and wasn't surprised the next morning to hear Loki asking if he might could come with Thor on other visits.
