Avengers Family
I made this imagine by using a TikTok filter that you tap to find out who each person is, so your BFF, your crush, your ex, and your parents. This was the best scenario I could get that made sense. Also, timelines don't exist here. Enjoy...
The Avengers were close. Considering the amount of trust you had to have with each other, it was kind of hard not to be. Missions required an extra level of understanding of each other, and you had to be able to work off of one another pretty easily.
You joined the Avengers when you were freshly twenty-one, when you inherited some powers from your surprisingly alien lineage. That was the first time you had ever known that was a thing in your life, since your parents had died when you were young. After some viral YouTube videos, Natasha Romanoff convinced Director Fury to give you a shot at being an Avenger.
It helped that you could be considered a threat to the public if you were "unsupervised" in your power-using activities.
She was the one to find you in a 600 square foot apartment where you didn't even have your own bathroom. It came as quite a shock that the Avengers wanted you, but you didn't hesitate for a second in saying yes.
Natasha was the one who really helped you out, had you under her wing. Which is funny, considering one of your powers is growing wings.
On one of your first days of training, you then met Bucky Barnes. He saw something in you, the same thing he felt when he was at Hydra, before they made him the Soldier. A scared-ness, despite the cool exterior you had.
Him and Natasha both ended up watching over you, and no one was brave enough to cross the Russians. No one. You grew attached and considered them your parents. Which made conversations weird, despite the fact they weren't your real parents.
"How long have you been seeing Bruce?" Natasha asked one day. She was sitting in the kitchen with Bucky. No one else was there. You though it was weird the kitchen was so empty during lunch time. Now it made sense.
You instantly blushes. "I-I... I have no idea what you're talking about..." Playing dumb was actually dumb.
Bucky made a noise. "You know we know when you're lying, right? Especially because you aren't very good at it."
He was right, so you didn't even attempt to argue. "Fine. Bruce and I have gone on a couple dates over the last month. It's hard with out Avenger schedules."
They nodded. "Why didn't you tell us?" Natasha asked. It sounded like she was almost hurt.
"Does it make you feel better if I say no one else knows?" Neither moved. "Okay, fine. You guys are really protective over me, and Bruce was kind of scared he'd get murdered in his sleep. Even the big guy is freaked out by you two- especially you two together."
This made them smile, and you finally felt yourself relax a bit. Bucky rubbed the back of his neck and a sheepish smile came to his face. "All right, yeah that's fair. And I guess we are kind of protective, huh?"
Natasha nodded. "You can't blame us though," she defended.
You smiled brightly. "Of course not. In fact, I love it. So just... don't freak him out."
They tried not to, but they still each gave Bruce warning looks that basically meant, 'you hurt her, we hurt you.'
About two months after the two of you started dating officially, you sat down with him.
"Bruce, you're amazing. Really. And I really would hate for things to be awkward..."
He smiled. "But you don't really feel the romantic vibes? It's okay, I feel the same way."
You were relieved the two of you were on the same page and split amicably. You were still fantastic teammates and good friends! Natasha and Bucky both offered to "send a message" to him, but you promised them you weren't hurt.
You just realized maybe dating isn't something an Avenger can do.
"How'd you do it?" you asked Tony while spinning on one of the stools in his lab. "I mean, you and Pepper have been going so strong for so long. How does that even work?"
Tony shrugged. "It's not like we've been just peachy the whole time. There were definitely plenty of really rough spots. Once, I called a suit in my sleep and it nearly killed her."
"Oh, shit," you mumbled, stopping your spinning to look at him.
He nodded. "Yeah... it's hard, that's for sure. But... we really love each other, and we knew that. She understood I couldn't just leave Iron Man. We make things work. I try to take time off to just be with her and accept no missions unless the fate of the universe is in the balance."
You nodded along to his words, and let him talk about the ups and the downs they had. It was all very insightful. But it made you come to a conclusion: dating as Avenger either meant you dated another Avenger or someone you knew from before becoming one.
The latter was an option for you, so you realized it meant either someone on the team or possibly even no one. What random person off the street would want to be with an alien like you?
The thoughts kept you annoyed for a while. Natasha and Bucky could feel something was wrong with you, but you refused to answer their questions. They talked between themselves to try and figure it out.
Natasha went to Tony one day to talk to him, and he mentioned the conversation the two of you had. "Do you think it had something to do with Bruce?" Natasha asked.
Tony thought about it, but ultimately shook his head. "Not directly. Their whole thing was mutual and stuff. But maybe it brought her to thinking about dating possibilities? And how hard it is for someone like her- an Avenger who also isn't human."
A few months went by and you kind of got out of the funk you had been in, but not entirely. You still hadn't completely opened up to Bucky or Natasha about it, which made them wonder if something else was nagging at you. You talked to Tony, but not much about that topic.
Then, something shifted. And it was definitely someone's fault.
You and Natasha were hanging out in the common area, enjoying some Star Wars with a bunch of classic movie snacks, like popcorn and both of your favorite candies. As per usual when it came to movie time, you and her were sitting on the couch with your snacks in between you.
"Ooh! Star Wars!" a new voice called out. The both of you looked over and saw someone unfamiliar to you coming in. "Do you guys mind if a join?"
You shook your head. "Not at all!"
"I'll grab you a bowl," Natasha said quickly pausing the movie and getting up. The man, whom she seemed to recognize, thanked her and sat down in a chair next you.
"I don't think I recognize you," you said, sitting up some from your slouched position. "I'm (Y/n) or Fae, I'm a bit newer on the team."
You reached your hand out for a handshake and the man accepted. "Scott Lang, or Ant-Man. I'm actually kind of surprised I haven't met you yet!"
Shrugging, you took your hand back and ate a piece of popcorn. "When I saw 'newer,' I mean not even a year."
Scott nodded. "Well, I don't usually hang around here, I'm usually with my daughter or my security company, so I guess it makes sense."
You lit up when he mentioned his daughter. When Natasha came back out with a bowl and a drink for Scott, she found the two of you talking very animatedly. She felt you and Scott were similar, so she wasn't surprised.
Then the movie was back on. Scott was the perfect movie watcher- didn't talk over it and offered some funny quips occasionally. Natasha didn't fail to notice how each one made you laugh. A couple had you nearly choking on popcorn.
She, of course, didn't say a word to you about it. She knew that if she got involved too early in the process, you'd shut down. So, Natasha simply decided to inform Bucky- like the good adoptive parent she was- and let it happen. Tony even managed to get his hands on the information.
The three of them schemed to find ways to get the two of you together more until either of you took the first jump. At first, it was just Tony having Scott come over so he could look at the shrinking technology. He'd casually throw in your name, which seemed to do the trick.
Natasha even contacted him at one point, seeing if he wanted to practice his sparring. Since Hope was busy with an out of town conference, Scott happily agreed and came down. What she did differently than Tony was not mention you were there and made it feel like more of a meet-cute.
Bucky never got Scott over to the facility, he just did a really good job of getting the two of you in the same room whenever he was there. Team effort!
Then, a mission came in that involved a few different people. You and Scott were among the necessary. Natasha, Bucky, and Tony each thought the other had something to do with it, but it turned out you both were truly needed for your unique abilities.
Your task was simple: keep the skies above clear. Scott's job was also simple: get in, get out.
But as it neared closer to game time, you were getting more and more self conscious. You and Scott hadn't talked about each other's use for the team. Every conversation you had up to this point was about each other- interests and lives, things like that. No Avengers business.
Natasha spotted your growing warring and pulled you to a secluded spot in the Quinjet. "What's going on with you? You've been getting more confident on missions lately."
You nodded. "I have been. I just..." you trailed off and cast a short glance to Scott. "We haven't talked about powers or anything. I'm scared I'll freak him out."
Natasha smiled and pulled you into a gentle hug. "Oh sweetie, I promise, it'll be fine. And you know- if he makes any shitty comment, I'll kill him and hide the body where he'll never be found."
You laughed into her shoulder. "Thank you."
"All right, let's load out!" Steve called. You and Natasha separated and hurried out.
Once you were outside of the Quinjet, you let your wings blossom out from your back and lifted up into the sky. You took out weaponry on watch towers by creating balls of dirt and rock, then threw them, hitting a bullseye every time.
"Hey! I could use a lift! Just need someone to drop me in!" Scott asked over the comms.
You kept fighting until you heard something from Tony, the other man in the sky. You thought he'd be the best option at carrying Scott.
Instead, "(Y/n), can you get him? I'm tied up over here!"
Just because he didn't put the two of you together on the mission didn't mean he wasn't going to meddle.
"Copy, where are you?"
"Next to the overturned tank!"
You scanned the ground and found the and quickly, so you flew down and spotted Scott, who was looking around for you.
"Woah!" he called, a look of child-like wonder on his face. "You have wings?! That's so cool!"
The compliment threw you for a loop and for a second, you forgot where you were and what you were doing. But for only a second, because an explosion shook you back into mission mode.
"Thank you Now, don't take this the wrong way but... how do I carry you?" you asked, You had some enhanced alien strength, but not enough to carry a full-grown adult man.
"Be ready, I'm gonna get really small." You didn't have a chance to question what that meant, because suddenly Scott was gone from view. "Hold out your hand!"
You did, and something jumped up on it. "What the- holy hell, that's what Ant-Man means!"
He laughed. "And I guess I figured out your name, too."
Smiling, you took back off into the sky, flying above the still active weapons so they would keep their focus on Tony and the others. "Well, they wanted to call me Tink or Tinker Bell at first. I said no, I'm not a fan of green."
Scott laughed. "No, no, I like Fae. It suits you and it's super cool and unique," he said. The smile would not be leaving your face soon.
What you were oblivious to is that Scott was feeling the same.
You dropped Scott into the base (literally, he said it was fine but you were still freaked out) and a few minutes later, it was ready to leave and get back to the compound.
Everyone decompressed on the ride back, meaning not a lot was being said. At one point, Scott met your eye and you smiled at him, and hoped you'd get to talk with him more after all this.
Back at the compound, after everyone changed and then after the post-mission debrief, you went back to the common area to grab some snacks from the kitchen.
"Hey, (Y/n)!" You turned and saw Scott hurrying over to you. "I just wanted to ask, uh... do you maybe want to come try this pizza place with me? I see it every time I come to the compound and wondered if you might like to try it..."
The biggest smile known to man came across your face. "I'd be honored."
As you and Scott talked over details, three heads peaked out from behind a corner and watched as their little alien was all grown up.
