Parenthood // Steve Rogers
// Labor //
Here you are, sitting in a hospital bed, in labor. You'd think that you'd be freaking out and Steve would be trying to calm you down, right? Nope, quite the opposite actually. Steve was cool, calm and collected on the way to the hospital. He remembered everything he needed to do before you left the house, he was gentle with you, he even drove responsibly. However, as soon as you were all settled into your bed and he had nothing to keep him occupied, the nerves started to set in.
"What if I drop her?"
"What if I passed on all that asthma and stuff I had before the serum?"
"What if I'm a terrible dad?"
The last one struck a cord in you.
"Steve, come here," you said sweetly. He pulled up a chair next to your bed and leaned toward you. "Our daughter is going to be healthy and happy. Her eyes will have the same sparkle that yours have, that I know. You're not going to drop her, and Steve, look at me."
His eyes slowly raised to meet yours.
"I can't think of a better person to be a father than you. You're going to do fine."
He smiled and kissed your hand softly. All too soon, the pain started for real. I'll just say that the labor and delivery were long and painful. It was not fun for either you or Steve. However, when it was all said and done, it was so worth it. When the nurse placed your daughter in your arms, well, nothing could top that moment. It was as if everything else around you vanished, and the only thing in the world that mattered was your little family, sitting together surrounded by unshakeable joy. You didn't think it was possible for her to look any smaller, but she appeared almost microscopic when in Steve's arms. No one had ever seen him look so happy, not even Bucky, who was there for almost his whole life. After you had your time as a family, the rest of the team came in to meet the newest avenger.
"So, what's her name?" Tony asked.
"Meet Maya Natalia Rogers," you beamed.
"Yes," Natasha whispered while fist pumping.
"Congrats," Bucky grinned, slapping Steve on the shoulder.
"We shall test if she is worthy!" Thor bellowed.
"Thor NO!"

You and Steve sat at the dining table waiting for Maya to get home from school. You were going to go pick her up from the bus stop, but Peter insisted on getting her instead. They had become pretty close since she was born, and he had proven to be a surprisingly good baby sitter. Steve sipped some coffee and read the newspaper (like the old man he is), and you were looking at Instagram. Suddenly the door flew open to reveal a very excited Maya and an apprehensive Peter.
"Mommy, Daddy! I got a boyfriend!" she exclaimed. Steve immediately choked on his coffee.
"Excuse me?!" Steve demanded.
"I had nothing to do with this!" Peter yelled, slamming the door and running down the street as fast as he could.
"What was that about having a boyfriend, Maya?" he asked in a warning tone.
"His name is Alex! He asked me to be his girlfriend. I don't know what it means, but I'm a girl and I want to be his friend, so I said yes!" she explained happily. You instantly began laughing uncontrollably. Steve still seemed upset. "What's wrong daddy?"
"I don't want you to be anyone's girlfriend until you're forty-five," he grumbled. Her face fell at those words.
"But why? I like having new friends. I wanna be everyone's girlfriend!" she whined. He choked again, this time on air.
"Oh, Maya," you laughed again. "Let's give your dad a minute to calm down. Come with me."
You lead her to her room so you could explain that there's a bit of a difference between being a friend and a girlfriend. As soon as she learned what a girlfriend actually is, she stuck her tongue out and declared that she would never, ever kiss a boy. You just rolled your eyes. After you talked she decided that she wanted to draw, so you left to go make sure Steve was still breathing. You found him in the same place you left him, staring straight ahead, motionless.
"Steve. Steve? Anyone home?" you asked, waving your hand in front of his face.
"I think I just saw my life flash before my eyes," he mumbled.
"Always so dramatic," you sighed. "I'd hate to see your reaction when she gets a real boyfriend."
"That's never going to happen," he blurted.
"Keep telling yourself that, Spangles."

For once you had plans, and today you had been invited to have a spa day with Natasha, Wanda and Maria. Someone had to stay home to keep Maya company, (and make sure she didn't get into trouble), so Steve stayed home with her.
"Oh you are in SO much trouble young lady! You're grounded!" Steve yelled.
"Seriously dad? Chill out. It's not like I was out doing drugs or something," she scoffed.
"No, you did something far worse," he groaned.
"If you keep yelling at me I'm gonna do it again," Maya challenged.
"You wouldn't dare..." he warned lowly.
"Are you sure about that, dad?" she smirked. Steve looked back to the TV screen to see a turtle shell smack into his cart, sending him flying off the side of Rainbow Road. Looking to the other side of the screen, he watched as Maya crossed the finish line, winning the round.
"Unbelievable," he sighed, leaning back into the couch.
"It's your fault for choosing Bowser, dad," she giggled.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," he smiled.
"I'll be right back, I'm going to the bathroom," she said. He nodded and she was off to the bathroom. He picked up his remote and started to choose the next course on Mario Kart.
"AAAAAAH!" Maya screamed. Steve flew off the couch and was at the bathroom door in less than a second.
"What's wrong?!" he yelled.
"I- uh, I-" she stuttered.
"You what?!" he demanded, his fear making him forget about his tone of voice. She immediately started crying. "Honey, what's wrong?"
"I-I'm bleeding!" she cried. As soon as those words left her mouth he busted through the door, and his face instantly paled at the sight before him. Her pants were on the floor with a giant red stain covering them, and the reality of the situation dawned on poor Steve. "Dad! Get out!"
"Uh... hold on! I got this!" he declared. He ripped the cabinet open and started digging through to find what he was looking for. Finally he spotted the desired item.
"Here! I think your mom uses these," he blurted, thrusting a tampon toward her.
"Dad I can't use that!" she yelled.
"Uh, ok! I'll find something else!" he replied hastily, digging through the cupboard more.
"Just get out!" she demanded. Steve was more than willing to leave the bathroom at that point. He ran out and slammed the door behind him, still hearing the sobs from the bathroom. He made a b-line for his phone, which he left on the coffee table. He noticed a red mark on the couch cushion, but he decided to ignore it for now. He fumbled to find your contact, and once he reached it he slammed the call button. Only about four rings went by, but every second felt like an eternity to Steve.
"Hello?" you answered.
"Y/N! Maya's bleeding!" he replied hurriedly.
"What?!"
"She, uh..." he started to explain, but he couldn't bring himself to say the word 'period'. Not when he was talking about his little girl. Suddenly, he remembered the name that you always use for your period. "She has... shark week."
As soon as you heard those words you burst into laughter. "Honey, she has her period. It's not the end of the world. I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
"Oh thank goodness," he sighed exasperatedly. "I'll see you soon."
With that he hung up and tossed his phone to the side. He then started pacing back and forth across the living room. Every second felt like an hour, but soon you walked through the front door and he ran to you.
"What do we do?" he asked. You laughed lightly at him.
"I'll take care of Maya," you assured him. "Judging by the fact that Mario Kart is on the TV, I'm guessing there's a stain wherever she was sitting. Correct?"
He nodded.
"Take the cover off the couch cushion and put it in some cold water in our bathtub," you ordered. He nodded again and set off to fulfill his task.
You went into the bathroom to help Maya clean up, and then you had to help her calm down and explain that everything was going to be fine. All in all, it took you about an hour to break away. When you left her bedroom, you found Steve sitting on the couch, leaning forward with his face in his clasped hands. You couldn't help but smile at how concerned he looked.
"Steve, are you ok?" you inquired. He looked up at you with worry etched into his forehead.
"Is Maya ok?" he countered. You giggled at his selflessness.
"She's fine," you answered, walking over and sitting on his lap. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer.
"So... is she like... a woman now?" he shuddered.
"No, Steve," you chuckled. "Getting your period doesn't necessarily make you a woman. Don't worry, she's still your little girl."
"Thank goodness," he sighed. "I'm so glad you came home. I had no idea what to do. I tried to give her one of your tampon things, but she just yelled at me."
"Oh honey," you face palmed. "You have so much to learn."
"I really do," he admitted with a light hearted smile.
"I love you Steve Rogers," you grinned, messing up his hair.
"And I, you," he replied, hugging you closer.
*Bonus Mini-Imagine*
