Loki strides along the path of the park near your house, determined to organize his thoughts. His eyes are on the clipped grass under him and his eyebrows are furrowed.
What does he say to someone who stole his heart? Hey, you puny mortal, give back my heart. That definitely won't do.
He looks up, seeing that the skies are blue and it's a beautiful day out. Looking around, he spots a man selling balloons and decides to buy some in an attempt to woo you. It's not like he really needs to, but hey, let him do his thing.
He doesn't know how things work on Earth. He's just winging it and hopes for the best.
"Um, three balloons, please," he says to the man, surprisingly politely, and the man proceeds to give him the balloons.
He pays for it and makes sure that his grip on the strings are tight enough. "Thank you," he mutters quickly, before running off to the nearest florist.
When he gets there, the place was packed with people and their significant others, the workers frantically running around the shop in order to serve them quickly.
This place reminds him of where you first met.
It was in an art museum.
He was looking at the artworks displayed on the walls, completely focused before you came in and practically slammed into him.
You looked up at him, scared. You looked into his eyes to see if he was mad, but oh boy, were they beautiful. You got lost in them immediately, and he broke the trance with a clear of his throat.
"Oh, sorry! I should be going," you said nervously, walking off.
"Mortal," he called out for you.
You stopped, confused. "Were you talking to me?"
"Yes. I'm afraid, you have to repay me after what you've done," he told you with absolutely no emotion written on his face.
You were taken aback. Unable to speak, you started to stutter. Knowing that you just completely made a fool of yourself in front of this unbelievably gorgeous man in front of you, you blushed.
"For the consequences, you'll have to let me take you out on a date and let me pay for the bill."
And that was it. That was the start of the beautiful relationship you both have had for the past three years.
To be fair, three years isn't even that long of a time for Loki, since he can live to be thousands of years old. This might as well just be a long weekend for him, but he cherishes every single second he spends with you.
"That bouquet with the three different colors. Are those roses?" He points to the fresh flowers behind the counter.
The shop assistant replies with a quick nod and watches Loki pull out a fifty dollar bill and put it on the counter.
"I'll take one of that, please," he says, smiling.
He has no idea what he's doing, or what he's even supposed to do. What the hell are you supposed to do on an anniversary?
He does know though, that he should be nice to people. Not that he should, really, but he thinks that that way, he'll be more understanding to your kind rather than just calling everyone puny mortals.
"That'll be twenty dollars, sir. Here's your change," the person behind the cashier says, giving him his change.
He mutters a short thank you and heads to your house.
Knocking on your door, he sighs. He still doesn't know what to do.
You open the door, and it's as if he saw an angel. His eyes went wide and a smirk makes it's way to his face.
"You look stunning, love," he says to you cooly.
You blush before taking a moment to regain your composure. "Who are these for?" you ask, motioning to the things in his hands.
"These... are for you, actually. I figured that you deserve something nice for our third anniversary," he says, and you can see him getting nervous.
"You remembered!" you exclaim, grinning. "I- sorry, I mean, I didn't think you'd remember, but I-"
He presses a soft kiss to your lips, cutting you off. He feels you melt into the kiss, and somehow feels himself doing the same thing. He feels your hand cupping his cheek and bringing him closer.
The kiss feels a little bit too short, but there's really never a time where his kisses are enough.
He gives you the flowers and the balloons once you pull away. "These, uh... remind me of our first and second anniversary," he says sheepishly. "We went to Disneyland for our first anniversary and we visited the museum which had flowers in it for our second," he reminds you with a smile.
He sees you looking down at your feet, knowing that you can't remember.
"Hey, it's okay... I know you'll remember soon," he assures you, kissing your forehead.
"I'm sorry I can't remember," you apologize, tears brimming your eyes.
You've been trying so hard to get your memory back after an accident that happened just about a month ago, and you can't help but feel hopeless.
"I understand, love. But hey, at least you remember today," he says, smiling proudly. "Your brain just needs time to... what do you guys call it... reboot?" he asks, more to himself, really. "Yeah, reboot. I'm pretty sure that's the right word," he continues, placing a hand on your cheek and caressing it with his thumb gently.
You stay quiet, looking into his eyes. Those eyes remind you of home and all the good things in life. There something else, you're sure, but you can't exactly put a finger on it. Something to do with canvases, for some reason.
"I have something else for you." He pulls out a book, similar to the one Ellie gave Carl in up, and puts it in your hands.
You open it and are greeted by countless of photos, each one adorning the pages of the book. There was one of you and Loki smiling into the camera, and another one with you smiling and Loki looking at you lovingly.
You feel a tear slipping out of you eye, then another, and then you were crying into your boyfriend's chest.
"They're tears of joy, I promise," you add with a slight laugh as you sniffle. "I love you so much."
"I love you, too," he replies, pulling you closer to him as he breathes in the scent of your hair. "So much, darling. You have no idea," he mumbles, running a hand through your hair. "Back then, I didn't even know what loving someone was like," he says. "I didn't know what it's like to have this warm feeling in my heart that I always do now because I have you."
"You can physically feel the warmth?" you ask awkwardly, not knowing what to say to what he just confessed.
He takes it as you coming back to him, for some reason. He knows you've always been awkward, and he sees that you being awkward again after the accident as a good thing.
He chuckles. "Yes, love. I can actually feel it. You might have forgotten, but I'm a frost giant."
"Oh right," you say sheepishly, burying your face into the crook of his neck. "Sorry."
"Don't be. I'm Asgardian anyway," he pauses, taking a deep breath. "I just... I never would've thought that I'd fall in love at all."
"I never thought that either, to be honest," you reply. "But I'm so in love with you," you say. "You know that, right?"
"You've mentioned it probably a couple of hundred times," he says jokingly. "But I'll never get tired of hearing you say that."
"I should say it more often then."
"And just make me melt in front of everyone?" he thinks about it for a moment. "Actually, that'll be fine. They'll know how much I love you, then."
"Dear God, I never thought you'd be this sappy," you tease him. "Not that I'm not sappy, but that's against the point."
"We can just be sappy together, nothing wrong with that."
"You're right," you say, smiling up at him. "Will you wait for me while I try to remember?" you ask, hopeful.
He smiles softly, pressing a kiss you your lips. "I'll wait forever if I have to."
