Reason to travel to the past-
They want to prevent a tragedy which resulted in the deaths of Pepper, Jane, Clint, Bruce, Loki, Maria and Wanda. The loss struck them hard and they knew that that the cause of their deaths traveled to the past, so did they. They don't want their loved ones gone in the past because then Katherine, Danyssa, Flora, Belle, Brianna, Nathan, Lilith, Marcus, Winry and Winter wouldn't be born and the ones from the future will disappear.
