Chapter 2: New Circumstances

POV: Y/n

The Fire Nation troops had taken me into a separate room from Aang, and the man with the scar had interrogated me to no avail so he decided to change to Aang. After he left the room, I felt the air go still and started to feel heavy. Looking around I saw that the flames were still, almost frozen, as a man in strange clothes stood in the doorway looking at a weird object in his hand. "Well." The man said as he walked closer to me, "It seems as if you've gotten yourself into a predicament. I've already helped you once, and I may do so again." "How have you helped me?" I asked trying to move the little bit of air around me, "When you were in the ice, I was the one to keep you awake. I am partially responsible for you being as strong as you are." "Why?" I asked, stretching towards him, "Why are you doing this?" "Because I'm going to need your help." He said as he grabbed my chin. "And you will help us as an equalizer for my help." "Us?" I asked as the man disappeared.

"What?" I asked as the air and flames sprung back to life. "What did you do Avatar?" one of the guards asked as he pointed his spear at me. "Let me speak with him." came an elderly voice as the guards stood immediately at attention. "YES GENERAL IROH SIR!" they both shouted as an older gentleman walked in. "Could you please leave me to him?" the man asked in a kind voice, as the guards saluted and left the room, closing the door behind them. "Go ahead," The elder man said as he sat down at a table and grabbed a mug, "you may unshackle yourself, I can sense the power inside you." "I see you're wiser than the scared fellow." I said as I used Air Bending to move the tumblers in the locks, freeing me as I landed softly on the ground. "And I'm assuming you are a much kinder individual?" "I can be. Would you like some tea?" He asked as he grabbed a second mug and poured water in with some leaves inside. "Yes please." I said taking a sip of the cold drink, tasting the leaves separately from the water. "Hmmm, it hasn't boiled." I said as I guided the flames from the torches around my under mug as I held it up.

"I see." The man said, "You are not the Avatar. My name is Iroh, and you are?" "I am Y/n," I answered, "and I guess I can't make you believe that I am the Avatar." "No." Iroh responded as he sipped his tea, "But I doubt my nephew would let you leave as an airbender." "Well, there goes that idea." I said as I continued my drink. "So am I slated to remain as a prisoner?" "For the time being, yes." Iroh said as he set down his mug, "Unless you can tell me who and or where the Avatar is." "I unfortunately do not know who the Avatar is, nor where this person is, but I know he came from my Temple." "Well, it seems we are at an impasse then." Iroh said with a sigh, "I had hoped to come to a peaceful solution. My nephew, Zuko, is a much more aggressive negotiator than I. I simply pray that he does not be too forceful." "May I ask a question?" I asked. "You have." Iroh said with a smirk, "But you may. What is it?" "What time of day is it?" I sheepishly asked, "I am a bit tired, and it is difficult to sleep with my arms above my head." "It is somewhere between late in the afternoon, to very early in the evening." Iroh answered, "I will have guards wait outside so you may rest in a chair or make use of the table here as a bed. If I could give you a bed, I would." "Thank you sir." I said with a slight bow. Iroh got up and walked towards the door, stopping at my staff. "Impressive craftsmanship," He said as he left the door. "Sleep well."

As I was resting in a chair I worked on making a simple safety net with my air bending, with me finding a person running frantically into my room. "Yn, we need to leave, quickly!" Aang said frantically, "Alright, lets go." I said using Air Bending to grab my staff before we ran out into the open air as evening fell. "Commander!" A lookout said as he rang a bell, "The Nomads have escaped!" "Aang, we need to leave!" I shouted as I moved what little air was in the water up towards the top of the ship. "Yeah, we should." Aang said as he created a small twister around us. As we flew into the air, I sent a torrent of water onto the ship in an attempt to quench the flames that coated the inside and ran the engines. Aang and I dodged the fireballs thrown at us as Zuko, the commander, yelled at us and his men.

"We should head back to the village." I said as we glided through the cold air. "Not only is that where Appa is, but we may be able to form a defensive wall. You're the Avatar, you should be defending these people." "I know." Aang said, "I just don't know if I'm ready." I don't know if I'm ready to tell you about our people. I thought as we made it closer to the island. "Honestly, I don't think we are." I reluctantly said. "The Fire Nation has gone on an offensive since we went to sleep. They need to be stopped, or the world may be in danger." "Y/n, we're 12. We aren't ready to save the world." Aang said as the village came into view. "When we will be, it'll be too late." I responded by landing in the center of town. "What took you so long?" Gran Gran said in a calm manner, "Did the Fire Nation leave?" "Not exactly," I responded, "They've been stalled for a bit, but not for long." "We should plan a counter attack." Sokka said as he readied his weapons. "That's my plan, kind of." I said as Aang took a deep breath. "I thought you Air Nomads were pacifists?" Katara said in disbelief, "We are." Aang replied, "But this is a defensive measure." I said with a tight breath, "And I don't plan on, you know..." "That's good." Aang said under his breath.

After an hour or so of readying the defenses of the village the damaged battleship broke through one of the walls before unleashing a volley of fire attacks. I used the air around us to make a sort of shield to defend the town before swapping to the air under the snow around us to make a small blizzard to hide ourselves from the attacking troops. "COME OUT AVATAR!" Zuko shouted as a mass of fire illuminated part of the snow. "Or the old hag gets it!" I dropped the veil of snow as I saw Gran Gran fall to the ground as flames were directed at me. "NO!" Aang and I, along with other natives of the Water Tribe shouted in unison.

POV: Katara

When Gran Gran fell, I watched Aang and Y/n change. Aang's marking started to glow as the four elements began to circle around him and with Y/n, the flames and wind around him went violent as water seeped through the ice, with the battleship rising high into the sky before the flames from both of them were sent towards the Fire Nation troops as some of them fled into the freezing ocean. Gran Gran made a weak cough as Aang landing with the elemental circles vanished and Y/n fell unconscious. "Is everyone alright?" Gran Gran asked as she slowly sat up. "Those Fire Nation goonies didn't injure anyone did they?" "No, Y/n focused on hiding everyone until you fell." Aang responded, "Then I entered the Avatar state. Which I can't control." "So that makes you the Avatar?" Sokka asked as I helped Gran Gran up, "Yes, I am the Avatar." Aang responded. "Then what does your brother do?" I asked, "I swear he was fire and water bending." "I don't know, I've never seen him do it before." Aang answered, "It kind of scares me to think of what happens if he uses that." "He must not know about it then." Gran Gran said, "I'd be cautious telling him about it. You both need training. Head to the Northern Water Tribe, there will be a teacher for you and Katara there." "Uhhhg..." Y/n groaned as he slowly sat up, "What happened?" "Aang got rid of the Fire Nation, and you helped him." Gran Gran answered, "And you two Air Benders need to head to the Northern Tribe for training." "Then let's get going." Aang said as I ran to pack a bag.

So, I apologize for this taking so long, I had many things come up that took my time. The way I'm going to work this series is I'm going to make small skits for the first season [as I have not watched the first season] and essentially skip to the second when they meet Toph. If y'all want me to write for the first season I will work on watching the show on my free time during college.
