Chapter 1: Awakening
Note: this book is inspired by Blind Love by Puggles_worth1
POV: ???
I remember falling as the lightning cracked across the sky. I felt the water catch and cover me in a heavy embrace as I sank into the water before a strong cold sensation covered my body. It couldn’t see. I couldn’t open my eyes. I felt weightless, asif I were flying and falling at the same time. I needed to find my brother, no matter the cost. Without any other options, I focused on bending the air around me. I couldn’t find any to move, but I could see that we were under the water as there was no air around us as animals swam by us. I stayed in this state for an unknown amount of time. It felt like eons or centuries. The only thing I had to keep me sane was practicing my bending, and perfect my mastered technique of Pseudo-bending, moving some of the animals around us.
Eventually I felt a disturbance in the air as a large quantity emerged around us and I saw two humanoids appear near us. I heard the world around me crack as I felt the light hit on my body. I then fell as the sounds of air rushing in as I felt myself fall to the ground, being a chunk of ice. “Light!” I gasped as I opened my eyes for the first time, seeing the icey landscape around usa. “Are you okay?” asked a feminine voice as Aang helped me up. “Yes, I am.” I responded as we stepped in front of her and the male who had drawn a club in defence. “Careful Katara,” He said, “they may be Fire Nation spies.” “Because a member of the Fire Nation would be wearing an Air Nomad gi.” I said as Aang nudged my shoulder. “Sokka!” the girl said as she punched him in the shoulder. “Anyway, who are you two?” “I’m Aang.” my older brother said before pointing to me, “and this is Y/n, my little brother.” “And the Sky Bison is Appa,” I added, “he belongs to both of us, but prefers Aang.” “What’s a Sky Bison?” The guy asked with a doubtful yet sarcastic tone. "This little fella." I said as Appa stepped out of the crater we were in. "So who are you?" Aang asked as he climbed on Appa's back. "I'm Sokka." The male cautiously said, "And that's Katara, my flying sister." "You guys want a ride?" I asked as Katara punched her brother. "Yeah," Aang added as he reached out his hand, "let's take you two home. The current looks bad." "Thank you." Katara said as she climbed on. "Should we trust them?" Sokka asked as he clenched his weapon. "They may be spies for the fire nation." "Trust me, we're not." I said as I used my Air Bending to lift him up onto Appa from underneath.
Halfway through the flight, I had to help Appa fly through the air since we were all weakened from our fall, and Sokka losing his lunch, Katara spoke up. "So the Avatar was an Airbender." She said looking at me and Aang, "Did you two know him?" Aang looked at me with some panic in his eyes, "Well, we knew him," I responded, "He came from our Temple, but we were not allowed to communicate with him." "Why not?" Katara asked, "His days were full of training." Aang silently said. "Oh." She said as we saw smoke rising in the distance. "Well, we're here! I'll take you to Gran Gran." "Okay." Me and Aang said in unison as the sun started to set.
When we arrived at a makeshift port we were led to an older woman tending a fire. "Glad you all could make it by nightfall." She said as Appa fell on the ground and slept. "Sorry Ma'am." I said as Aang started to doze off, "These young people found my brother and I in some ice." "So that's how you survived." She muttered. "Well, the four of you should get some rest." "Thank you Ma'am," I said, "but I would like to train for a bit after I lay my brother down." "Young man, please call me Gran Gran." Gran Gran said as she pointed to a hut. "You may rest in there young man." "Thank you Gran Gran." I said with a bow, "I'll be back in a moment"
After I set Aang in a bed in the hut, I walked back outside and sat down by the fire across from Gran Gran. "I can't thank you enough for helping us Gran Gran." "It's nothing young man." Gran Gran said as she pulled a fish off the fire. "You want some fish?" "Please." I said, "I'm usually a vegetarian but I br a chooser if I haven't eaten in however long my brother and I were in the ice." "How long do you think you were in there?" Gran Gran asked as she handed me the fish. "I couldn't tell you." I answered taking a bite from the fish, enjoying the alien flavor, "What year is it?" "99AG." Gran Gran responded grabbing herself a fish. "AG?" I asked. "I haven't heard of that. What does it mean?" "You asked young man." Gran Gran said reluctantly, "I was told it was started after the Genocide of the Air Nomads." "What?" I asked as I dropped my fish. "Why?" "Fire Lord Sozin wanted to kill the Avatar before he gained power." Gran Gran said as I started to tear up. "I'm sorry you had to find out this way." I can't describe the feeling that went over me. I was sad, but full of rage. The fire, while not leaving its pit, it rose up to an impressive height as if it were licking the heavens and the ice started to crack as water seeped through. The cold water snapped me from my state as everything calmed down and I blacked out.
The next thing I know, the sun was shining in my eyes. As I sat up I realized that I was alone. "Must've overslept." I said as I heard screams coming from outside. Running out I saw a group or men in armor with the symbol of the Fire Nation sending flames towards the children outside. Looking again I saw Aang rushing in from behind the soldiers, too slow to stop the fire. Using my mastery of Air Bending, I moved the air below the flames rising it to avoid the children as I stepped beside them. I watched as Aang knocked the soldiers down. "Why are you attacking these people?" Aang asked as another stepped out from on the ship. "We saw a beam of light as well as a strong flame and seismic activity last night." Said the leader who had a burn mark covering his left eye. "We are here for the Avatar. And we won't stop until we catch him." "Stop attacking these people and I'll go with you." Aang said as I noticed a campfire to my left. "Maybe." The man said as he created two flame knives and charged at Aang. Spinning my staff I created a small breeze that I turned into a tempestuous gale that I added the flames from the campfire by moving the air around the flames towards my staff before using it to knock the soldiers into the water. "Stand down and we will go with you." "Then take them." the scared man said as Aang and I walked onto their metal ship as Katara cried out to stop us.
Alright, I know this is odd and off from the original. Well to answer that, I'm writing this from memory and I haven't watched the episode in a while. I'll continue the series later and work on chapter 2, but currently I'm working on a project [well two, ones a book] that I want to get close to finishing before I go on vacation.
Either way, God bless y'all and good luck with school and life. Go out and do some good. I'll see y'all next time.
