The Tournament Heats Up!

With the new bracket set revealed, the quarter finals immediately begin with an interesting fight. Ojiro Mashirao vs Hagakure Toru, earth versus air for this fight. While he's seen duels between an airbender and earthbender in pro bending matches, he hasn't gotten to see a full fledged battle between them. Reading the bracket, his fight against Iida is supposed to be afterwards with Momo vs Kirishima and then Bakugou vs Todoroki to end the quarterfinals. "Trying to fight an airbender with earthbending isn't exactly easy, but it's kind of the same for airbending as well." Izuku comments as the two walk up into the ring, Hagakure still wearing the quirk canceling bracelets from her battle with Mina. "I had to fight Midnight with earthbending a little while after I started working with Miruko and Aizawa. Airbenders are slippery, I only managed to land attacks with sand bending."

"With how nimble we have to be, I can see how it's a problem." Uraraka comments as she takes a bite from a mochi bun. "What about that seismic sense thingy that earthbenders can use?"

"Even then it's difficult to use against an airbender, because of how light footed we are when airbending there's hardly any vibrations to keep track of." Izuku adds, "I've been training to develop seismic sense, and I can feel a good five or so meters from me at max but using it against airbenders is damn near impossible."

"Our elements are natural opposites, so they basically have an answer to everything the other can throw at them. Airbending is basically useless when on the offensive versus an earthbender. All I'd need to do is just lift a wall a foot thick and it basically just cancels out the attack. Airbending, outside of asphyxiation which is a lethal technique and is banned in several countries like bloodbending is, doesn't have any offensive subtypes. Flight is so rare that the pro hero Paragon was the first airbender to have true flight since Zaheer. Lavabending has become a bit more common since there's a lot more earthbenders nowadays, but it's also extremely deadly. I've seen Ojiro use metal bending but I don't think he can lavabend. Red Riot, Miruko, All Might, and I are the only ones I've seen." Kirishima says, causing Izuku to mock offense to this.

"What am I? Chopped Platypus bear liver?" He asks feigning offense being left out, but he cracks up, unable to hold the act for very long. "I'm just messing with you, but I'm pretty sure I'm the exception to that rule since Earhbender avatars and Firebender avatars have all been able to Lava/Magma bend."

"That being said, both of them will have to think outside of the box for this fight." Momo says before reclining the chair back slightly and rests her arms on her stomach waiting for the fight to begin. "If I was Ojiro, I'd destroy the entire ring and only leave the spot where I'm standing."

"Let's get this party started! This is the first match of the quarterfinals everyone!~ Both of our fighters are in the 1-A hero course and with that being said, Hagakure, Quirk or Bending?" Midnight asks.

"Bending." The watermelon haired woman says before shifting her legs outwards, raising her rear hand above her head, tilting her body forwards and extending an arm over her forward leg as she settles into a squat.

"Ojiro?" Midnight asks, turning her attention to face him.

"Bending." Ojiro says before turning to Midnight. "Metalbending."

"Well this is an interesting development! One of our combatants has chosen to use a subset of bending to face down his nimble opponent." Present Mic declares as a collective chorus of "Oohs" echo through the crowd. "Ojiro, since you are choosing to use metal bending, you will be provided with the cable pack support item and a small amount of meteorite to use. Any use of earthbending not pertaining to the metal at your disposal will result in disqualification. Do you accept these rules?"

"Yes." Ojiro responds, "Say, Hagakure. Why don't we have a bit of a wager." He says as Midnight walks over to the announcer's tower to retrieve the cable pack as a trap door on the field opens up and a decent sized chunk of meteorite raises up from the floor into the middle of the ring.

"What's that?" She asks as Ojiro sinks into a boxer's stance, with one hand low at stomach level and his backhand high cupping his chin.

"If I win, you owe me a date." He says confidently which causes a slight blush to run across Toru's face when he says this. "If I lose, I'll do whatever you say for a whole month. Sounds fair?" He asks.

"Deal." Toru says as she strengthens her resolve to win this match.

"Looks like more than just the championship title is on the line here! With that being said, let the Round of Eight begin!" Midnight declares, causing Vlad King at the top of the stadium to bang the gong once more.

The moment the match begins, Toru immediately sweeps her high arm down and then upwards as if doing a massive uppercut punch to try to launch Ojiro out of the ring. On his end, Ojiro immediately thrusts his arms forwards, firing the cables from his back and anchoring himself into the concrete to avoid Toru's first attack. The air force created by her bending pulls tension on the wires but Ojiro uses this to his advantage. He allows himself to get some slack on the lines, being pushed back slightly. Thrusting his arms outwards, he launches himself forwards the second the winds die down, flying straight into the meteorite in the center of the ring. He rears back and headbuts the metal space rock causing it to almost liquify before he bends it so it encases his entire body. Toru watches as the metal acts almost like liquid as he coats himself in the meteoric iron. He punches his fist down onto the concrete causing the metal to crack under the weight before he lifts his head up to face Toru, two rectangular eye holes at an angle forming an imposing visage, and a rectangular hole where his mouth should be. Suddenly over the intercoms, the audience hears spaced out kicks of a bass drum before a declining in pitch strum of a guitar. Beneath the iron mask, Ojiro grins hearing the song that Present Mic accidentally started playing when he stood up to see what Ojiro had done. "I am Iiiiiron Mmmman." Ojiro says in perfect synchronicity with the song.

"Holy shit that's awesome." Kyoka says, now standing up in the stands and leaning over the edge of the railing to get a better look at Ojiro's meteoric armor. "Yaomomo, when we spar again I gotta try that."

"Why didn't you want to participate in the tournament?" Momo asks.

"I kinda hurt my shoulder during the fight with Deku's team so I withdrew and Ojiro took my place instead." She comments. "Hit the railing before going over the edge, didn't have enough time to metal bend it to cushion the blow."

In the ring, Toru is left frightened by the imposing metal visage of Ojiro. The iron mask over his face only shows his green eyes beneath it but the meteoric armor has made him much taller and bulkier, even covering his entire tail. "Woah... that's kinda hot." She says before having to leap into the air in order to evade a cable attack from Ojiro who is surprisingly mobile in the suit of armor. The metal moves as if it's his own skin, from the armor covering his hands, a large bo staff is created before he stabs it into the ground and backs away from it. "You'll need it." Ojiro says causing Toru to dart forwards and snatch the staff before twirling it around herself and settling into her a new stance with the staff directed forwards. Accepting the challenge, Ojiro stops forwards in the armor causing Toru to spin and slash towards him with the staff creating a massive gust of wind trying to throw him from the ring, but even with all her might, she isn't able to even make him budge.

Ojiro jabs his right hand forwards, launching small bits of the meteoric iron from his suit towards Toru. She immediately begins spinning the bo staff and deflecting the slabs of metal being thrown towards her. As one connects with the staff she's holding, it immediately latches onto the end of the staff. The extra weight on one side of the weapon distracts Toru for a moment causing her to look right at it but that moment is all Ojiro needs to launch another piece of metal at her. By the time Hagakure looks up from the staff, she's hit in the face by the bit of metal that latches itself over her eyes and around the back of her head like a blind fold. Instead of molding the staff he had created for her around her body, Ojiro opts to instead, create three floating liquid balls of meteorite above his head before throwing a series of open palmed finger strikes towards Hagakure trying to bind up her other limbs.

Hagakure tries desperately to get the metal off of her head so she can get back into the fight but she feels the air around her change. Instinctively she dodges to the side, dipping her left shoulder back and throwing her hand to the side, blowing a gust of air towards the ball of meteorite that he had thrown. A fraction of a second later, she feels another atmospheric disturbance and ducks right this time now almost leaning completely backwards. Almost like a scene out of the matrix, Toru while blind folded dodges ball after ball of meteorite that Ojiro is firing at her from the orbs he's levitating over head. What she doesn't sense however, is the meteoric armor around Ojiro is expanding from his feet like water and getting closer and closer to her. Due to her backward leaning position, she has to extend a hand to press down on the ground in order to keep herself balanced. She expects to have her fingers touch the hot concrete of the ring that had been baking in the sun all morning but instead she feels something completely alien. Liquid metal is a completely alien feeling, reminiscent of other liquids but the metallic sensation on her skin is strange. Though no one can see it, her eyes widen from beneath the blind fold as she realizes what she's touching. Caught in a backbend, Ojiro uses the liquid metal to swallow her legs and arms all the way up to her knees and elbows rendering the airbender immobile. "Hagakure is imobile, Ojiro progresses to the Semifinals!"

"Guess I owe you that date huh?" Hagakure asks as Ojiro pulls the meteorite away from her body before condensing it back into the middle of the ring. "A deals a deal." She says as she feels the metal blindfold loosen and she's able to remove it from over her eyes.

"Didn't think Present Mic would accidentally hit the music track, but I couldn't resist saying that line. It's one of my favorite songs." Ojiro says before the two exit the ring together planning on where to go on their first date.

"That's the end of the first match! Will Tenya Iida and Izuku Midoriya come down to the ring please?" Midnight declares over the intercom causing both of them to get up from the stands. While Iida has to take the long way, Izuku merely jumps down to the field using his airbending to slow his descent. A few short moments later, Iida arrives to the other end of the field before walking over to the podium rather than the arena. Izuku watches in a confused manner for a moment as Iida speaks with Midnight, reading sadness on his friend's face. He sees Midnight nod in understanding. "My apologies folks, Iida has elected to withdraw from the tournament due to a family emergency. Midoriya Izuku progresses to the Semi Finals." This action left Izuku, and basically everyone in the entire stadium was shocked as to why the sudden change. As Iida is walking away from the field, Izuku runs up to speak with him.

"You ok dude? What happened?" He asks, placing a hand on Iida's shoulder. The blue haired man just shakes the arm away and continues to try to walk forwards, that is until Izuku swipes his foot on the ground causing Iida to suddenly do a 180 to face him. "Tenya. You can tell me what's wrong, I can help you." The blue haired man looks away from his friend for a moment, trying to find the words to say.

"I don't need help. My brother does." Iida finally spits out, this causes Izuku to arch an eyebrow at this statement. "He was attacked by Stain, The Hero Killer. He's in Tokyo Heroes' Rejuvenation facility right now, that's all I know." Iida says before attempting to walk away again.

"Hold on, Tenya. They've got some of the best healers in the world there and even have access to small amounts of Spirit Oasis water. Your brother is going to be fine, and he wouldn't want you to have to sit here and worry about him would he?" Izuku asks.

"He wouldn't, but I need to leave... and if you want to help me with this." He says before turning away from Izuku. "Then I want you to kill Stain" This statement leaves Izuku stunned as Iida walks away. All Izuku can do is look on in shock at what the normally polite, punctual and proper man had just said.

"Revenge isn't the answer, Tenya." Izuku says as Iida gets to the top of the stairs. "What will killing Stain accomplish?"

"Justice. For everyone he murdered." Iida responds coldly before turning the corner and ending the conversation.

Izuku silently walks back up to the stands after this, pondering on what he should do if he does actually end up fighting the hero killer. Stain himself is an enigma, people who survived encounters with him said it was as if he could bloodbend and metal bend but that's the one thing that always stayed the same amongst the survivors. It's impossible for him to be a bloodbender, but from what the survivors have said, he was able to take control of their bodies through his bending. Each of the elements play some role in the human body. Water in the blood, electricity in the nerves, air in the lungs and metal. Metal was in everything in the human body, from calcium in bones to iron in the bloodstream. Each bending style had some way to manipulate a person's body and his past lives have used it on a few occasions. Avatar Kyoshi used bloodbending to freeze someone's still beating heart. Even his own predecessor Avatar Genji used Bone Bending to kill the man who murdered Avatar Korra. The Equalist Grand Sage, Duga Seito. By the time Izuku gets back to the stands, Iida has already left the arena to go see his brother, and Momo and Kirishima have gone down to the field to begin their match.

Since Kirishima only has bending, Momo had elected to use her bending against the red headed lava bender. Contrary to Ojiro though, Kirishima had elected not to choose lavabending and to just stick with earthbending for their fight. It's probably for the best though, should he maim or accidentally kill Momo with lavabending he'd have to deal with the fury of what is essentially a reincarnated god using his full power to smite him and he'd rather not have to deal with that. Momo however, wasn't as lenient with her bending choice having chosen to use lightning for their fight. When the gong is struck, Kirishima attacks, immediately lifting a pillar underneath Momo's feet, sending her into the air. However, the reincarnation of Azula had wanted him to do this. Now that she's airborne, she doesn't have to worry about footwork when it comes to lightning generation. With a single sweep of her arm she immediately generates a large crackling white and blue bolt of lightning that arcs into the surrounding air. Thrusting her hands forwards she fires two bolts of lightning towards Kirishima. The first bolt connects with a stone wall he had raised in order to defend himself while the second connects with the ground behind him causing two massive explosions in the ring partially reducing the concrete to rubble. However when the smoke clears and she lands on the ground, Kirishima isn't in the ring and she can't find him anywhere out of bounds.

Suddenly the ground beneath her gives out sucking her into the stone as it has been turned into quicksand by the earthbender. She sinks almost all the way to chest height before Kirishima erupts from the other side of the ring, popping out of the stone floor before turning to face Momo with a smirk on his face. However despite being breast deep in quicksand, Momo is still capable at generating lightning as Kirishima soon finds out. More lightning begins crackling through the air around her fingers as she uses a more limited movement to create it. Realizing she's still capable of bending, Kirishima reflexively covers himself in the stones that were shattered by her initial lightning strike. Now coated in a less cool version of Ojiro's armor, Kirishima raises both arms in front of himself just in time to stop the bolt of lightning from hitting him directly in the stomach. The resulting explosion from the lightning blasts away Kirishima's armor and launches him from the ring causing him to bounce across the grass a couple times. As paramedics run onto the field to help him, he raises a thumb up into the air and mumbles into the dirt: "I'm okay," He says in a muffled voice before his arm slumps forwards and one of the paramedics douses him with a fire extinguisher.

"That's the match! Princess Yaoyorozu progresses to the Semi Finals!" Midnight declares. "And with that we're down to our last match of the quarter finals! Todoroki Shouto the Son of our number 3 hero Endeavor vs Bakugou Katsuki, the son of the top Female pro hero in the world Madam Blast!" With that the two fighters head down to the arena with the tension between them almost able to be cut with a knife.

"Entering the ring is the title fight of the quarter finals! The next generation of our strongest firebenders are facing off against each other in the ring. In the north corner weighing in at 225 lbs and standing at 5'11" give it up for our very own Sparky Sparky Boom Man, Katsuki Bakugou!" Mic shouts as Katsuki begins walking into the arena with a wide grin on his face. "And on the south side we have a man who is a dangerous combination on the battlefield. His firebending takes away any drawbacks of his quirk and was once thought to be the avatar by the Fire Sages when attending the Lu Ten Firebending Academy. Standing at 6'3" weighing in at 232 lbs, give it up for Todoroki Sh-"

"SSSSHHHHOOOOOOOTTTTTTTOOOOOOOUUUUU!!!!!!!!" The voice of Endeavor echoes through the arena completely drowning out Present Mic's voice as he cheers his youngest son's name.

"Alright boys! What are you going to fight with?!" Midnight declares as the crowd begins chanting, getting progressively faster and faster.

"Combustion." Katsuki declares as he pulls his hair up and out of his face before heating it with his hand keeping it out of the way of the agni eye on his forehead. He had effectively just used his firebending to act as a hair straightener. He settles into his fighting stance, and narrows his eyes as he faces down his rival.

"Cryokinesis." Shouto responds, naming his quirk, settling into a more relaxed stance preparing to use his quirk. He takes in a deep breath and exhales frost out in front of him as ice begins to appear along his skin.

"Begin!" Midnight shouts causing the gong to be rung.

Both Katsuki and Shouto breathe in almost the same time as they begin focusing their powers. Katsuki stomps forwards and flexes his core, extending his head towards Shouto before grunting and firing a combustion beam from his forehead. Shouto mirrors this move in stomping on the ground but he creates a glacier from his foot that launches forwards. Massive shards of ice launch forwards towards Katsuki meeting the combustion beam in the center of the ring. When the beam connects a massive explosion rips apart the glacier turning it instantly to vapor. The shockwave itself nearly launches Shouto from the ring forcing him to freeze his legs in place to keep from skidding out of bounds. "How's that?! Peppermint Punkass!" Katsuki shouts with a wide grin on his face, across from him, Shouto furrows his brows and extends the ice out from his feet. Beside him a long rod of ice lifts from the ground before he extends a hand and snaps it off. He spins it in his hands before the front end of it amasses more ice out into the shape of a long forward blade creating a glaive. He spins it around his back before resting it across his shoulders leveling the weapon at Katuski.

Deciding not to let Shouto make the next move, Katsuki fires another combustion beam towards his opponent. This time, Shouto dodges out of the way of this blast causing it to fly out of the ring before he uses his quirk to freeze the entire floor of the arena. Katsuki's legs almost get caught by the move but he jumps before firing a combustion beam beneath himself in order to launch himself into the air. Across the ring, Shouto frees his legs from the anchors he created before creating boots out of ice. Thrusting his legs forwards he creates a pair of skates beneath his feet allowing him to gain incredible speeds along the ice. He skates around the ring closing the distance between him and Bakugou before raising the glaive and attempting to swipe down at him in order to force Katsuki to use his firebending and evade the attack. What he doesn't expect is Katsuki to clap both of his hands together and catch the blade between them. "You really think that was gonna work twice?" Katsuki asks before the glaive melts in his hands causing Shouto's eyes to widen when he sees something.

The cameras zoom in to look at what just happened, and one of them catches something on the center of Katsuki's palm. The red oval shaped markings that sit prominently on his forehead. Katuski thrusts his hand forwards almost into the face of Todoroki before firing the combustion beam. "Holy Roku, Kacchan, Point Blank?!" Izuku shouts from the crowd before an explosion goes off launching the two away from each other. Todoroki had just barely been able to create a wall of ice in front of himself to stop the blast. The explosion sends both combatants away from each other and Shouto is almost thrown from the ring but he stops himself by creating a wall of ice around the arena preventing him from being thrown out. Katsuki on the other hand fires another beam from his palm, riding the shockwave through the air gaining height over his opponent. He clasps his hands together before opening his fingers outwards creating a triangle with his hands and staring down at Todoroki through it. "Triclops bastard." Todoroki growls as he resockets his dislocated shoulder before looking up to see Bakugou get to the peak of his jump. "Tri Beam Barrage!" Katsuki shouts before firing his combustion beam through the opening between his palms, and firing two more beams into the center one causing the three beams to spiral downwards towards Shouto. "Oh how cute you named it OH SHIT!!!" Todoroki shouts as the beam slams into the ground just in front of him setting off a massive explosion.

When the dust settles Shouto is laying flat on his back in the grass, his UA uniform slightly burned away and he's missing an eyebrow. Katsuki lands on the ice before slipping slightly then finding his balance before grinning. "Bakugou katsuki progresses to the semi finals!" Midnight declares as Katsuki walks over to Shouto's smoldering body. "C'mon pal, let's go get you patched up. That was a hell of a fight, Shouto." He says before grabbing his friend's arm and hoisting his unconscious form over his shoulder to go take him to the infirmary.
