Book 2, Selflessness.

Izuku stares silently at the ground as the sound of the three pros discussing what had happened fades out only replaced with ringing of tinnitus. Joki and Kawa were not even 6 years older than him and were new parents, their lives taken away by a monster. Kota isn't even two and a half, now orphaned by a madman. A life ruined before it even truly began, and the avatar was supposed to prevent such evils, meant to keep balance and he wasn't there to save them. As tears begin to well up in his eyes, the air begins to pick up speed getting faster and faster alerting All Might, Miruko and Aizawa. His hunched over position and furious expression causes his body to hitch and spasm with fury. All Might looks up from the report to see Izuku's anger fueled expression and furled angry eyes. His eyes suddenly flicker a bluish white causing All Might's blood to run cold seeing what's about to happen. As the light in his eyes flickers again, All Might lunges forwards and chops him on the back of the neck knocking him unconscious.

"I'll take him to the infirmary." All Might says as he hoists Izuku over his shoulder. "That was way too close of a call, if he triggered the avatar state here for the first time he would have killed us and probably destroyed the school."

"Is it really that powerful? I know the old stories of Genji and the other avatars but I thought they were exaggerating a little bit." Miruko says as All Might walks off towards the main entrance.

"Entire landmasses have been altered because of that power, it's the reason why Kyoshi Island isn't a part of the UEKS anymore." Aizawa says as he goes through his phone contacts. "It's even worse for firebenders, from what the sages told me when Avatar Roku used it for the first time it caused the Great Baru firestorm. That firestorm lasted for 6 weeks."

"You're joking." Miruko says incredulously but the stern look on Aizawa's face says otherwise. "Holy shit we could have died."

"Rumi, you've known me for 15 years, when have I ever told a joke?" Aizawa responds, prompting Miruko to turn to look at All Might and Izuku with a look of horror. "I'm going to call Shino so we can take in the boy."

"You get all that handled, I know Kawa listed you two as his godparents. What about Hitoshi?" Rumi asks as the two pros start making their way into the building.

"He probably won't care, the kid's pretty laid back despite knowing you, Mic and Nemuri. I'm really not looking forward to breaking the news to him that his aunt and uncle were murdered." Aizawa says as he presses Shino's name on his contact list, after a few dial tones his wife picks up the line on the other end. "Shino, are you ok?" He asks before going silent for a few moments, Rumi manages to hear the sobbing of the other woman on the phone call. "I know, I know... listen, I'm gonna go get Kota from daycare. We're gonna have to figure out some way to explain this to the kid... I'll call Hitoshi, just try to hold yourself together 'till I get home alright? I'll be there shortly... I love you too."

"I swear when I find that piece of filth who did this, I'm going to drown him in Lava." Rumi growls before turning and punching the ground in anger. The cracks exploding outwards from her hand glow red as the concrete liquifies into magma.

"Now is not the time, first we need to figure out who did this and gather evidence. We still have laws to uphold and a duty as heroes." Aizawa scolds, prompting Rumi to turn to face him, but the calm stirring anger on his face lets her know that he's keeping it under control but just barely. "If we do find him, I'm going to take his bending away. Permanently."

"You said..."

"I know what I said... but this is different." Aizawa ends the conversation before walking off at a pace far faster than Rumi is capable of walking without having to run after him. "That will be the first thing I teach to the avatar." Rumi gulps to herself, slightly afraid of what her friend is saying and is capable of. A chi blocking technique that completely severs a person's connection to their chi, destroying their ability to bend forever.

When Izuku comes to, the familiar warm white lights of the infirmary greet him as he slowly opens his eyes. He squints as he looks around the room, only finding a frail skinny blonde haired man in a green and yellow suit sitting beside him in the room. Izuku looks over at the man for a moment wondering who he is, noticing that he's watching the television in the corner of the room. The female reporter on the screen is tearing up as she reads the news of the deaths of several pro heroes and Water Hose. "Sorry for knocking you out earlier, we couldn't afford you going into the avatar state on school grounds. Especially for the first time." The man's voice is deep and slightly tired but as he turns to face Izuku the young avatar partially recognizes him. "Yeah I know this form isn't too pretty to look at but I couldn't hold my muscle form anymore." He says, "Gonna be hard to believe it but, I am All Might, or at least what's left of him."

"You sound the same." Izuku says before turning his attention to the television. "They're really gone aren't they?" He asks, receiving a sad nod from the scraggly blonde haired man as an answer. "Do they have a suspect?"

"It was a quirkbender by the name of Goto Isamuji, aka Muscular. He's an earthbender and has a quirk that allows him to manipulate his muscle fibers outside of his body." He responds before pausing for a brief moment to let Izuku take in the news. "Let's... just take a step back, this isn't why I wanted to speak to you, or why I revealed my true self."

"Why's that?" Izuku asks.

"Because of my injury. I can't be a hero for much longer. My quirk is a special one, and it's called One for All. It can be transferred from one generation to the next and it was given. I was born an earth bender and I've used it and One for All for my hero career. However, five years ago I was injured by my nemesis and I cannot use that power for much longer." All Might says as he clenches his fist then opens it towards Izuku. "I want you to be the next holder of One for All."

"I accept." Izuku answers, partially surprising the aging pro hero. "If you think I'm worthy of being your successor then I won't disappoint you."

"You're the avatar, Young Midoriya, I couldn't be disappointed with you as my successor. With the years you've spent training in the other bending disciplines you're probably strong enough to hold the power but I want you to utilize it's full strength from the get go. I'm going to train you harder than you've ever been in your entire life. Are you ready for the challenge?" All Might asks.

"Yes, Master All Might." Izuku answers solidly.

"Good, we'll begin your training tomorrow morning bright and early. I'll talk with headmaster Shyu about tweaking your classes so I can get as much time training with you as possible." All Might says before standing up and walking towards the door. "Oh and one last thing, you cannot tell anyone about that quirk. Ever. It'll only put them in great danger. There are a select few people that I trust enough to know of One for All, and I suggest that you find a small group that you can inform as well. They will be the only ones you'll ever be allowed to tell. Here, this will get you started in Metal Bending, its a piece of meteorite that was harvested from the Ceres colony." He says as he removes a black metal lump from his suit pocket and hands it to Izuku. "Miruko has left a couple scrolls in your dorm for you to read and practice. Our training might be a bit erratic since the three of us are still active pros. I'll see you tomorrow, Young Midoriya." All Might presses his fist into his palm then bows to Izuku before leaving the room.

The next morning.

All Might had convinced headmaster Shyu to allow Izuku to skip the majority of his academic classes in order to focus on training in his next element. However, that would require Izuku to test out of his classes in order to get the extra training time. That won't be too much an issue since Momo has been basically grinding his nose on the academic grindstone since their engagement was announced. The two of them have near perfect scores in each subject, though Izuku could still work a little more with math. On the far side of the horseshoe lake, All Might and Miruko have created a small artificial island for Izuku to train on and not break everything on school grounds. Aizawa isn't here this morning as he's consoling his family, leaving Miruko and All Might to go through Izukus training. With one of the rainy seasons best storms bearing down on them, the cold rain makes it hard to focus on what Miruko is saying from underneath the little stone gazebo she made for herself to get out of the rain.

"Harder dammit, hit the ground like it owes you money then strike the stone with that much force again!" She yells over the pounding rain.

Izuku takes a deep breath before squatting down into a wide stance. With his rear left foot he steps forward and up before slamming his barefoot hard on the stone causing a large rock to jump out of the ground and float in the air for a moment. He then shifts his right foot forwards then punches the stone as hard as he can, launching it into a stone target made to look like a cartoonish villain. The boulder completely obliterated the target causing Miruko to smirk at this before she stamps her foot on the floor and scrapes it to the side, flexing her arm outwards then in towards her chest. This causes several more statues to erupt from the ground for Izuku to strike at. Quicker this time, Izuku goes through the few basic moves that Miruko has taught him to raise more boulders before firing them at the targets. Each target getting obliterated by the stones launched at them. All Might stands nearby in his skinny form underneath an umbrella watching as Izuku goes through these movements and techniques. "Stop." He says, this causes the floating boulder Izuku is bending to drop to the floor with a thud as the old pro hero walks up to him. "Let's make this interesting." He says before pulling a handkerchief from his pocket. "Tie it over your eyes." Izuku stares at the piece of cloth for a few moments before talking the green piece of cloth and tying it over his eyes.

"Don't you think its a bit too early for that?" Miruko asks as All Might begins walking back towards her.

"No. He's reacting to the earth, not listening to it." All Might says. "Make them move this time, and attack at random."

"That seems a little unfair." Izuku comments from a few paces away.

"If you listen to the earth, you'll be fine. I have confidence in you, my boy. Now, begin." All Might says as he taps his foot into the water collecting on the stony ground. "Lift a wall around the training ground, I don't want him launching a boulder through the cafeteria window."

Miruko nods before stretching slightly, she folds her fingers together then bends forwards with her arms high behind her head as she prepares herself for this. She relaxes her arms then squats down as low as she can to the ground assuming a lifter's stance with her hands facing upwards by her shoulders as if holding a barbell. She flexes her thighs and buttocks causing the muscles to tighten and contract as she starts to press upwards against the ground. She presses hard with her legs and forces her arms upwards causing the ground to shake around them as the half mile wide island is affected by her bending. The rumbling ground soon produces a large stone wall several feet thick that raises slowly under the influence of her bending. As she gets to her full posture with her arms lifted high above her head the wall gets to it's full height easily able to contain any wayward boulders thrown by Izuku during this exercise. Repeating the same move to create the dummy statues, she shifts her feet outwards causing the statues to begin to move. Some of them moving in circular motions, others up and down and a few of them standing still preparing to attack. Izuku shifts his stance slightly to be more closed in similar to his firebending posture and holds his hands out and open. Trying to feel anything in the ground isn't going to work as the sliding of the statues is all he can sense at the moment and even that is just vague vibrations. Trying to feel for anything, he steps forwards and stomps hard on the ground causing one of the boulders to jump up from the soil. He punches the stone hard launching it into the nothingness he sees but he doesn't hear anything connected with the attack. Just the stone impacting the wall far away from him. Repeating this again and again, he attacks into thin air trying to hit something completely at random.

All Might gives Miruko a nod causing her to kick her heel on the ground moving the statue directly ahead Izuku towards him. Izuku doesn't feel when Miruko hits the ground, but he listens to the chaos around him and hears that one of the statues is getting closer. As he tries to feel out where its coming from, he's completely blindsided as the T posed statue slams straight into him, knocking him over. "I said listen to the earth, not let it crash into you." All Might calls out, prompting Izuku to get back to his feet then throw a punch forwards striking the now stationary statue destroying it. Returning to his original stance he begins trying to sense the vibrations a bit more trying to feel out what is happening around him. After a few moments, Izuku steps to a side stance and kicks the ground causing a line of jagged rocks to erupt from the earth in a straight line towards Miruko and All Might. The wall he created impacts one of the statues that is growing and shrinking then intercepts one of the moving ones as it circles him. All Might lifts a finger and stops the attack with just his hand. "That was a guess." Miruko says before she sends another statue towards him. This time its the one from behind him. Izuku once again hears the statue scraping against the ground and though one of his other senses saved him from getting tackled by it. He feels the displaced air from the statue and instinctively jumps over it before landing and punching the statue in the back destroying this one. "That was an Airbending technique." he admits causing Miruko to fold her arms in annoyance.

The next couple of strikes result in complete misses but the last stone he launches comes very close to striking one of the stationary targets. All Might notices this and has Miruko send the last attacking statue towards him. The one on his right comes sliding in at high speeds right towards him as he's facing the complete wrong direction of the statue. As it gets closer and closer, All Might watches as Izuku tilts his head to the side and stops moving trying to feel out what's coming. Abruptly he turns towards the incoming statue and punches it as hard as he can, destroying it in an instant. All Might starts clapping seeing Izuku do this as Miruko drops the statues back into the ground where she made them. "Good job, and you did it faster than I thought it would've taken you. I thought we'd be at this till this typhoon blows over." All Might congratulates before walking up to Izuku. "Let's head inside before you catch a cold. This storm is gonna get wor-" As All Might is speaking, Izuku suddenly turns around and sticks a hand out up towards the heavens catching a golden bolt of lightning that came crashing down. He lowers that hand down through his belly then back towards the sky returning it to the storm. "Worse... yeah I think we should go." He says as he waves Miruko over for her to follow them back inside the school. Izuku creates a dome of water with his bending to keep Miruko and himself from getting any more soaked as they head back.
