~Jinhai POV~

As we got to the prison, Katara and I were standing together with our hands behind our backs with other prisoners.

The only reason I came with her is just to not only find Haru, but also find my mom and get out of here. Once the warden came, we stood at attention.

Warden: Earthbenders, it is my pleasure to welcome you aboard my modest shipyard. I am your warden. I'd prefer not to think of you as prisoners, but as honored guests, and I hope you come to think of me as your caring host. You will succeed here if you if simply-

Jinhai(coughing): Shut up.

He walked up to me and wanted me to look at him.

Warden: Your name young man?

I looked down with a smirk as he grabbed my head and made me face him.

Warden: Look at me, prisoner.

I moved my eyes to Kat who was concerned, but I wasn't, not even a little bit.

Warden: Look at me in the eye. Tell me your name.

I looked at him angrily and I said this...

Jinhai: Drop dead.

The warden then punched me in the stomach, hard. I immediately went on my knees, and Kat was trying to help me up, but guards held her back.

Warden: You will not disrespect me young man, or you will pay the ultimate price.

Jinhai: Well, I just did.

He got angry again and this time he ordered two guards to beat me and kick me in my stomach over and over again. In the corner of my eye, I saw that Kat was in tears.

Warden: That's enough. Bring him up.

They put me on my feet and went beside him, and then he kicked my butt. He gave me such a hard punch to my mouth that I think he popped my lip! After a couple more punches, Kat cried out to stop the torture.

Kat: STOP IT! DON'T YOU SEE YOU'RE HURTING HIM? PLEASE STOP!

I glared at Kat to say another word and she didn't say anything else after that. I felt the blood coming off my lip and from my nose. My nose was broken and my lip was bleeding.

Warden: Send him to solitary confinement along with that woman who fought with us.

"Woman"? Did they mean who I think they meant?

They took me away as I smirked at Kat, reassuring her it's how I wanted things to turn out for me.

Once underground, they threw me into a cell that looked empty and dark until I heard a familiar voice.

Jinhai: Now I gotta find mom.

?????: Jinhai?

Jinhai: Hello?

Who came out of the shadows just made me realized I finished a section of my plan to help my mom escape.

?????: Jinhai, it's me, mom.

I looked at my mother who looked famished, but I was happy to see her.

Jinhai: Mom.

She came running and was going to hug me, but when she saw the popped lip and my broken nose, she immediately started crying and hugged me so very tightly that she didn't want me to let go.

Mom: What happened to you?

Jinhai: Let's say I pushed the Warden's buttons just to find you and help you escape.

Mom: ESCAPE?! Are you stupid?! Solitary Confinement is an inescapable place! There are so many Fire Nation soldiers. You have no chance of escaping. It's 1,000,000 to 1!

Jinhai: It might be, but I'm going out either way.

Mom: Just get some rest. You need it. Also, let me fix up your face.

Jinhai: Alright.

I sat down on her bed and waited for mom to clean up the blood on my face.

Mom: What's the plan for escaping? Where's Katara and your friends?

Jinhai: Katara's here looking for a friend while I'm here to help you get out of here.

Mom: Son, I don't know if we will get out of here. We don't firebend.

Jinhai: I know, but we will find a way.

After a while, I was called to the open shipyard and that could mean one thing: Kat has found Haru.

Guard: Hey, scum. You're heading to the upper deck where everyone else is.

I was grabbed by the arm, and I pinned him to the wall.

Jinhai: I can handle myself, thank you very much.

I let him go and I was walked up with two guards, but when I made it there, they pushed me down and I landed on my face, blood pouring out of my nose.

~Katara POV~

I heard a thud behind me and I saw Jinhai over. I dropped my bowl of food, ran over and hugged him so tightly. I didn't even know I was crying.

Kat: Are you okay Jinhai?

Jinhai: I'm fine. Just a little blood, that's all.

Kat: It's not a little, it's a lot.

I tore a bit of the uniform from my tunic and cleaned his nose.

Kat: You better not do anything like that again. I was worried.

Jinhai: You don't have to worry about me all the dang time, Katara. I think before I act and what I did to get into solitary confinement was an idea. I thought of it before we got here.

Kat: You are creative, don't get me wrong, but it's yourself you should worry about, Jinhai. If anything like that happens again, they're gonna kill you.

Jinhai: What do I care about being killed? I'd rather die than give in to their quote unquote "prophecy".

Kat: If you want to die, then I won't let it happen. Like that dream you had, someone was going to die in it right?

Jinhai: Yeah. I haven't had it for sometime for some reason. If I get it again and I wake up, keep me on my toes if you please.

Kat: Anything for you. Come on, let me bring you to Haru.

~Jinhai POV~

Kat brought me to Haru who was nice as I got to meet his actual father. He polite and courteous to me as he handed me a bowl of food.

I took a bite and the first bite was good, but it had a bad aftertaste. I wasn't hungry after that, and I decided to nap on the cold metal floor.

After a bit, Kat woke me up to see Aang and Sokka, who apparently followed us on the way here, which I can appreciate.

~Nighttime~

At night, Kat and I met with Aang and Sokka and making sure we weren't seen.

Sokka: Your 12 hours are up, where's Haru? We've got to get out of here.

Kat: We can't.

Sokka: We don't have much time, there are guards everywhere. Get on.

Aang: Katara, what's wrong?

Kat: I'm not leaving. I'm not giving up on these people.

Sokka: What do you mean you're not leaving?!

Kat: We can't abandon these people, including Jinhai's mom. There has to be a way to help them.

Jinhai: Guys, I think I hear something about my mom.

Kat: What are they saying?

Jinhai: I don't know, but I'm gonna check it out. Aang, got my piercers?

Aang threw me my piercers and I caught it with one hand as I look to find out what they were saying.

I went below them to overhear what they were going to say.

Guard 1: Yeah so what are we doing that girl?

Guard 2: You mean that kid's mother?

Guard 1: Yeah, I mean she's a freaking nutshell. If his father were here, he'd burn her eyebrows off.

Jinhai(thinking): Now you're asking for it.

Warden: Having a night out, aren't we gentlemen?

Guard 1: Warden sir. Just hanging around, watching the night sky.

Warden: Well I like the night. It soothes my mind.

I had to drop down as quietly as I can.

Warden: I heard about this kid's mother. What about her?

Guard 2: She's too dangerous to be kept alive, sir. We have to kill her.

Don't tell me that he just said that!

Guard 1: How will we kill her?

Guard 2: It's quite simple, really. Just make her eat some coal into her mouth. It's gonna look lovely.

Warden: I'm looking forward to seeing that happen. I love that idea.

Jinhai: Then you're gonna love me too.

They saw me behind them as the first Guard ran at me, I stabbed his chest along with a stab to the throat as I kicked the second guard in the shin, breaking his leg, and tossing him overboard as the one left is the warden.

I spun a piercer around, as a distraction and to get some of the blood off, before another one came at me, a tripped him, and stabbed him in the back of his head.

Before the Warden could attack me, I kicked back into the wall and had my piercer against his throat, pinning him to the wall.

Jinhai: You're gonna take me to her.

He laughed in my face as I put the sword hard on his throat, almost making him bleed.

Warden: Do you really think you're gonna save your mom? She's a rebel like you. And sometimes rebels have to be put down.

Jinhai: You wouldn't. Where is she?

Warden: Down below in the furnace. I suggest you hurry. You don't want to see her dead, do you?

Jinhai: Never.

I stabbed his cheek and then gagged him.

Once I saw the keys, I took them, put them in my pocket and went to the furnace to save my mom.

As I got there, there were some coal in a sack and I needed to stop them before it was too late.

Guard 3: Let the execution, BEGIN!

Jinhai: Not while I'm here!

I ran towards them with my piercers and some started running at me, but with my skills, I stabbed their throats and chests, ignoring the bodies. I was able to stop the executioner before they made her swallow the coal by slicing the hands off by kicking him off as he died from the fall.

I got to mom, untied her, and held her in my arms as she cried.

Mom: They were going to kill me!

Jinhai: I know. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you while you're around. I saw you die once and I'm not gonna let you die again.

Mom: Let's get out of here before more come and catch us.

Jinhai: Yeah.

We both ran and when we came out, Katara and the others were being surrounded by the Guards! I had to help them.

Jinhai: Mom, with the earthbenders, now.

I went with my friends and brought my piercers out.

Tyro: Katara stop! You can't win this fight!

Warden: Listen to him well, child. You're only mistake away from dying where you stand.

Jinhai: I suggest you don't talk to my family that way!

Katara, Sokka, and mom were shocked at what they heard. Yes, I said it. They're my family and I won't let them get away with it.

Jinhai: You got something to say to them, you say it to my face!

Warden: Really? So you're going to stand up for pathetic fellow prisoners?

Jinhai: All I'll tell you is that your reign of terror is over!

Haru and Tyro bended some coal and swap it into the guards' faces and that got them ready for a fight, but then, I saw some of the guards flying some fireballs towards me, but all of a sudden, a coal wall blocked me!

I looked back, I saw...

?????: Get away from my son!

...my own mom EARTHBENDING?!

Jinhai: Mom?!

Mom: I won't let them harm you, sweetie. Not while I'm here.

Warden: We have another earthbender, huh? Well, that's just fine by us, because you all better get ready to die!

Jinhai: Sokka! Twin Hooks!

He passed me them as I connected the hooks together with a smirk...

Jinhai: Let's see what your insides look like.~

Warden: Guards, attack!

A huge fight broke out as we fought the entire group of Fire Nation soldiers.

I then swung the hooks around, slashing the necks of a few guards as a few came up and looked to kill me, but I blocked their blows with the blockers, hooked their stomachs, threw them on the ground and stabbed them with the daggers.

Another one was running at me, but I connected them again, swung them as the edge of the dagger part sliced the guard's belly open, killing him.

I then was spinning the hooks separately, almost like I'm dancing, and then stabbing the guards in the necks with the hook ends, before I took up a firebender's corpse, a guard had a fireball thrown at me, but I threw the corpse at him and then used the dagger to kill it.

I saw that Momo was collecting the tips of the spears as some firebenders in the towers were throwing fireballs at us.

I had an idea.

Jinhai: Mom! Think you can make up some cover for me?

Mom: Sure can!

Jinhai: Momo! Lend me those spear tips!

He flew down, my mom gave me some cover from the coal, and Momo gave the spears to me as I took one, threw it at the guard, and it was stabbed into the chest, killing him before I took the others and they were stuck into the wall.

I bounced onto each of them as I made it up there, looking to take them out.

I was in the middle of their ranks, but I pushed one away, to create some space, took out a piercer, and stabbed one in the neck as did the same to the other I just pushed.

I managed to take them out and it wasn't too long before Tyro was earthbending the Warden and his goons in the air over the ocean.

Warden: No! Please!

Tyro: Don't worry. I hear cowards float.

He dropped the warden and his goons into the ocean, I said with a wave...

Jinhai: Bye bye!

...as they were dropped in the ocean and the battle was over. I got off the wall, ran over to my Mom and hugged her with all my strength! I didn't know she could Earthbend!

Jinhai: I didn't know you could do that.

Mom: Son, you got a lot to learn before you could try what I just did.

Jinhai: I suppose I do.

I kissed her head and went to the others, who were waiting for me.

At the boat, we had to say goodbye to mom and Haru.

Haru: I want to thank you for saving me. For saving us.

Kat: All it took was a little coal.

Haru: It wasn't the coal, Katara. It was you.

Tyro: Thank you for helping me find my courage, Katara, of the Water Tribe. My family and our village owes you that much.

Kat: So, I guess you're going home now?

As she was talking to Haru and the others, mom and I were talking.

Mom: Promise me you will write?

Jinhai: I can't promise, considering that we'll be in different places along the way.

Mom: That's fair. You take care of yourself, and keep your friends safe, okay?

Jinhai: I can promise you that.

Kat: My mother's necklace! It's gone!

I quickly turned around and saw her on the brink of tears.

Mom: Go to them, Jinhai. I hope to see you again.

Jinhai: Same here.

We hugged and I kissed her head before I went to Katara to comfort her.

Kat: It's gone. I can't believe it's gone.

She cried into my chest and I had to hug her, but luckily, I brought the necklace that Gran Gran gave me and put it around her neck, as she can wear this until we find it.

She recognize the feeling and was confused.

Kat: Jinhai? What is this?

Jinhai: Think of it as a way to replace the necklace until we get yours back.

Kat: Oh, thank you. That's so sweet.

She hugged me until the day ended and we flew on into the sky, but I promise you, mom, I will come back and see you.
