Cass disapproves of Jake's parenting to the boys after the train raid

"Jesus Christ,"
"Got something to say, little miss perfect?"
"Uh, yeah, I do actually. If mum and dad spoke to you the way you speak to those boys, you'd've ran away! WITH Tommy!!"

Cass stroked Athena's snout, flicking her queue over her shoulder with a huff. "Good girl," She hummed. She winced slightly upon the sight of her nephew. Before she could ask if he was ok, Jake stormed in front. She frowned, following. "Fall in!" He ordered. Cass hissed with a frown. "Nete? You ok?" She called, standing by his side. He waved her off. "It's fine, auntie,"

Cass narrowed her eyes, twisting his shoulder to look at his back. She hummed lowly, but didn't say anything further. Jake huffed angrily, glancing around. Cass rolled her eyes with a sigh; here comes Mr high and mighty. Neteyam's ears pressed to his skull, followed by his head falling down. Cass peered around his shoulders to check on lo'ak; who was hesitating by his Ikran, Asutey. "You're supposed to be spotters," Jake snapped. "You spot bogeys and you call them in."

Cass briefly remembered her own injury sustained in the battle; a sprained shoulder. Had Lo'ak and Neteyam (even though it was most defiantly the formers idea) stayed to warn, Cass wouldn't have had to have used the rocket launcher, knackering her shoulder in the process. "From a distance!" Even injured, she knew this was hurting Neteyam, more than the bullet wound on his shoulder... which her dear brother had yet to notice or acknowledge. He flicked angrily at the ground; "Does any of this sound familiar?! Get here!" Lo'ak shuffled forwards, refusing to meet his dads eyes.

"Jesus Christ," She muttered. Jake raised an eyebrow, eyes wide with fury. "Got something to say, little miss perfect?" Cass's tail whipped back and forth behind her. "Uh, yeah, I do actually. If mom and dad spoke to you the way you speak to those boys, you'd've ran away! WITH Tommy!!" She snapped. Cass glared angrily at her older brother, holding his furious glare. Neither broke it until; "Ma Jake," With a huff, Jake turned back to be horrid to his sons.

Cass was almost struck with the alikeness he held to their own father. Protective as hell, but expecting way too much at a young age. That was part of the reason Jake ran away when he was sixteen and joined the marines; because their dad put way too much pressure on him. Tommy was the angel child; perfect in everyday. He was also the oldest, while Cass was the youngest. Jake was the middle child by 23 minutes one side, and 11 years the other, like Lo'ak is. "Hey," She barked. Jake froze in his tirade, turning to glare at her. "In case you hadn't noticed, Ranger Rick, your boy is injured. Might wanna deal with that first," Jake's eyes flicked towards his son, who was still refusing to meet his piercing gaze. "What about you, boy?" He snapped.

Cass scoffed quietly, rolling her eyes. "Are you injured?" Cass raised an eyebrow at Kiri, who rolled her eyes with a huff. "N-not that I-I know of... sir," Cass flicked his back with her tail. "Fine. Go ahead and get patched up, dismissed."

"You suck ass at parenting." Cass snorted, wincing when Jake pulled taught on the bandage. "Do you have kids?" Jake retorted. Cass narrowed her eyes. "Not biologically, but I sure as hell well raised Spider on my own. And he's ok; not injured, nor trying to prove himself. It's just you who sucks," Jake pulled on her bandage harshly. She hissed, spinning and snapping her teeth. "What the fuck?" She spat. Jake narrowed his eyes, throwing the bandage childishly at her lap. "It'll be fine in a few days. Don't go shooting no more launchers," He stormed off.

Cass stuck her tongue out at his back, sneering as he walked off. "Cass," A warning tone was heard singing her name. She gave a tight lipped smile to her sister-in-law, scurrying off and away from her piercing gaze as she rubbed ointment into her son's wound.

It didn't take her long to find Lo'ak; he wasn't hiding very well. She nodded to the left at her niece and pseudo son. They thankfully got the message, and with a tap to his shoulder, left Lo'ak alone. She grunted as she sat, nearly falling onto him. "Shit... I didn't realise how much we relied on our arms," She joked, but it fell flat. Lo'ak's ears were pressed so tightly against his skull, they were gonna leave dents. She bumped his leg with her own. "You ok? I know he was a bit harsh then, but he means well," She said. Lo'ak didn't look her way, but he rested his head on her shoulder. She wrapped an arm around his middle, much like she used to when he was younger. "You used to cuddle me like this when you were a kid," She voiced her thoughts. When Lo'ak still didn't speak, she frowned. "You ok? You're very quiet," She subtly rubbed his arm.

After a beat, he finally mumbled; "Just a headache," Cass hummed. "Sit up for me?" She crouched in front of his face, wincing at how large his pupils were. "How many fingers can you see?" She held up four. "Uh... th-three? No, five," Cass tutted. "Yeah, you're concussed. You must've banged your head at some point," She pulled her small flashlight out, shining it into his eyes. Despite his agitated hiss, his pupils stayed large. "Yeah, definitely concussed. Come on. We need to get you checked out,"

Slowly, they ambled back to the medical hut, ignoring the looks thrown their way. She waved her hand high, flagging down Kiri. "Hey, can you get your mom? Dumbass here hit his head and didn't think to mention it to anyone," She ignored the grumble from her 14-year old nephew. "Oh god. Is he ok?" Kiri bent down to look into his downcast eyes. "He's probably fine. He's not puked or passed out yet. But I wanna get him checked first," She pulled his arm around her neck, baring most of his weight. Kiri scampered off, gesturing for her to follow.

That evening, Cass gazed at the stars. "They're pretty tonight; bright for a nice change," She smiled as Neteyam sat next to her. "How's the shoulder?" She asked after a moment. "Sore... how's yours?"

"Sore," She repeated with a smirk. Neteyam rolled his eyes with a huff. "I'll be safe up here, won't I? Like I won't fall out or some shit?" Despite using her Avatar form now for over a decade, she was still unsure about leaving it in the trees like Jake did. "If it makes you feel better, even though I think it'll be fine, you can rest in our hut. Dad won't care," Cass nodded as she continued to stare at the stars. After a while in silence, she cast a look over to her (far too matrue for his age) nephew, smiling softly when she saw his eyes fluttering closed. "Well, I dunno about you, but I'm beat." She said, smiling. "Come on. I need my beauty sleep,"
