Demon blood
Hayley - Shadow
~
Backstory: A few months after Neteyam was born, Jake and Neytiri stumbled upon Spider and Hayley: twins who were born on the human base. Whilst Spider is just happy to be included in the family's antics, Hayley is slightly less accepting of Neytiri's cold demeanour towards them both.
*Also, the Sully kids are a year older*
Spider & Hayley - 17
Neteyam - 16, nearly 17.
Kiri - 15
Lo'ak - 14, nearly 15.
Tuk - 9
"All he ever did was try to please you! Why are you so cold!"
"You have demon blood!"
Hayley stayed crouched under shrubbery, her gun loaded, watching the RDA people meander about. You're probably thinking: why is she, a human herself, hunting other humans? Well, these RDA people liked to hunt down and experiment on Ikrans and other harmless Pandorian beings. Including Hayley's own Ikran. For that, they must die. They killed hers, and Tuk's, Ikran, though the latter didn't know. Jake and Neytiri, Tuk's parents, told her the Ikran wanted to have babies and migrated to an island where they did, and she wouldn't be back. She was adopted into the Sully clan many years ago by Jake. Alongside her twin brother, Miles, more fondly referred to as Spider. He did seem to have a natural affinity for climbing trees like they were nothing. Unlike her: Hayley could move very silently and very subtly. That is why she was sent out to scope the area and snipe from the trees if she had to.
Together, they were quite the duo.
"Hey, shadow!" Hayley jumped and ducked for cover, hauling the 9-year-old girl down with her. The RDA scampered as they grabbed their own guns and aimed in the forest, thankfully away from where Hayley and her stray were hiding. "Tuk! What are you doing here? You should be with your mom!" She hissed quietly. "Mom flew away with dad! I came to find a grown-up!" The 9-year-old argued. Hayley chanced a glance behind the bushes, thankful the RDA seemed to move off in the opposite direction. "Where're your brothers? Or Kiri?" Tuk pushed some hair out of her eyes. "They went off after mom and dad. I don't know where Kiri is,"
Hayley puffed a breath of air out quietly. "What are you doing anyway? Are these the people that take our Ikrans?" Hayley shot a quick look back at the child before settling her glare on the general of the base camp. "My Ikran, and yes." The RDA group began to move closer to where they were hiding. "Tuk, when I say run, you've gotta run. Faster than me, faster than anything you've done before. Got it?" She nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "It's ok. I'm just gonna throw my gun over there to divert them: but they're smart, and they'll run for us. What they don't know:" She paused, tapping the girl's nose, "Is your brothers are waiting atop a tree branch about 6 trees away, waiting to kill them." She flashed a smile. "You ready?" Hayley asked.
She fired off a shot in the general direction of the RDA base camp: shouts and roars followed quickly. "Go, go go!" She hissed. Hayley threw her gun in that same direction and run after the 9-year-old. Tuk giggled as she ran, making Hayley giggle as well. They safely ran under the 6th tree, and safely behind Tuk's brothers, who were indeed, waiting with Spider on the branches. "Quick, climb! They're coming," Hayley shoved the little girl up the branches, laughing as she scrambled up. A large blue hand was extended down, and she grasped it tightly, allowing him to pull her up. "Thanks, 'Tey," She smiled. Sure enough, the RDA troops rushed through, shouting and screaming for the person who shot their commander. Spider snorted. "Even not looking, you still have a dead shot," Hayley bowed dramatically. "So why can't you shoot a bow?"
She punched Lo'ak.

Hayley held her gun tightly to her side. She was very aware of the knife softly digging into her skin, resting in her belt. She peered around a tree, spotting her wayward friends in captive. Jake, Neytiri and Neteyam had gone for a fly-around to scout for any bogies in the air as a precaution. So she was on her own. Kiri, Spider, Tuk and Lo'ak were all stuck, desperately needing help. She reached for the small wire on her neck, a gift from Neteyam. "Hey, guys? Uh... Jake?" She whispered. "Hayley? What's wrong?" Jake's voice came back. "Uh, I was scouting, and I've just come across the others being held hostage." She whispered back, pushing her front against a tree trunk. "Others? What do you mean by others?"She aimed her gun at the tallest, meanest-looking one. "Lo'ak, Spider, Kiri and Tuk." She answered.
The line was silent for a few beats. "Where is your location? We're on our way," She glanced around. "Uh... maybe 10 clicks away from the old RDA base. Where you and Quaritch fought," Despite knowing that Quaritch was hers and Spider's biological dad, she refused to acknowledge him as more than a sperm donor. He screwed her mom, literally and metaphorically, and left them all on Pandora to die. She knew that Spider craved a father. Norm and Max were great, but they were more like uncles. Jake was the closest thing they both had to a dad, but Neytiri made it hard to want to stay.
"Do I have permission to engage? They seem to be hurting them. They're holding them by their braids... their queues?" She whispered, unclicking the safety from her gun. "Negative. If they're a trigger-happy bunch of people, then they won't hesitate to shoot back... or at the kids." Jake answered. "But they're not people, they're Avatars... and one kinda looks like Quaritch... but I'm a ways back so I can't be certain... and he's dead," She rambled. Jake was silent. "Have they hurt them? The kids?" Hayley crawled along the branch, edging closer. "Uh... Tuk's fine... Kiri has a cut on her cheek... Lo'ak has a black eye and Spider has bruises around his neck,"
Jake hissed on the other end. "I trust your judgement. If you think you need to shoot, do it. I'll kill 'em myself when I get there anyway. Over,"
Hayley made sure her magazine and silencer were on and secure to the gun before she slid down the tree. She grabbed her knife as well and approached the group. She grabbed and threw a rock, drawing their attention, giving her time to shoot one in the back of his neck, killing him quickly and silently. Quaritch shifted uneasily. "Who's out there?" He called. "Don't think I'm above hurting a kid, cus I will!" He called. Hayley ignored him and jumped up with her knife, embedding it in another's chest. She let her fall to the ground, Hayley's knife clearly sticking out.
"It's shadow!" Tuk cheered. Hayley gagged. God, she hated that name. It was so cringe!
"Oh, you're dead now," Spider chuckled. "Why, boy? You know this shadow?" Quaritch snapped. "Very well. And I guarantee you she's already killed two, if not more of your soldiers,"
For point-proving purposes, she shot another Avatar in the face, letting him fall to the ground.
The next 30 seconds were a blur. The avatar she thought she'd killed grabbed and twisted her arm painfully. "Bitch," She hissed, shoving Hayley into the clearing. The avatar died moments later, but not before somebody grabbed Hayley.
Quaritch sneered as he approached. As he came closer, he suddenly jolted. "Pat? Patricia Socorro?" Hayley sneered. "That's my mom, asshole," Quaritch smirked evilly. "Oh, this'll be fun,"
~
Hayley sat silently as Kiri and Moat bandaged her dislocated shoulder back into place. She listened as Neytiri and Jake argued in the hut next door, loudly. Vowing to stay quiet: Hayley chose to play with the ring she and Spider used to wear... before he was taken. She wandered slowly past Jake and Neytiri's hut, walking just behind Neteyam and Lo'ak when she heard: "He's a risk. It's better he's with them, than us."
Hayley saw red.
"How dare you?" She questioned, storming into the hut. She knew the siblings followed her in: but she didn't care. "Why are you in here? This is a matter for the adults!" Neytiri snapped. "No! How dare you?! How dare you act so nonchalant about Spider!? He's gone, probably dead, and you don't give a fuck!" She shouted. "Hay..." One of the brothers, probably Neteyam, said quietly. "No! All he did was try to be accepted by you! For some god-forsaken reason, I don't know!! But he wanted a family! One we never got!" Neytiri glared. "You are sky-people. There is no room for people like you," Hayley screamed, slamming her fist on the first hard object she could find. "All he ever did was try to please you! Why are you so cold!?" She screamed.
"You have demon blood!" Neytiri screamed back. Hayley took a step back, blinking. "Ok... this escalated way too quickly. Hayley, go take a walk. Neteyam, watch her," Jake interjected.
It was too late: the damage was done.
Hayley scoffed. "No, d'ya know what? I'm done. I'm done trying to fit in. You guys might like and accept me, but she won't. And that's fine. I'm finished," She spread her hands with a sneer. "We are done. You can explain to your children why I'm not around anymore,"
Hayley stormed out of the hut, Neteyam and Lo'ak hot on her tail. "Hayley! Mother didn't mean it! She was just angry! She's always spoken before she thought!" The former shouted. Hayley halted abruptly. "And I'm supposed to forgive her? Tey, she couldn't give a fuck that Spider's dead. I could get over the demon comment, I see Quaritch as that as well. But her blatant disregard for my brother? The kid that's only ever tried to fit in with her ideals and views!?"
The brothers glanced down. "And besides, that demon comment? As far as I agree: it still hurt, Tey. It's not our fault Quaritch is our dad, is it?" She kicked a stone into some shrubbery. "So... you guys can come to visit me if you want, but I'm not going back there... not until she apologises, or at least acknowledges Spider was a good kid,"
"Ha, when the sky turns green," Lo'ak scoffed. Neteyam shot him a dark look. "Exactly. I don't have high hopes,"
Hayley stuffed her hands in her pocket. "So... you guys know where I live... it's safe for Tuk as well, it's all cammed up and RDA proof." She shot them one last sad smile before turning and walking off to her room back on the human base.
