Part 11 [Final Part]

The next day, rumors began to spread throughout the town. Some of loud noises coming from the direction of the shrine and others of large creatures seen flying over town. Although there were many speculations as to what occurred, the actual events that took place remained shrouded in mystery.

As time passed, the rumors faded and were replaced with news about Junak’s wedding. The entire town was filled with excitement as they tried to unravel the mysteries surrounding the bride to be. Who was she? How did they meet? Was it an arranged marriage?

Months passed and as the sun rose on the day of his wedding, the unanswered questions that plagued the curiosity of the townspeople became irrelevant. The entire town was buzzing with excitement as they prepared for the wedding. The shrine, which had been reopened shortly after the festival, was decorated for the occasion with flowers and ribbons.

“Congratulations, Junak!” the guests merrily greeted the groom as he arrived at the shrine.

“So, when is the bride to be supposed to make her appearance?” Tratan whispered sarcastically in his ear.

Junak looked Tratan in the eyes and stoically said “At noon.” Then, after a brief pause, they both broke into laughter.

Tratan looked at his watch and said “It is almost noon, Junak. Do you think we should go inside and wake the bride?”

            “She’s not inside, Tratan.”

Tratan turned his attention to Junak, who was gazing up at the sky. “If she isn’t inside, where is she?”

Junak smiled and pointed up “Right there.”

Tratan quickly turned to look where Junak was pointing. Although it was far off, he could still see that there was definitely something there. “Junak, tell me that isn’t her.”

            “Well, it isn’t just her.”

            “What! You mean…”

“They all wanted to come together. So, we thought we would surprise everyone.”

            "Are you crazy?"

Suddenly, one of the guests caught on to what was happening and shouted “Hey, look over there!”

The guests all started to gather in the courtyard as the objects in the sky drew closer. when they were finally in clear view, the guests became extremely anxious. The objects they saw were four very large, very real dragons.

The guests were on the verge of panic as they turned to face Junak and Tratan. Tratan hung his head and shook it back and forth while Junak smiled. “How can he be smiling?” the crowd nervously whispered.

The four dragons landed, transformed into their human forms and approached Junak. The ladies hugged him, while the guys patted him on the back.

“Junak!” his mother nervously approached “What is going on?”

“I’m sorry for not telling you this sooner, but…” he didn’t know how to put it into words, so instead he allowed his body to transform.

His mother collapsed to the ground as her son’s hair and eyes turned silver and grey wings appeared on his back. “Ju…nak.”

“Mother, do you remember how I always dreamed about Princess Valora?”

His mother nodded with wide eyes. “Is she?”

“Yes Mother, she is my bride.” He looked back up at the sky and smiled. There, floating in the air, was a woman with purple hair and wings in a beautiful wedding dress accompanied by a handsome man with white hair and black wings.

Junak walked forward and extended his arm towards her, offering his hand. “You look beautiful, Valora” he said smiling tenderly.

She graciously accepted his hand and gently landed next to him as though an angel were descending from the heavens. She smiled as she looked into his eyes and blushed “Thank you, Junak. You look handsome too.”

“Are the two of you ready?” The Dragon King asked.

          “Yes!” they answered together.

Junak escorted Valora into the shrine. The dragons and Tratan followed behind them. The townspeople were shocked by what they had just witnessed, but their curiosity took precedence over their fear and they too followed the couple into the shrine.

The Dragon King approached the altar and made an announcement “Welcome everyone to this happy occasion. Today we are here to celebrate the marriage of my daughter Valora to Junak. If anyone objects to this marriage, then speak now.”

When no one spoke, the Dragon King smiled and said “Seeing as no one objects, how about we make this a short ceremony?” He gave a little chuckle and said “Junak.”

          “Yes” Junak perked right up.

“Do you take my lazy, unrefined, good for nothing daughter as your wife?”

Valora and Junak looked at him dumbstruck while the guests stifled a little chuckle. “Pardon?” Junak voiced.

“You realize it isn’t going to be just forty or fifty years. We’re talking hundreds of years together. Are you sure you really want to marry her?”

“Father!” Valora screamed and the guests started laughing.

“Yes Sir, I do” Junak replied with a smile.

“Valora” he now turned his attention to his daughter.

“Yes” she looked at him warily.

“Do you take this handsome, respectful and talented young man to be your husband?”

“Yes, I do” she replied with a smile.

“Good” he sighed “I didn’t know where I was going to find another man who’d put up with you if you had refused.”

“Father!” the guests began laughing once more.

He then turned to Junak “Are you really sure you want to put up with that attitude of hers for thousands of years?”

Junak chuckled and said “Call me crazy, but I find it rather adorable.”

          “Awww” the crowd cooed.

“You’re definitely crazy if you find that adorable” he retorted and everyone started laughing again. “Well, if I can’t change your mind” he paused as he let out a sigh. “Congratulations! I now pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may now kiss the bride.” Junak gently took Valora’s hand and pulled her into a deep kiss as the guests cheered.
