Autism is one on a multitude of other mental disabilities called ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Among this list include Aspergers Syndrome, Autism, Written Expression Disorder, ADD, ADHD, an more. The seriousness of how it affects the victim is high or low functioning. High functioning individuals can understand speech and act almost normal in their environment with minor social problems. Low functioning individuals cannot understand speech and do not act as a normal child would. They usually cannot speak. Autism is drives from the Latin word Auto Meaning automatic. Autism is mainly noticeable by odd behavior in social environments, stemming, (self stimulation such as flapping arms), repetitive actions, no eye contact and more. It is believed that autistic peoples brains develop too quickly in the womb as the result of possible drugs. The body does not know what to do with it as it is not needed and so the social and motor parts of the brain become weak. Autism can only be truly evaluated by age three as the symptoms show more clearly then.
