My thoughts on writing

Why hello there! So I was thinking (Outloud haha) about writing and I figured I should share my ideas and thoughts about it.
So whenever I write something I try to go by simple rules (If you can even call them that, they are more like guidelines in a way) to try to make the writing more realistic, almost like you are the character, or are right next to them depending on the point of view. I figured I could list these guidelines that I somewhat in a way try to follow in my writing. I would love to hear your opinions on the subject as well if you have any comments about it. Just please, respect that these are my opinions and I am trying to not hurt any feelings here.

(1.) Making the writing smooth.

Alright so what I mean by making the writing smooth is that your writing isn't confusing or suddenly doing some action without explanation. Think of it almost like this: If you read about pikachu walking straight at a tree you would expect him to hit into it, right? Well suppose you never even knew he was walking in the first place and suddenly Pikachu has hit into a tree. Well that doesn't make sense does it? How did Pikachu suddenly hit into a tree? Well that's exactly what I mean, you have to specify that pikachu was walking in order for the reader to know what is going on. The reader is completely BLIND. You need to keep this in mind. Only YOU know what is going on, it's your job as the writer to explain it in words so the reader knows too. The only way they can figure out what is going on is by listening to the information you are telling them. I try so hard to read fanfictions people write sometimes but I just can't because they aren't telling any information and I am almost making up the entire story on my own!

(2.) Emotions.

UGH I FREAKIN HATE YOU OH MY GOD. Oh hey gerald, how's the weather?
Ever seen somebody ACTUALLY act like this in real life? Well of course not! Not unless they either have some kind of mental issue or they are being completely unserious and sarcastic. So why write your characters acting that way? It makes no sense and thus makes your story unrealistic and hard to understand. I have seen so many times where people write their characters suddenly bursting into tears and then three seconds afterward, acting like it never happened. You need to think of emotions almost like mixing colors. When blue turns to red it doesn't suddenly just burst red right? No, it goes through a process of the color blending into a red. The same goes for emotions. You don't just suddenly go from sad to angry, the anger builds up and starts to overtake the sadness in a way, turning it to the feelings and thoughts of anger. So the next time you are about to make Markiplier suddenly go from crying to pissed at Jack, make sure to think about the process of emotions changing throughout your writing.

(3.) Stereotypes.

Think about your favorite character from the last video game or book you read. You probably explain them in great detail, knowing all the little things. Well that is also important in writing. People are complex and not simple, so why make them that way? Here's an example of Undyne. People see her as just a violent, warrior fish lesbian, that is in love with Alphys. While that is true, that isn't everything she is. She also plays the piano and mentors both Shyren and Papyrus. The more life and facts like this you add into your writing, the better it will be. The character or even the story will quickly become boring if you summarize your characters in it. Nobody is simple, everyone is complex in their own way; whether it be emotions, history, hobbies, likes and dislikes, and so many others. As long as you don't stereotype your characters in the writing, it will turn for the better.

(4.) Info bombs.

So this has a slight relation to the whole number three stereotype thing. Yes it is good to express them as an actual person and complex but don't just randomly drop information bombs. Don't suddenly have them randomly express their entire life story or emotions in one jumbled moment. The more you slowly feed your readers information about the characters the better. Say you were reading a fanfiction about light yagami where he is in a tight situation with many questions and fears you want to know about. If the writer of the said fanfiction suddenly just answered all the questions and fears just like that, it would be quite disappointing and make you uninterested of what to come next you know? You wouldn't be hooked and wouldn't have any reason to read any further. Everything was solved so, why go forward? This is the reason why suddenly dropping information (Unless it is the ending then go ahead haha) and solving all the questions can be bad. You have to have some kind of drive for your reader to keep going, a reason to be still interested in your work.

(5.) The way you write the story.

Have you ever seen a story well... written like this:

'Henry stopped his running and turned to the street lamp, breathing heavily. He rested his aching body against the pole as he lost himself in thought.

Sandra: Oh hey Henry! *Walks over*

Henry: Sup *Breathing heavy still*'

If you haven't read a story written like that before well then newsflash: They exist. May I add something else? They are incredibly hard to read I just- UGH. I realize stories like that can sometimes not even have a paragraph of text. Where the writer entirely writes the story like this:

'Trish: *Goes in the living room with new dress* H-How do you guys like it?

Gerald: .///. Oh uh, Trish that looks amazing on you...'

I even wrote a few myself, and they are pretty fun for just messing around. Although to actually try to write a serious story with a legit plot by using that kind of writing?! It just gets on my nerves! Sure you can use it to your advantage to planning out a story but to actually write it that way? *Eye twitch* I just- please. If you are not just making a simple 'ask questions and something something characters will answer' or a funny crack story, please for the love of sanity don't write it like that. It is so undescriptive and totally goes against number four and one.

(6.) Connect to it.

It really helps a story along if you put actual emotions and maybe even scenes or events from your actual life. It just makes the story more alive and makes it easier for readers to connect to it. It can even make your writing easier to write, since you have already experienced it. If you are writing about a heartbreak but never experienced heartbreak before, how are you to know the exact emotions the character feels? How are you to know how the character will act about it if you never experienced such things yourself? Well it makes it easier when it has happened to you and you already know the answers to these questions. You already know the kind of hurt it feels like, the kind of actions you take from a heartbreak. Thus you don't have to dwell too much on it and find yourself on an easy streak of writing.

(7.) Grammar.

so then luzy walked up to tagi and told him about the dress and dragged him into a store and made him buy her a dress and told him about her dog and he get angry and he not happy and- *Deep breaths*
Oh jeez... Looks like somebody doesn't know about run on sentences... or really, grammer at all? You don't have to be a total eighth grade english teacher about it, but please try to have some kind of grammar? I have come across quite a few fanfictions that either, consisted of just run on sentences, had too many spelling mistakes, and just made no sense at all. Even if you use a free grammar checker on the internet or something, please just try to have some kind of grammar? How are readers supposed to read what you are writing if they don't understand what's going on? Try to read your story out loud. If you come across a sentence that is too long and you have to take a breath just to read it completely, (Or if your sentence has two 'and's )you might need to shorten it. If you come across a word you don't know how to spell then just look it up or check a dictionary or thesaurus. If you neglect to add commas to places where there should be one, people might get the wrong idea. If you really have no clue then.. idk listen to this awesome song:

These are most of what I think of writing and how to write it. Sure you might disagree on my opinions on it but that's why it's MY opinion. Even though, I would still like to see how you think about writing and maybe even what you made for guidelines. I am genuinely curious and interested on what others have to say. :D

Well I hope you guys have a nice day and maybe even learned a thing or two? I don't know, but just know I wish you a good day! ^.^

~ <3 your author who probably just looks like an idiot
