Jhorstan: can you do a top 10 anime list?
DarkWings73: sure... 1 is best & it goes down from there. I'll include reasoning because my choices may not be congruent with what's trending today.
1) Code Geass
2) Tokyo Ghoul
3) Ouran High School Host Club
4) Erased
5) Akatsuki no Yona
6) Re:Zero
7) Seven Deadly Sins
8) Deadman Wonderland
9) Death Note
10) Sword Art Online / Gun Gale Online
Now don't get me wrong: I like Black Butler, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Psycho Pass, Angel Beats, Death Parade, Black Bullet, Akame ga Kill, Kuroko no Basket, Haikyuu, Parasyte the Maxim, My Hero Academia, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc - basically, all the trendy ones and class ones - but personally, I like mecha, strategy, and some good old classic violence.
And just a little bonus list: some anime that are so underappreciated it's ridiculous and you definitely shoulder watch them
>Arpeggio of the Blue Steel
>Legend of Legendary Heroes
>No Game No Life
Jhorstan: is there anything you would like to say to new writers who might be struggling?
DarkWings73: First - if you don't read, you can't write. Just a fact. And I'm not talking about reading fan fiction. I'm talking about picking up an actual book and opening to page one.
Also, I've been told that these online communities are supportive and whatnot. I wouldn't really know because I haven't reached out much, but I'm sure people would be open to helping. But please keep in mind that people like a two-way-street. They help you, and you help them. Reading or voting or commenting or something. It's basic capitalism.
Otherwise, just hang in there. Everyone has their own reason for writing. Personally, I have serious writing that I don't post because I want it to be published someday. The reason I'm here is because I, like pretty much everyone else, want to get reads, nice and encouraging comments, votes, followers, etc. I'm being totally honest here - I'm basically just writing to fulfill my own ego. But I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to have people read and like your work. If you're stuck in the boat of having written something but you aren't getting enough views, well, we've all been there. (Am still there.) So just hang in there. It takes a while for a story to start catching, and some of them just won't. It's sad that quality might get passed up just because someone else has more followers and gets more attention, but that's how all of these sites work, I guess.
Good luck to you and whoever else is in this boat!
And please, please, please read...it's a dying hobby and it's an extremely important one. If you need reading recommendations, see the Q&A on "Issues" on my collab account
