Victor of Year 135: Teff Rancourt [@1ceCream123]
Addicted to adrenaline.
★Character Name: Teff Rancourt
★Gender: Male
★Age: 34
★District: 7
★Physical Appearance: Teff's brown hair is messy and unkempt. Bits of it are missing where scars criss-cross his scalp, the effect giving his head a rather uneven look. His eyes are generally bloodshot, and their original color (green) has dulled and is now a pale imitation of what used to be. His skin is pale from staying inside, and there is not a square inch of his body that is not covered with nicks, scars, or scratches.
★Personality: Where Teff once used to be kind and helpful, desperation now fills the voids of his personality. His drug addiction has utterly destroyed whatever parts of his old self that could have been salvaged from the arena. Now, he cannot trust anyone, not even himself.
★Past: Teff was born into a family in the lower middle class in District Seven. His parents, like most others, had him working after school in the forest. There, he was handed an ax at the age of six, severely commanded not to impale himself, and expected to cut down at least two trees a day. He grew close to his older sister, Aria, after long, boring hours in the monotonous silence of the woods together.
When he was reaped, no one, including Teff, expected him to survive a day in the arena. Sure, he was tall, well-muscled, and handy with an ax, but there was also the time when, after finding a flattened squirrel on the road, he skipped school in order to hold a teary funeral for the poor animal. He brought flowers to its grave for a month until baseball season began and he forgot about the whole thing.
During the interview, he charmed the crowd with his self-degrading humor and humble personality, but quickly lost whatever sponsors he may have gained when he got a training score of five.
All too soon, the day of the games rolled around, and before he knew it, Teff was standing at the edge of the Cornucopia, the countdown booming in his ears. Teff had planned to skirt the Cornucopia by as far as he could in order to avoid the bloodbath, but as he heard his heart beating in his ears, the adrenaline coursing through his body, he made a split-second decision: to run straight for the supplies. Aria, watching, winced and covered her eyes, sure she would soon see her brother's face lighting the sky and his body carried away by a helicopter.
Needless to say, Teff survived. Not only that, but he managed to kill two people during the first 15 minutes of the game. He gathered supplies, then made his retreat. As he ran through the forest that first day, a single thought repeated itself in his mind again and again:
I'm done with being prey. Today, I am the hunter.
What followed were some of the most sensational games to date. Teff single-handedly took down the Careers, luring them away from the group and killing them one at a time. At the feast, he took not only his pack but used the others' most needed objects to lead them into a trap. In short, he was unstoppable. These were the best five days of his life.
Then, it ended. Teff returned home a victor, a hero, but not himself anymore. He wanted the feeling of excitement as he chased down his human game; no, he needed it. He craved the adrenaline, longed for the thrill. He tried all sorts of extreme sports, but none of them satisfied him. What was fake danger in a harness and helmet compared to the knowledge that, at any moment, your life could end?
And so, like many other victors before him, he turned to drugs, pushing away offers of help from friends and family. He grew isolated, spending months alone in his house, not even a maid to assuage his solitude.
★Strengths: Not afraid to kill or put himself in danger; excellent with an ax.
★Weaknesses: His muscles have atrophied over the years from disuse; doesn't quite trust himself; won't be good at making allies.
★Other: Teff is going to be really pissed off when his stylists at the Capitol insist on covering his scars with makeup.
