Victor of Year 129: Valentine Rachmaninoff [@yellowbillycat]
His own valentine left him long ago.
★Name: Valentine Rachmaninoff (rock-mun-in-hoff)
★Gender: Male
★Age: Forty-two
★District: Nine; Grain
★Physical Appearance: Even though he's in his early forties, Valentine still has the face of someone several years younger. His body maintains a reddish tint, which is mostly apparent in his hair and skin. Freckles dot his cheeks, nose, and lower neck, some of which are even visible underneath his newly-grown beard. He stands at 5'11 and has a reasonable amount of muscle for someone who has been involved in field labor his whole life.
★Personality: Although on the quieter side, Valentine is usually pleasant to be around. Occasionally, he has episodes where he won't talk to people and shuts himself out from the world, preoccupied with resurfacing memoirs that don't make any sense to him. Names and dates and sounds surround him constantly, but he can't piece them together in a coherent shape. He often has a solemn look plastered on his face, and he has a hard time separating reality from half-remembered images of trees and backpacks. Generally, though, he's a nice man, and he likes to spend time relaxing in the sun or playing with his nephew, Aaron.
★Past: Valentine was reaped when he was 17, and as a boy from one of the most impoverished districts in the country, odds of his survival were slim to none. He fled from the bloodbath on his first day with only a small pack and managed to scrape past the first week of the games without any interactions with the other tributes.
It was around the end of day nine when he encountered another tribute: the girl from Five, Nina. They struck up quite the friendship after a couple of hours, bonding over their families back home. That bond soon grew to be something more... romantic. Their alliance, albeit odd, seemed to work. That was, until, they ran out of food. Neither of them were from districts that encouraged hunting, and by the end of the second week, they were both on the verge of starving to death. When the feast was announced mere hours later, they looked at each other gravely. They both knew what had to be done. Neither of them were in any state to fight, but they had to for their own survival.
The feast was unlike anything in the history of The Hunger Games, with every tribute making an appearance. The final ten battled for the under-packed bags mercilessly until only five remained, including Valentine and Nina. In the end, she would be the second to die in the following battle. The boy from Two cared little for Valentine's screams and pleading, and neither did his katana. He would be the next to die, leaving only Valentine and the girl from Seven. Driven by rage and the need for revenge, he didn't hesitate to plunge his scythe into her throat.
When he arrived back in Nine, he was hailed as a hero, a sign that even the poorer districts could survive the horrors of the Hunger Games. Even with the support of his whole District, Valentine couldn't shut out the horrors of his ordeal. He spent his time trying to relax in the endless wheat fields of Nine, but his memories ended up confining him to his home, dictating his every motion, controlling his life. He wanted Nina back, and he wanted to forget the whole thing had ever happened.
And he did, weeks later. Some survivors of extreme trauma forget their experiences, and that's exactly what occurred; Valentine woke up one morning without the slightest memory of the games. The only thing he remembers is Nina's name, and the Rachmaninoff family swears that for the last twenty-five years he's been mumbling it his sleep.
★Strengths: Even though he's forgotten the experience, Valentine knows how to handle weapons, especially a scythe. Also, like most other citizens of the poorer districts, he's learned how to ration food to avoid hunger (a skill he should've learned long ago).
★Weaknesses: Unlike the rest of his competitors, Valentine will have no (remembered) experience of the games, leaving him in a state of extreme vulnerability.
★Other: Valentine is allergic to gluten, has a pet turtle named Ollie, and is comically awful at jigsaw puzzles.
