A Separate Path: The Neutral

The following two races have pledged themselves to Neutrality, refusing to take sides on the question of morality and satisfied with the status quo.

The Archons

The most alien of all magical races, it is difficult to guess at an archon's motivations (and few have been brave enough to ask.) Elemental spirits born directly from nature, they wield terrible power over their domain of influence- but they can die like any other.

Appearance: An archon of six feet tall is considered short, and the tallest stretch almost to eight. If they have hair at all, it is normally composed of their respective element. Their eyes are the same. Archons' voices seem to ring, especially when they speak in their native tongue, Primeval. Archons lack a biological sex, although most will assign themselves a gender based on personal preference or appearance.

Lifespan: Archons are born from great events or places in nature. Though some live only for days, many can endure for millennia without any apparent signs of age.

Culture: If such a thing as archon culture even exists, it is difficult to define. Many archons are perfectly satisfied existing in one area forever, apart from any living being, ignoring such petty things as national boundary. However, six archons (known as simply "The Eldest") wield especially great power and are acknowledged and respected by their peers. Besides these, there is little influence and contact among the archons, though they will sometimes travel and join with humans for the sake of curiosity.

Battle Capabilities: Archons have direct, potent power over their natural element (either fire, water, air, earth, wood, or ice.) Despite their intimidating appearance, however, they are not any stronger or faster than a human of their size.

The Archon Types

Archons of Flame: Flame Archons are born from events like wildfires and volcanoes. The Eldest Flame Archon is a volcanic entity known as Agni.

Archons of Water: Water Archons spring from seas, rivers, and other permanent, powerful water sources. The Eldest Water Archon is a deep-sea spirit called Nereus.

Archons of Stone: Archons of Stone or Earth are typically mountain or canyon spirits. The Eldest Stone Archon shares a name and identity with Mount Geb, the tallest mountain in Aimsir.

Archons of Wind: Wind Archons live on storm and pressure, moving from place to place as the wind changes. The Eldest Wind Archon is a storm archon named Thiassi.

Archons of Ice: Born from glaciers and blizzards, Ice Archons thrive on the cold and dark. The Eldest Ice Archon is a glacial being named Ymir.

Archons of Forest: Forest or Wood Archons can come from a single copse of trees or a vast, biome-wide ecosystem. The Eldest Forest Archon is called Cernunnos.

The Fae

The strange, beautiful race known as the Fae (called Sidhe in their own language) only finds constancy in chaos. The three Fae Courts, one good, one evil, and one neutral, average out to neutrality within the species- though it has a great deal of deviation from this norm.

Appearance: Every Fae is inhumanly lovely unless they actively attempt to not be so, with pointed ears and strange, cat-like pupils. Fae of the Seelie Court have green irises, while the Unseelie's are blue and the Wyldfae's are yellow.

Lifespan: A typical Fae lives to between 800-1000 years old. However, they can appear to be whatever age they please at any given time.

Culture: The Fae Courts live in the large, long forest on the eastern side of Aimsir's northern continent. No human kingdom will claim this territory; even the rashest general has enough sense to fear the wrath of the Queens. Northern forests generally fall more under the influence of the Unseelie Court, while southern climes tend to lean towards Seelie. Each Court possesses a central city grown from the forest itself. If one is truly fortunate, it is possible for a human to see the wild, natural sprawl of a Fae city. Unfortunately, the inhabitants tend to view humans as toys and games. "Fairy" is considered a highly offensive slur.

Battle Capabilities: The Fae possess a wide variety of illusions and mental magics that give them unrivaled talent at deception, spying, and intrigue. Though incapable of lying, most Fae have mastered the art of saying one thing and meaning another, without an actual falsehood being uttered. Their weapons are slender, elegant blades of copper or flint-tipped arrows from flawless bows. The touch of iron is intensely painful to them.

The Fae Courts:

The Seelie Court: Headed by The Midsummer Queen, the Seelie Court is generally the most benevolent towards humans, sometimes allowing them to stay as honored guests for years at a time. Members of the Seelie Court are able to turn invisible for short periods of time.

The Unseelie Court: The Queen of Air and Darkness rules these hostile, unruly Fae with an iron fist and icy heart. To meet the eyes of an Unseelie Fae is highly dangerous- they can paralyze anyone who does so for as long as they keep eye contact.

The Wyldfae: The Wyldfae are those Sidhe that do not affiliate themselves with either Seelie or Unseelie Courts. They tend to be ambivalent towards humans, and can change into small animals at will. However, they keep their yellow eyes when they do so.
