Task Three Entries: Goddesses

Persephone Pluton

Persephone and the god with the name she could never say had been captured by the mortal police. Queen Persephone had tried every method she could think of to get out of it. She threatened the police, attempted to intimidate them with her sheer cold-hearted majesty, and shouted at the police. She even shouted at Ko'lhamana and Springtime, not that that did any good.

Ko'lhamana simply shrugged and ignored her.

Springtime, of course, burst into tears. Springtime was so upset about the whole situation ("I can't go to jail, Queenie! Do you know what happens to people like me in jail!? I bet you they don't even have any flowers in their courtyard. It's probably just dirt and rocks and sad things and no flowers!") that she had taken control of Persephone's body by the time they reached the prison.

The guards had to carry her to her cell, Ko'lhamana trailing peacefully behind.

Once they locked the door behind her, her wails grew to decibels that shouldn't even be humanly possible. She sat on the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks and falling into her lap.

"Springtime, for the love of Hades, shut up!" Queen insisted from within Persephone's mind.

"I-I-I c-ca-an't!" Springtime gasped between sobs. "I-I w-want to g-g-go h-home! I d-don't li-like jail!"

"Well neither do I, but seriously! Will you ever figure out that crying solves nothing? The only way to get home is to get out of here and win the stupid competition!" Queen sighed.

Ko'lhamana was sitting on a cot, humming a familiar pop-song cheerfully.

"Why aren't you c-crying?" Persephone asked him, wiping at her red eyes.

Ko'lhamana shrugged. "They'll let us to eventually."

"But what if they don't?" Persephone fretted, her eyes wide.

Ko'lhamana shrugged again.

Persephone's wails resumed, and when a guard came to tell her to shut up, the normally friendly Springtime took off one of her sandals and threw it at him. It hit his temple and he winced. To her shock, it hurt her too. "Ow?" she muttered in confusion, feeling the sore spot on her head.

"Oh!" Queen Persephone gasped. She was smarter than her Spring side, and she was able to put it together more quickly. "Springtime! Give me control of the body, I can get us out!"

"But I c-can't s-s-stop cryi-ing," Persephone sniffled.

"Please, Springtime! Please!"

"I c-can't! I'm sorry!" Her sobs got louder and more forceful. She could never do anything right. Never, never. Queen was so much better than her.

"Oh, fine then," Queen sighed angrily. "You'll have to do it then. Spring, I need you to summon as big a vine as you can. Use it to knock the guard unconcious and knock the cell door open. You have to do it in one blow. It will knock you out too, but tell Ko'lhamana and he might help. He doesn't seem like a problem, so maybe if we're lucky he won't kill us. Do it now!"

Springtime stood on shaking legs. Breathing heavily with tears still falling, she glanced over her shoulder at the other god. "Carry me please," she said. Before he could ask what she was talking about, she turned her attention back to the guard, raised her arms, and summoned a massive vine. It smashed up through the cement floor with a loud crash, flailing and whipping violently. It collided with the guard, knocking him against the wall, then it slammed down on the cell door.

The guard fell to the ground unconscious, and Persephone did as well.

"Hm. You did alright, Springy." Queen noted.

Then Persephone's mind went blank.

Nyx

In the midst of my fight with Balder they came.

Breaking up our fight, the humans grabbed us. Bewildered, I tried to break away.

"What? What are you doing?" I gasped out. How dare they touch me? Don't they know what kind of demonish creatures hide in the night? Don't they realise I could send all of them after them?

"Don't try to fight," muttered Balder. "It'll only make things worse."

He, in comparison to me, was completely calm, almost calculating.

The men surrounding me shoved me into one of the nasty, small, smelly machines the humans insisted on taking everywhere, with Balder being sent into a different one.

At least we're not stuck together.

The thought proved fatal as, once we were in a building where the humans kept criminals, I was shoved into a room behind bars - where Balder had already made himself at home.

Involuntarily, a hiss came out of my mouth. Being in such close contact with Balder, now that he'd had a chance to gather strength, was excruciatingly painful. Before I could spin around and fade into the shadows in order to flee - oh, how far I have fallen, considering fleeing - the metal bars behind me slammed shut.

No.

I pressed myself into a corner, gathering shadows around me. The humans were speaking but I heard nary a word, so focus I was trying to put as much space as physically possible between myself and Balder's light.

Balder moved closer to me. instantly, I dove for the metal platform that I assumed humans used to sleep, judging by the soft cloth on top of it.

"I'm not going to kill you," Balder pointed out.

I stubbornly shook my head and pressed myself closer to the wall underneath the platform. It was nice and dark in here, cool. Small burns that had appeared from close contact with Balder were rapidly fading, taking some of my strength with them.

"No, I'm serious. It wouldn't be right. And it would make even more of a mess than we are currently in." Balder paused. "We need a way out of here."

"Then find one," I snapped.

"Well, I guess I could try to..." he began mumbling to himself as I continued healing.

"You know, you could help me," Balder said after a few minutes.

"And die in a fiery blaze? No thank you," I snorted, trying to heal my pride now.

"You Darkies are so useless," Balder sighed.

"Hey, light is much more potent than Dark right now," I snapped.

"No it's not; it's much easier for darkness to creep. You wouldn't even notice it. It has nothing to do with who is stronger but has everything to do with you being too lazy to help."

Pure rage filled me. I slithered out from underneath the bed, my dress now more shadows and darkness than cloth.

"Good. Now. Get that man over here somehow," Balder suggested. At least, that's how I took it. I would never let anyone command me,

In seconds, I managed to fade away completely into the hidden shadows in the corner. The whole building grew dark as a result.

Balder made noise by kicking the metals bars, drawing the man's attention.

"Hey, don't be-what? Where's the other one?"

Balder shrugged and continued kicking the metal bars. "No idea. She jsut...vanished."

The man got up and marched over to the bars. "You think you're funny?"

"No," Balder said with a straight face. "But I think you are."

He shined light in the man's eyes, causing him to instinctively cover them. Sill humans, always going on instinct, even when it would do more harm than good.

Balder pulled the man closer and, when he began to remove the hands covering his face, Balder shone more light, effectively distracting him. The man started to cry out, but before much noise could be made, Balder shoved him back, hard. The man went down, arms windmilling at the unexpected motion. I wince as his head hit the ground. Hopefully he wasn't dead; humans were such fragile things.

"What did you do?" I whispered.

"Stole his keys."

"Give them to me. My arms are longer and thinner."

Balder readily gave them to me; how silly. How would he know I wouldn't just take the keys and run?

I eased my arm through the opening in the bars and carefully felt for the keyhole. Keyholes and I were old friends.

It was a very awkward angle and I wondered for a moment if I should break my arm partially to manage, but before that thought could go any farther, I managed to fit the key into the lock.

"There," I said triumphantly, pushing the door open. For some reason. I allowed Balder to go through free.

"We'll need your shadows to get out safely," Balder murmured. I could see his light withdrawing deep inside of him. Well, as deep as any God could bury his magic. Just enough for mine to be stronger.

I eased the shadows around myself and Balder, hearing him hiss as they made contact with his skin.

"Quickly now," he muttered.

We managed to leave the building with little problem. Once we were a sufficient distance away, I dropped the shadows.

Balder moved away from me and said one word.

"Run."

Athena Vincita

It was the plan that had made Athena think twice about the ways she could kill her foe. Across the cell from where she had been placed, Bast sat casually against the wall. Athena never liked prisons, especially not after that run-in in 1866… Therefore, when Bast snapped her out of her thoughts of how many ways she could disembowel Bast, she was, of course, open ears. It was a habit.

“You know, one of us should pretend to be dead. Get the guards in here and then make a run for it, destroy a few things on the way out. The works.”

Athena was excited. It gave her the chance to ‘kill’ her foe but maybe she would also get to kill her in actuality once they got out. “Alright, Bastet, you’ll play dead.”

“Great.”

The plan went well. Athena screamed, the guards came running, and while they were hovering over Bast, she took the opportunity to ambush the, take their keys, and grab Bast and run. She made sure to lock the door, and as they ran through the corridors Bast made her way to where their belongings were stowed.

“Listen, this is the only time I’ll be nice. You and I are basically the same deities, which just doesn’t work. Well, not really, but you get the picture. I’ll give you a minute to get out before it’s free game. Go.”
