Task One: Checking In
A sigh carried over the lobby of the Hotel Rosette. With both legs swung over the counter ledge and butt scooted back, Timon sat watching the hotel's guests wander in and out. The activity was as exciting as watching the hotel's furniture gather dust, considering there wasn't a customer in sight. The last check-in two hours ago had been a worn down man with a rough smile and a good sized gut on him that had asked for the hourly rate, as most people did when checking in on Monday afternoon. The younger male following him had given the picture away better, but Timon was no longer surprised by this sort of thing. What happened inside the walls of the decaying building was to stay within them, though sometimes the spirits tended to stay too long.
The receptionist cocked his head up, leaning forward just enough to catch a glimpse of the balcony above. As usual, Oliver was keeping busy. He always had something to do, which inside a venue with no customers was rather impressive. Timon could never find enough to fill the time. He stretched his neck further, fingers gripping the edge of the back counter to try and get the attention of the ghost above only to slip from his seat. With a panicked kick, Timon smeared the dirt-covered sole of his tennis shoe on the guestbook and bashed his head into the rack of keys behind him.
A loud clattering of metal echoed out as several dislodged from their hooks and spilled onto the counter and carpet below. Hissing in pain, Timon jumped down to the ground to asses the mess before him. A dozen or so of the room tags lay in a scattered jumble, one that undoubtedly would fall on him to clean up. For months he'd been saying they should get keycards, every other hotel had keycards nowadays. This, this was just tacky, but Timon had given up asking. There were no revisions to be made to the Hotel Rosette. Nothing ever changed.
The Task
Alright, it's time to get this thing started! If you didn't already know (which how would you not, you signed up for this?) this is Author Games: Hotel! If you're here against your will, blink twice. Otherwise, let's get started.
The first task should be rather free-range in terms of requirements. For those of you who took a Guest spot, all you have to do is mention or reference the Hotel in some way, shape, or form. Whether this is you actually showing your character checking in for the first time, browsing what I'm sure is a mediocre review on Tripadvisor, or simply having your character decide it's time for a sunny vacay in California is up to you! Do keep in mind, though, that by next task your characters should already know of and be checked into one of the glorious rooms. As for those of you Residents, whether you're doomed here for all eternity or stopping by for a brief snack, you have two options. The first is to give me their background. For vampires that means the first time they tasted sweet, sweet blood or got bitten (it depends on the lore you're following I supposed), and for ghosts the experience that turned them into ghosts whether that's murder, or, well, most of you chose murder. Won't that be pleasantly traumatic to write? The other option is less gruesome, however, in which I'm giving you a chance to write an ordinary day in the hotel for any of them, whether they mess with the Rosette's paying clients or tend to wander the halls in agony is for you to decide.
Word Limit
No word limit, but don't count on that continuing.
Ballots
Will be happening next task. For now settle down, get to know the other guests, order room service perhaps?
