Character Form: Meili Shang
Username: Several7s
Name: Meili Shang is the name her parents gave her, but the Hun that kidnapped her renamed her Khenbish (Khen for short) and she doesn't know her real name
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: Khen looks much like her mother, with dark brown eyes and long black hair. Her skin is tan and her hands calloused from constant work. She's become strong from years of hard work, but thin from lack of proper nutrition.
Backstory: Khen's parents, Mulan and Li Shang, had been married for about a year when they had her. Six months later, she disappeared without a trace. Mulan and Shang searched desperately for their child, but she was gone. A hun- one of Shan Yu's men- had stolen her in an act of revenge for his leader's death. Instead of killing her and leaving her corpse for her parents to find, he instead took her with him to Mongolia, leaving her parents to wonder and worry. He didn't know Meili's name, so he gave her a new one: Khenbish, meaning nobody. He told Khen that he'd rescued her from wolves after her parents left her to die and said she was lucky. She never felt lucky. She grew up beaten down at every turn. Constantly abused, especially by the men, treated like a slave, and always called worthless, her faith in the world broke. She came to believe she was nobody- just a slave to be abused and broken by anyone with more power than her. Her life was one of never-ending menial labor, not enough food, and too much attention from the men. Her beauty became a curse and she often wished she would just die. She thought about running away and tried several times, but they always dragged her back and punished her severely for it. In the back of her mind, she always wondered what she did to deserve such a life. Eventually, she gave up on anything getting better and just tried her best to stay out of trouble.
Personality: She's quiet and subservient. She'll address everyone as sir or ma'am and do her best to show respect to everyone around her, no matter how much she might loath them. She hates quietly and plans her revenge similarly, though she never executes said plans. Her life is driven by the fear of doing something wrong and getting punished, so she strives for perfection. She's constantly jumpy, nervous, and looking over her shoulder. She hates that men consider her pretty and constantly does what she can to hide that beauty.
Magic/Powers: N/A
Weapon Of Choice: The only weapon she's ever gotten her hands on was a small knife meant for cutting meat. She loved how it felt in her hands- the brief moment when she felt she could take on anything that came at her. The huns took the knife back and punished her for stealing it, but deep down, she still wants to feel the weight of it in her hands again.
Strengths: She's physically strong from years of work and good at most kinds of labor, from cooking to constructing houses. She's also a fast runner and has a pretty high pain threshold.
Weaknesses: She never gets enough to eat, so she's constantly malnourished, which doesn't help her situation since she's overworked constantly. Despite all her attempts to be perfect, she tends to be clumsy and breaking things is a bad habit of hers. The huns would give a long list of her worst attributes, but the one thing she's told constantly is that she talks back too much. This, of course, leads to her not speaking up for herself. Her fighting spirit has been buried deep, deep within her and she plans to never allow it to surface again, because it just gets her into trouble. Really, if someone were going to hurt her, she wouldn't call for help, she would just accept it like always.
Captured: The army was celebrating a victory and everyone was drinking. Something about the night instilled a thirst for freedom in her. Before she could question her decision, she ran. No one was paying attention and no one noticed. She figured she had until morning to get as far away as possible. Things didn't work out as planned and the army was on her tail shortly after the sun rose. She took shelter in a cave as they were closing in and tried to hide. They found her and were closing in to drag her back when a portal appeared. She didn't question it- she just jumped through, praying no one would follow her. It closed behind her and left her in the middle of a battle against dragons. She did the smart thing and got as far away from it as she could.
Greatest Fear: She petrified of men. After being mistreated by them so much, her trust in men is broken and if she had the choice, she would be perfectly happy living her life without ever seeing another guy again.
Insecurities: The huns have convinced her that she's just one drop in an ocean- a nobody. She's worthless and only lives because they were kind enough to save her after her parents abandoned her. She believes she'll never be anything more than a thing to be trampled to anyone and approaches life and people as such.
Loved Ones: She believes she has no one, but Mulan and Shang still search for her, despite 18 long years.
Realm They're From: China, though she lives and travels with the Huns in their army.
Fandom They're From: Disney's Mulan
Token: The white half of a yin and yang necklace. She found it when she was cleaning one day, tucked into a little box with the blanket she'd been wrapped in when the Hun stole her. It was a piece of her home and perhaps her parents too, so she took it and kept it. If anyone noticed, they never said anything.
Anything Else: She's far from all bark and no bite, if she can get away with it.
