Elusia Nine: Lark Soren [@SpiderString]
I have known hate, and I have known fear. Two beings with the same face.
♔Name: Lark Soren
♔Gender: Female
♔Age: 21
♔Birthplace: Not sure, but grew up and resides in Migolith, Elusia
♔Physical Appearance: In the corners and the shadows you will find Lark. She stands there, cold, thin and wraithlike. With her height of 6' 2", she towers above most people. Her body is more than thin; it has been left her a scene of ruin, a being of bone and skin, by the famine that ravaged her kingdom. Once she had been strong and Lyth, a force to be reckoned, now her hair is thin and her limbs weak. But not all of it is from the famine. Lark gives the appearance of someone who caught up in their own mind, filled with secrets but without the courage to speak them. Her eyes are wide, shifting, unable to meet the gaze of others. Her white hair is unbrushed and unwashed, pulled back in a back in a bun without a thought, unkempt whisps escaping to cling to her neck and cheeks. Her lips are chapped and her cheeks pale. Her long thin hands are constantly fidgeting with her clothes; red bite marks evident upon her pale skin. She is like a ghost, a bone, lifeless. Yet in her eyes, there is an undeniable steel that lets people know not to mess with her.
♔Personality: Lark barely ever speaks her mind, but when she does it comes off cold and aggressive. Because of this people have tended to not talk to her. Only the people close to her are able to look past her faults and treat her normally.
Despite her unfriendly outward appearance Lark is not an unkind person. She loves children, and any genuinely good-hearted and pure person, become incredibly attached to them when she finds them. But for everyone else, she feels nothing but distrust. She is afraid of people with authority or strong, confident personalities, but even stronger than her suspicion of others is her distrust of herself. She is always caught up in her own thoughts, sometimes unable to think of anything else, which frightens he greatly. When she's not absorbed in her own mind, she is incredibly observant and will sometimes obsess over specific details for ages after she's seen it.
♔Background: Lark was born to Rustabin Soren, the head guard at Migolith. She never knew her mother. All her father ever told Lark about her was that she had come to him out of the woods with Lark in her arms then left with the shadow of night, never to be seen again. It wasn't long after then that the people of Migolith began to notice that something was different about Lark. She would never sleep, never eat. As she grew, strange occurrences began to happen around her. Candles would go out. Glass would break. Children would awake with bites on their skin and complain of something pulling at their hair. People said that it was dark magic, that Lark was part devil, that she was cursed and fairies were hunting her. After the rumors spread people wouldn't watch her for her father, they banned her from schools and shops, and there was even talk of sending her out of Migolith. For her childhood Lark was feared and hated. All that changed when her father married a women named Marigold when Lark was ten. Marigold was the sweetest person she had ever met and shown Lark more love and kindness than anyone ever had and Lark adored her. With Marigolds help Lark was placed in school and was taught to ignore the fear people showed to her.
Then the visions came.
Lark was fifteen when she had the first one, visions of people dead or dying, scenes of war in places she knew and dreams of strange words and faces. No one knew what it could be causing it. Prophecies? A curse? There we no clear answers. All Lark could do was learn to live with the visions as best she could and ignore the hateful words and glances shot her way. To help cope with her fear of the visions her father put her into knight training. Where for a while it helped, and the visions came only in dreams at night. Then when she was nineteen, they returned with full force. Driving Lark close to insanity. She stopped her training, afraid that the dead people she saw were created by her hand.
Then the famine came, killing both Marigold, her father, and her two young half-siblings. Leaving Lark alone with her visions.
♔Skills: In her knight training Lark showed a particular skill in fast footwork and close range dagger skills. She also got some basic healing teachings from Marigold as well as the ability to make a delicious winterberry pie.
♔Other: Bites herself to keep herself attached to reality when visions hit her.
