Elusia Five: Josias O'Hannagain [@-Raven-]

"A thousand paths lead nowhere—I'll find the happy ending, and I'll meet you there."

Character Name: Josias O'Hannagain

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Birthplace: Fallholt, Elusia

Physical Appearance: It's perhaps noteworthy that Josias typically keeps himself clothed. Preferring practicality over formality means he exchanges his uniform for something from home as often as life permits, which typically points towards worn leather boots and fading linen in shades of green and blue. If his hair is neat while on duty, it's messy in his downtime by way of sweat, or galloping over the speed limit, or by the hands of a 5'6 girl who ambushed him in the hallway. His eyes are, by a work of coincidence, only a shade darker than his adoptive father's—greyish blue, skewed towards an ashy sapphire. Lean and toned, most of his muscular strength lies in the arms and back, making him strong enough to scale a wall and light enough to do it quickly.

Personality: Josias does not quite make a good traditional knight. Over his two years of formal training, it's become clear he'll never quite hold himself like one. Neither elegant in humility nor arrogant in pride, his Fallholt compassion, healer's soft heart and playful affection that even a visor can't repress take a huge jab at professionalism. Josias has always been half knight and half healer. His regal facade seems to slip off as long as he isn't standing still, and he's the first to mess his hair up after a long day. Something about the lacking discipline and manner of speech has given him a wild air, but he's never appeared rebellious. He obeys every spoken rule and periodically breaks unspoken ones, often without the intention. Though he can be an out-of-the-box thinker, one wouldn't go so far as to say he's creative. Being given the space to explore as a child has made him more experimental. He's used to making up for his weaknesses by finding ways around them and is more willing to take risks, unlikely to overthink and unafraid to deal with the drawbacks of necessary choices. He breaks out of structure with simple plans that barely reference recorded techniques or strategies but sometimes turn out effective because of it. Quite ironically, he's excellent at following orders. Being a knight raised by himself just means that he carries them out...differently.

Background: Once upon a time, Josias might've been someone else, but he's long outgrown whatever that was meant to be. Before the age of one, he was found and adopted by a herbalist and his wife and raised as their own in Fallholt. Since then, he's grown seamlessly into his new skin, living the only-child adventures of a town boy and poring over his father's herbal from cover to cover. At the age of five, he lost his mother to an illness they were unable to cure, after which he and his father lived alone in their house near the outskirts of town where space was abundant enough for a rebellious goat and a terrorised herb garden to coexist. Josias grew up with a lasting fascination for plants and their respective remedies, though even as a child he pursued his idealistic dream of knighthood, sword-fighting wooden posts with a stick and having enough bravado to attempt self-taught horse riding. Eventually, he left town at the age of eighteen to receive formal training, where his shaky foundation in the skill set has proven to be a constant challenge and an interesting blessing.

Skills: Having a way with animals besides the family goat, Josias' raw skill on horseback has allowed formal training to mould him into a sure-handed rider. This, coupled with a crossbow as his preferred weapon and the niche skill of climbing means his strengths are strongly tapped on during stealth missions. On a slightly unrelated note, he has as much medical knowledge as one can gain from being his father's son.
