5 Seconds of Summer or 5SOS for short are a modern Australian pop punk/ pop rock band formed in 2011. Despite their portrayal as a boy band in the media due to their tour with One Direction, they do not identify themselves as a boy band. 5SOS write a lot of their own songs, play their own instruments, and they are not much of a dance group unlike many other boybands. 5SOS have however gained a massive female following very similar to boy bands.

The band consists of:

Luke Hemmings : Lead singer and rhytmn guitarist

Michael Clifford: Lead guitarist and vocals

Calum Hood: Bassist and vocals

Ashton Irwin: Drummer and vocals.

The band started out with Hemming's Youtube channel. He along with Hood and Clifford sang covers and uploaded them online. Later Irwin would join them and so the quartet was completed.

  By late March 2014 the single She Looks So Perfect was released in UK. It reached number one position. Despite it only being their for one day 5 Seconds of Summer became  one of the four Australian bands to have a UK number-one single.

Their music is a combination of 90s and 2000s pop with main influences being Green Day, blink-182, My Chemical Romance and All Time Low. The Rolling Stone magazine called them "emo-gone-pop."

Although their influence isn't so big on the Aussie music scene their international influence is evident. With their self titled debut album peaking #1 in 13  countries, making them the first Australian to achieve a number-one album with their debut album.

2015 lead to their second studio album Sounds Good Feels Good debuted at #1 in over 5 countries.  5 Seconds of Summer became the first band  to have their first two full-length albums debut at number one in the US.

Sounds Good Feels Good included the single Jet Black Heart. The Jet Black Heart  video featured fans.

In 2016 they released their next single Girls Talk Boys  which was included in the Ghostbusters (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).

They are now currently working on their new album which is set to be released sometime 2017.
