Chapter Three: The Train
AURORA'S POV
It was almost 11:00. It was September 1st and I was told to run into the barrier between platforms nine and ten to go to platform 9 3/4. That was how I was supposed to get to Hogwarts. I was super nervous that I would just run into a wall. Who wouldn't be right?
here goes I thought before running straight for the wall. I expected to hit solid wall, but instead, to my surprise, I fell through, as if the wall was just an optical allusion.
I walked onto the train and sat down in a empty compartment. Not to long after I sat down, a boy my age with messy black hair, green eyes, that was quite tall and skinny (like, unhealthy skinny) came in.
"Hi, I'm Aurora, what's your name?" I asked, hoping maybe, just maybe, I would have one friend at Hogwarts, although I doubted it.
"Harry Potter" he replied as he sat down. Then another boy walked into our compartment. He was also tall and skinny, but not as skinny as the boy named Harry. He had bright red hair, not unlike mine.
He pointed to the seat across from Harry. "Anyone sitting there? Everywhere else is full" he asked, and me and Harry both said "Yes" at the same time. He sat down in between me and Harry and introduced himself.
"I'm Ron. Ron Weasley, that is."
"Hi Ron, I'm Aurora."
"Hi Aurora."
"I'm Harry Potter"
"You're really Harry Potter?" Ron asked incredulously.
"And have you really got the... You know..." He pointed at Harry's forehead.
Harry pulled back his bangs to show a lighting scar. Ron stared at it. "So that's where You-Know-Who--?" He trailed off.
" Yes", said Harry, "But I don't remember it."
"Nothing?" asked Ron eagerly.
"Well, I remember a lot of green light, but nothing else."
Just then, a cart came in with candy and stuff like that in it. The person pushing the cart asked us if we wanted anything.
Ron said "No thanks, I have a sandwich" while holding up a smooshed sandwich, right before Harry took out some wizarding money and said,
"We'll take the lot." Harry said.
She gave him some of each thing, and he shared with both Ron, and me.
"Thanks" I said after he gave me some; surprised that he did.
We started talking, about things, like our lives, and got to know each other better.
A little more time passed and the door to our compartment opened once again. Three boys came into our compartment; one was obviously the leader in front with slicked back white-blond hair and pale skin. The other two were bigger than him.
"So the rumors are true, Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts. This is Crabbe, and Goyle, and I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." After he said this, Ron snickered. "Think my name is funny, do you? No need to ask yours, red hair and a hand-me-down robe. You must be a Weasley." Ron looked hurt after he said this, but Draco Malfoy continued on. "You will soon find some wizarding family's are better than others Potter. I can help you there." He put his hand out as he said that, no doubt he was trying to shake Harry's hand.
"I think I can figure out the wrong type for myself, thanks" Harry replied.
"Whoa, whoa, guys, no need to be rude. Harry, I know your childhood has been rough, but that's no reason to take it out on" I paused for a second, remembering his name. "Draco. And Draco, no need to be rude either... If that's what you were trying to do. Although there is nothing wrong with red hair. I have red hair, and I'm not a Weasley. And there's nothing wrong with hand-me-downs either. I'm Aurora, by the way."
"Aurora, ...?"
"Yes?" I replied.
"Your last name?" He asked impatiently.
"Oh... Nettles"
"Nettles. Good, a mudblood giving me lecture would make it even worse. And I can say whatever I want"
"Mudblood? What does tha- never mind, I don't want you to have to waste your time explaining wizard things to me. You can sit down with us." I said pointing to the seat next to me.
"A Malfoy? Sit with us?" Ron asked in a voice that stated he obviously didn't want him to.
"Ron" I said in a threatening voice whilst glaring at him.
"Have you heard your friends? They're out of control. Maybe you're the one who needs better friends"
"I'm sorry if that offended you. I'm not good at making friends. " I said sincerely. "Well, I should probably start reading some of these books, since I'm obviously just annoying you." I took out my copy of A History of Magic.
"Your apologizing to him?!?" Ron asked in a raged voice. "He was the one being rude to you! Not the other way around, he's the one who should apologize!"
I answered calmly, "It's fine Ron, he doesn't need to apologize for anything that he said to me. And yes, I do have to apologize because it seems I've offended him." I looked back down at the book, wishing I could be friends with all of them, at least Ron, Harry, and Draco, and that they would all get along, but I was pretty sure that wasn't going to happen.
"You were just being nice and offering a seat, he shouldn't be offended"
"And he said one thing, maybe you shouldn't be so against him" I snapped. I suddenly realized that he Draco was the one I accidentally bumped into leaving Madam Malkin's Robes for All occasions, and I hoped he didn't realize too; if he did he didn't say anything.
"He's a Malfoy, Aurora"
"I know. Where you not paying any attention? He introduced himself"
"I don't know who the Malfoy's are, but he's not being very nice, I agree with Ron " Harry said. Draco started to leave,
"Bye Draco, see you later" I said.
"If your lucky" Draco replied, then walked all the way out of the compartment, closing the door behind him.
I went back to reading my book, but Ron didn't want to let it go. "I know your trying to be nice to everyone, but Malfoy, just don't talk to him, okay?"
"I can talk to whoever I want. But I will keep what you said in mind. So, want to play hangman?" I said, changing the subject.
"That sounds dangerous" Ron pointed out, and Harry nodded in agreement.
I laughed. "You guys have never played hangman?"
"Must be something only played in the muggle world" Ron said.
"I didn't get out much."
"Well I guess I'll have to explain it to you" I pulled out a notebook and pen. Ron looked amazed at the sight.
"Ok, so I'll go first, but before that I'll tell you how to play, so first..." I explained the game to them, and then we started playing. The word I chose was "friendship".
After awhile, the word looked like this, fr__n_sh_p. And they almost lost. But then Harry figured it out.
"Oh, I think I know, is it friendship?" He asked excitedly.
"Ding ding ding, Harry Potter has won it for his team" I laughed then said, "That's what I want with you th- you guys" I corrected myself from saying the three of you, because I didn't want us to have another argument about Draco Malfoy.
"We already have it" said Harry"
"Yeah, mate" agreed Ron.
"That's good, I was worried that I wouldn't make any friends. I guess I was was wrong, and I got good ones too."
" Thanks, mate" said Ron beaming.
"It's true"
Ron got out his wand and pointed it at his rat, Scabbers. "I know a spell that will turn him yellow if it works, and I'm sure it will."
Then a girl with bushy brown hair came into the compartment, asking if we had seen a toad named Trevor that belongs to a boy named Neville.
When she, saw Ron, she asked, "Doing magic? Let's see it then."
Ron said the spell to turn Scabbers yellow, but nothing happened.
"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it?" She said the last part more as a statement than a question, and Ron blushed. "I've tried a few simple spells just for practice and it's all worked for me. Nobody in my family magic at all, it was such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it's the very best school of witchcraft there is, I've heard — I've learned all our course books by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough — I'm Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?" She said this all very fast.
Harry and Ron exchanged some sort of look, but I didn't know what it meant, so I ignored it, and introduced myself.
"My name is Aurora Nettles, nice to meet you"
"Likewise" she looked at Harry and Ron, waiting for them to introduce themselves, most likely.
"Ron Weasley"
"Harry Potter"
" Are you really?-"
"Yeah" he stated, questioningly.
"So, Hermione, want to sit with us? We still have an empty seat." I invited.
The two boys groaned.
"Thanks for the invite, and I would, but I have to help Neville find his toad. I'll see you later sometime, I'm sure, especially if we get sorted into the same house."
"Okay, see you later" Then I turned to Harry and Ron, "We should probably get changed, I think we'll be there soon" I went to the bathroom and got changed, and no sooner than twenty seconds after I got back, the train stopped. We were told to get off the train, and that our luggage would be brought to our dorms.
A/N: I'm starting other other fan fictions, so it might take a little while to update. Plus, I procrastinate sometimes. My 'friend' wrote the description, not me. The world of Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling, and I'm not JK Rowling, obviously.
