The Second Beginning
"Hi." A voice says shyly as I look up from my computer. The voice belongs to a pretty girl with a baggy jacket and a frog button down shirt tucked into cuffed high waisted jeans, and the most stunning umber eyes I have ever seen.
"Hey, what can I help you with?"
"I was just wondering what you were writing." She blushes, as she sits in the booth across from me.
"Oh, just a memory from last year. It's nothing."
"How mysterious," her eyebrows are raised.
"It's just a story about an ex girlfriend."
"What was she like?" I have to give her props: I do not know anyone who can flirt while asking about a person's ex but whatever she is doing is working.
"She had been my best friend for years, but when we went on a trip to Paris we fell in love. Or at least I did. I think she did too, but probably not as much as I did. But she was stunning, and extraordinarily smart. Seriously, you could ask her any question and she'd be quick to answer. I always admired that about her."
"So, what happened?" She quickly adds, "if you don't want to answer that's totally fine. Forgive me, my curiosity often gets the best of me."
"We both go to different schools. We stayed in touch for the first few months, but I think we both knew it wasn't meant to last. It really hurt then, but it was for the best."
I do not know why I tell her this. Something about her makes it so easy to open up. She orders an iced coffee and flirts with such utter confidence it is mesmerizing. I end up learning her name is Quia.
We talk for hours, and time seems irrelevant. She goes to the same school. She has two brothers and a sister. Her dads are the kindest people she knows. She has a family dog and a lizard, and she is sad she had to leave them when she went to school. Her favorite movie is Notting Hill. She is majoring in aviation and aeronautics, which is something she has wanted to study ever since she was little. Her favorite animals are frogs.
Soon enough it is time to part ways. We say our goodbyes and before she walks off she says, "If you ever want to study or just hang out, let me know!" With that, she disappears into the crowd, leaving me standing there, blushing and grinning ear to ear like a girl in love.
