Mia placed a request for:

watermark

mia! cutiepie! hi, im so happy you requested. this is a very small tutorial hence it goes in graphic tips but i hope to be helpful <33 i hope your lovely self finds this useful.

without further ado, let's begin!

for this you will require the assistance of:

any app with decent text options/blending options

what is a watermark? ::

it's essentially different from your usual author-name. if you're making your own cover/banner, i would suggest to avoid adding a watermark and instead to place your author-name in a way it plays more part in your cover, like so:

you basically add your author-name/watermark to avoid plagiarism of graphics. so your author-name kinda does the job well and you don't exactly need a watermark.

but what about when you are making a request for someone? what then? their cover shouldn't be plagiarised either, since they are the author. so it's technically their cover, hence the author-name must go to them.

that's when you add a watermark. it's like this: I may have bought (maybe i commissioned it too) the painting from you and sold it to a museum, the plaque below it may bear my name as the owner. however, the painting itself will carry your watermark, thus showing that you are the maker.

you also add a watermark when you're entering for graphic contests and the like.

characteristics of a watermark ::

your watermark shouldn't cause you more burden than the original graphic itself lmao

keep it small, keep it simple and keep it out of sight. (not literally okay-)

how to NOT make a watermark ::

it shouldn't be super big and take all the attention away from the main focus of attention: the graphic.

istg, any of you make a watermark like this, i will literally disown y'all. keep it short and simple, y'all .

this is smaller than before, but the font is WAYYYYY too attention-seeking imo and not at all subtle. it's a watermark ffs not the actual title of the graphic

how to make a watermark ::

keep it short and unique to yourself. it could be like one of those extra sparkly pngs you put in the background, or just a small little signature at the bottom right corner. whatever looks good. here are some ideas for inspiration, please remember to add your own touches to it lmao:

it's sweet and cute and can easily go anywhere on the cover. unless you're making a dark, tragic cover I suggest not using this one (maybe customize it to a diff color and remove the heart)

this one's classy but more like a logo lmao so im not very proud of it. prolly the kind that should be kept on the faceclaim's t-shirt or smth like that.

i kinda like this one. to make it is super easy: add text in over, and tap on the border around the text and play around with it until you get smth like the above-given example:

this one's probably my favorite. it's super pretty and can go with a lot of themes. im thinking of keeping this as my permanent watermark.

where to place your watermark ::

honestly, depend on your aesthetic instinct here because this is totally up to you. it should look good, not take away all the attention, be unseen yet seen at the same time. you can keep it at a corner, or near the face-claim, or near the text, whatever your wish. but make it look good. ask another person for opinions if you aren't sure, i always do.

shout-out to abby! lmao can you spot my watermark?

it looked nicer near his crotch but that would be weird so-

i blended my watermark for making it go with the cover.
