thirty
"Aurelia, sweetheart, wake up." Harry wears a gentle smile as he lightly shakes her shoulder to wake her up. He absolutely hates to rouse her from her blissful dreams, but he has to use the bathroom and he's completely forgotten what hour of the day that their tour is scheduled for.
Aurelia groans and releases her hold on him, a yawn follows seconds later. "Why do you do this to me?"
She's asked in a light manner, but Harry knows that she's probably a tad bit irritated with how he seems to do this every morning. Which, is understandable on her side because her circadian rhythm is thrown off because she's blind so it's difficult for her to fall asleep sometimes.
Harry's stayed up with her many nights when she can't sleep, but he doesn't mind it because they sit and talk about life and whatever comes to mind, or they just enjoy the silence and the warmth of each other as they lay under the plush covers.
He smiles softly at how adorable she looks as she rubs the sleep from her eyes and another yawn takes hold of her. "I'm sorry sweetheart. If I could tell my body to ignore its normal functions so that I wouldn't bother your sleep, I definitely would."
Aurelia can't stay irritated at him for long and the moment that his soft, warm lips meet her forehead, she's already gotten over it. She really isn't a morning person so, when he wakes her up like he does, it's quite bothersome. Sleeping is a relief once her mind finally quiets and her brain decides to accept the fact that it's night. Unfortunately, it takes hours for that sleep to happen and she wakes up more frequently than she'd like to.
It's too bad for her that Harry knows what time of the day it is indefinitely and he always manages to wake her up around the same time because his bladder needs to be relieved.
By the time that he returns, she's barely half awake and mumbling for him to hurry up so that she can drift off while cuddling him, and something about him being annoying which has him chuckling lightly as he crawls back into bed with her.
He loves her so much, even when she's in her grumpy morning mood.
Aurelia hums light once he's situated so that she can cuddle him. He likes to be the little spoon as much as she does and the mornings are perfect for him for this reason among many others.
Harry lets his fingers tangle in her soft hair, she loves it when he does that even if she's half asleep. And Harry loves running his fingers through her hair because it's very calming and just a nice little thing to do in order to pass time.
As they lay there, the way that his chest rises and falls with each breath that he takes brings Aurelia close to sleep so quickly that it's almost unreal.
And then he goes and ruins it.
"Sweetheart?"
Aurelia groans in annoyance, if he's going to keep disturbing her sleep she's going to have to get a separate hotel room. "What is it now, Harry? I love you, but this has got to stop, sleep is so precious."
She's desperate to get back to sleep because she only got a few hours last night and she's exhausted.
Harry chuckles softly and apologizes briefly before getting to his point. "I forgot what time we're leaving for our tour and I just want to wake you up on time...sorry."
Aurelia lifts her head in the direction that she knows her eyes will meet his despite the fact that hers are blank and she sighs lightly, "You're such a pain in the ass in the morning, do you know that?"
His tongue pokes out to wet his lips before he smiles brightly and leans in to kiss her, "I'm sorry. I love you."
Aurelia finds herself smiling despite how he's continuing to deprive her of the sleep that she desperately needs. "Three o'clock. I love you too, now will you please let me sleep?"
Harry kisses her one last time, "Yes, you can sleep now. I won't bother you again, I promise."
His silence doesn't last for very long and only a few minutes pass before he's humming to a song that's stuck in his head. Aurelia's seconds away from hitting him. She absolutely loves it when he sings, or when he hums, but at this point all it's doing is keeping her awake.
"Harry?"
He can hear the slight twinge of annoyance in her voice and he stops humming immediately. Harry tries to hold back his smile even though there's no way that she can see it. "Yes, love?"
"Shut the fuck up."
Harry laughs lightly despite the harsh words and he whispers an apology. He's oddly awake for some reason and it's beginning to cause problems, even though Aurelia's just grumpy because it's morning and she didn't get much sleep the night before.
Much to his surprise, he ends up falling asleep with her about an hour into the silence and they nearly sleep past the time that he set to wake her up for their bucket list adventure of the day.
Internally he's panicking because he probably just screwed this up, but outwardly he's trying to be as calm as possible as he speaks softly and caresses Aurelia's cheek with a gentle smile on his lips.
"Aurelia, sweetheart, we've got to get ready now."
Aurelia doesn't particularly like this and she groans lightly because she really just wants to stay in bed all day.
Harry sighs playfully, his smile growing brighter as he thinks of the perfect way to get her up. Granted, she'll still be a bit irritable, but that doesn't bother him and he decides to go through with his plan.
He peppers her skin with kisses and substantially manages to wake her up. Aurelia releases a not-so-irritated giggle as she starts to squirm in his grip to get him to stop because his lips are starting to tickle her.
"Harry! Stop! I'm up! I'm up!"
He laughs against her skin and she shivers, goosebumps rise quickly because of the strong effect that he has on her both physically and emotionally. "But now that I've started, I don't particularly want to stop."
Aurelia's beaming now, sleep quickly releasing its hold on her and Harry making her fall so much further in love with him just because he's being himself. "You know, that last tour goes at five, we could just push it back for a little love. Hell, I don't even care if we go anymore or about the rest of that list for that matter. I just want to be with you."
Harry looks at her with such adoration that, if she could see it, she would've completely melted under his gaze and his touch. Eyes are such powerful things and each of them hates the fact that she can't see because eyes are the windows to the soul and she wants to see his love, and vice versa.
He's about to say something when Aurelia averts her sightless eyes and blushes furiously as she pretends to look down at their hands. "God, I wish that I could see that look. You have no idea what you're doing to me, but it's the greatest feeling in the world."
Harry's smile brightens at the thought of her feeling what he's conveying even though she can't see him. "You can tell when I look at you a certain way?"
Aurelia's pretty slightly off white teeth sink into her bottom lip as she nods and lifts her head once more so that he's looking directly into her eyes again. He thinks that her eyes are beautiful despite their cloudy and faded appearance.
"Yes, for the most part anyway. The look you just gave me and that you're currently giving me always has my stomach and knots and my heart beating so fast. When I catch it, that one's my favorite."
While Harry wants nothing more than for her to be able to see again, he also enjoys that she can appreciate and pick up on things without having to rely on something that she now lacks. God, she amazes him without even trying at all and he loves her so much more than he ever thought it was possible to love another human being.
"What do you mean when you catch it? I look at you like that one hundred percent of the time that I'm around you, it's honestly not hard to at this point."
Aurelia wants to cry because he's so lovely and she doesn't know how to tell him how sad that she is because of the pure fact that, even with the surgeries, she knows that it won't make much of a difference. There are just certain things that people know indefinitely, whether they want to or not, and her mind is starting to find the thought of leaving him increasingly difficult.
Before she fell in love with him, she thought that it was going to be easy because she's known this all along and she told him that before they were romantically involved. She thought that it would be like waiting for him to show up at the park because he promised her that he would come back: difficult but manageable.
But now that she's fallen in love with him and now that they're married and have a baby on the way, the thought of leaving him gnaws at her heart and at her conscious every single day and it keeps her up at night. Harry's got a golden heart and she knows that she's going to rip it away from him when she leaves, and she knows that he probably won't love anybody else the way that he should try to for his heart, and she hates knowing those things about him. She knows him too well for it to be just another thing that happens because it has to.
Aurelia hasn't realized that tears had started to slowly roll down her cheeks until Harry began to gently wipe them away with the pad of his thumb. His voice is concerned and very calming as he speaks, "Shhh, you're okay. Everything's okay, Aurelia. Whatever it is that's clawing at your thoughts, it's okay sweetheart."
God, he has to have known that she's been upset. Of course he did, he hangs on every word that she says, every facial expression, and every single thing that she does because he's completely and utterly in love with her.
Harry wraps his arms around her protectively and comfortingly. And, despite the fact that she feels safe and like she's home in his embrace, Aurelia continues to cry, broken sounds leaving her lips as her tears wet his bare skin.
"I don't want to leave you."
Familiar lips meet her forehead and she sniffles, the small action manages to calm her down slightly.
"I don't think that you realize that you've made it impossible for you to leave me, Ever. You'll always be here."
Aurelia doesn't understand what he's getting at because of course she's going to leave him, she's dying. There isn't a way for her to stay with him, not matter how much she wants to.
"Don't pretend like I'm not dying. God, I can't pretend anymore, Harry. I can't do it."
She shakes her head and Harry continues to hold her and wipe away her heavy tears. His smile is full of profound sadness, what she said make it sound like she's going to leave him and go back home, or worse, take her own life instead and that worries him to the ends of the earth.
"I stopped pretending a long time ago sweetheart. I'm just trying to love you like you should be loved and to make whatever time that you have left the best time of your life. I know that you're going to leave me, God, I know it. I think about it every day when you're asleep and I'm awake. But what you don't understand is that you're inked into my skin, my heart, my soul, hell, even my bones, Aurelia.
"You've given me so much to remember and you don't even realize it. My God, Aurelia, you've given me so, so much and I hate that you're tearing yourself up like this and hiding from me, even though you know that I will love you and be there for you no matter what. Please, please just tell me that you're okay. I don't want to lose you because you're afraid to lose me."
Harry's forehead is pressed against hers. Aurelia's breathing is heavy from crying so much and his is nearly the same because seeing her so upset hurts him more than she knows. "Please."
Aurelia's seconds away from answering him, her lips slightly parted and about to shape her words, but Harry beats her to the punch and closes the remaining distance between them. He kisses her deeply and hopes that she can read his mind from something as simple as a kiss.
His hands press to her cheeks, her warm tears continuing to fall and wet his hands as they rest there, but they're different tears now. Aurelia understands.
The tears that cascade down her pretty cheeks and onto his hands are no longer filled with a heavy sorrow, but instead they're filled with profound love and understanding.
Harry pulls away and Aurelia nods briefly and speaks softly, "I'm okay."
He doesn't give her a moment to say anything else, but she doesn't mind because his affection is the best medicine and it heals her so much more than anything else ever could. She's sure that he knows what she's thinking as he continues to kiss her and whisper how much that he loves her between every break.
A good amount of time passes with kisses before Harry stops himself from completely drowning in her love to ask, "Do you really not care about your list anymore?"
Aurelia nods, she doesn't need to do anything else to be happy when she leaves because she's already happier than she's ever been, and she really just wants to be with Harry. He's saved her in ways that she didn't even know that she needed to be saved and that's more than enough to fill her empty heart.
"Not at all. I want to be with you and just love you for whatever time that we have left together. I don't care about anything else, just you and the sweet little girl that your sister is having for us in only a few months."
Harry kisses her again, but this time he kisses her forehead, his warm lips linger for a moment and their warmth radiates his love to her in the spot that it counts in just as much as her heart. "Whatever you want, sweetheart."
