"Yes, I've just arrived. Don't worry, I'll take care of him." Emi said, the young woman's voice slightly distorted through her helmet. She reached forward and switched off the holo terminal, sighing as she finished slipping into her Beskar and Cortosis weave armor.
The bounty hunter had less armor than she probably should have, her armor only covering vital areas like Emi's chest and arms. For the most part, she relied on her mobility and armorweave cloak to protect her body, only utilizing her armor to actively protect herself.
Emi's ship, Drop Dead Cynical, rocked slightly as she landed. Emi sighed softly as she slipped on her armorweave cloak and walked out of her ship, onto the cool, dewy meadow grass. The surrounding area was surprisingly beautiful, especially considering this was an Imperial-held world. Peeking out of a nearby hillside was a large, dark metal door bearing the Imperial insignia.
"I guess this is it, Quinn. Pop her open and let's see if we can't find this inquisitor." Emi ordered. After a few seconds, the door before her opened, and Emi walked inside the dark Imperial bunker. The young woman stalked the halls, finding nothing and nobody among the well-lit yet sterile base. The entire base seemed too clean for Emi's taste, and was far too neat. Everything had its proper place, and everything was on a set schedule.
"God, I'm glad I never joined the army..." Emi grumbled, reaching a door at the end of the hallway. When it opened, she found what looked like a conference room, with a large dark table in the middle of the room. Atop the table sat a large orb, which Emi presumed was a holo terminal of some kind.
She left the room, and wandered around the base with a vibroknife in one hand, and a shattergun in the other. She did come across a few stormtroopers, but she managed to slip past them with the help of an old metal bolt and a very confused astromech droid.
Eventually, Emi found the room she was looking for. Large, and surprisingly well lit. Within, there were several dead Rebel officers, along with a man in dark armor, a lightsaber hanging from his belt.
"Ummm, excuse me, sir? Are you the guy I come to for interrogations?" Emi called, shutting and locking the door behind her. Her shattergun went off, and the tiny projectile slammed into the Inquisitor's head, killing him. She sighed and placed the now-empty weapon in her belt.
"Should have brought more bullets. I know you can load these with damn near anything, but metal just works better..." Emi sighed, leaving the room. She fiddled with her inactive vibroknife, using it to perform knife tricks as she walked toward the exit. Suddenly, she walked headfirst into another armored figure, wearing what appeared to be similar attire to the young bounty hunter.
The figure loomed over Emi, their labored breathing filling the young woman with dread. Everything about the imposing figure seemed tailored to scare people, and Emi would have said they did a pretty good job.
"S-sorry. I was just leaving." Emi said sheepishly, hurriedly moving around the armored figure. She didn't get very far, however, before the Inquisitor's lightsaber flew from her belt, and into the armored figure's hand. Emi sighed, and turned on her heel, pitching her vibroknife at the figure. He simply batted it aside, and placed the Inquisitor's dualsaber on his belt. The armored figure then drew his own lightsaber, and approached Emi, who swung another knife at him. Naturally, it didn't work, and the figure began swinging at Emi.
~~~Several Minutes Later...~~~
The young woman's armor was in relatively good shape, despite taking multiple lightsaber strikes from the dark Sith before her. The cortosis lining had shorted out the Sith Lord's lightsaber, but even without it the Sith was indomitable.
The Inquisitor hadn't been too much of an issue, due to Emi's shattergun. It was supposed to be a simple job, kill the Inquisitor and leave. The young bounty hunter had come prepared for a quick battle, but the Sith Lord before her had proven that things could never be easy.
"Submit." was the only word spoken by the Sith, who had ignited his crimson blade and slowly approached the bounty hunter. The young woman drew her electrostaff and backed away, preparing her jetpack for a quick escape. The dark Sith had other plans however, blocking the woman's escape route by destroying the doorframe.
As the young bounty hunter had learned, most things like her wrist rockets and blaster pistol were ineffective against the armored Sith, either being redirected with a wave of the figure's hand, or harmlessly striking the Sith's armor.
Electrostaff strikes had proven fruitless as well, as the Sith blocked each frenzied, panicked swing with a calm, measured swing of his lightsaber. The woman's only savior was the cortosis in her armor, which had been meant for dealing with her original target, not the Sith that was before her.
"You will not leave this place." the Sith said, his voice made all the more fearsome due to his helmet. The Sith's mechanically assisted breathing could be heard from across the room, setting the woman on edge more so than his appearance.
A sudden, loud crackling in the woman's helmet caused her to jump.
"Emi, you alright in there?" came her partner's voice.
"Quinn, he's here!" Emi hissed, removing her slugthrower from her back and firing it at the Sith.
"Emi, get out!" Quinn cried.
"Trying!" Emi cried, blowing the door open.
As the woman flew down the hallway, metal slabs began flying past her, striking other walls as they missed. Emi blew open another door and flew through it as the base around her began tearing itself apart in an effort to kill the bounty hunter.
"Almost out, Quinn!" Emi shouted. Her partner didn't reply.
"Quinn, I'm-" Emi began again, before a chunk of metal slammed into her helmet. The woman flew off course, and almost slammed into a wall.
"QUINN!!!!" Emi roared, correcting herself before the collision. Quinn was still silent.
A rumble shook the building, another sheet of metal knocked Emi out of the air. The woman tumbled for a moment before rolling to her feet. Emi reached for her commlink, but stopped as the sound of labored, mechanical breathing grew louder.
"There's no way. He can't be that fast!" Emi exclaimed, turning away and starting her jetpack once more.
"You cannot escape." said the Sith. Emi decided that she had never been one for authority figures, and proceeded to do just that.
As Emi flew out the door leading inside, she detonated the charges she had placed upon her arrival at the base. The entire base went up in fire, smoke, and a LOT of now-wasted credits.
Emi landed by her ship, 'Drop Dead Cynical', and removed her helmet.
"There's no way he survived that one, Quinn." Emi said breathlessly. The young woman moved to enter her ship when the sound of shifting metal alerted her.
"There's no way!!!" Emi cried, opening the door to her ship and rushing to the cockpit.
Just in time to see the Sith burst out of the rubble like he was standing up from a fall. The Sith's armor was completely intact, though it seemed like the dark figure had lost his lightsaber.
Suddenly, Quinn's voice blared throughout the ship.
"Emi, it's Vader!!!!" Quinn shrieked.
Emi felt the blood drain from her face as she heard the name. She didn't have a chance, even if Vader didn't have a lightsaber. The man would probably pull her ship out of the sky with just the Force.
"Quinn, open my locker." Emi said shakily.
"Your funeral, boss!" came the A.I's reply.
Emi hurried into her quarters as the ship began to tremble. The woman yanked her locker open and collected all the weapons she could carry, then exited her ship.
"Oi!" Emi shouted, firing a slugthrower at Vader. The shot whizzed by the Dark Lord's head, drawing no external reaction from Vader. She fired again after recentering her aim, and the slug slammed against Vader's helmet. The slug had no visible effect on Vader, though he did turn to look at Emi as she hurriedly dug through her bag.
"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon!!!!" She growled at herself, pulling out pieces of a device. She slapped the pieces together as she found them, eventually digging out a crystal and slapping it into the tube-shaped device and activating it. A blue blade burst forth, and Emi grinned.
"Hey, over here!!!" Emi shouted, rushing across the field at Vader. She swung her blade at the Dark Lord, who simply shoved the young woman backward. He used the force to rip his lightsaber from the rubble, and the red blade hummed to life. Emi growled out some swear words and rushed him again, swinging her lightsaber with reckless abandon.
Vader effortlessly blocked every strike with calm, fluid motions as Emi attacked with wild and frenzied swings. Emi eventually tired herself out, and her swings began to slow. The instant that happened, Vader pressed the attack and forced the young woman onto the defensive. She struggled to keep Vader at bay, more than once losing her footing and narrowly avoiding getting her head lopped off.
"You are no Jedi, little girl." Vader growled, lifting Emi up like a ragdoll and throwing her into her ship. Emi slammed into a pile of metal boxes, causing their contents to scatter about the ship as the boxes themselves collapsed on the young woman.
"Quinn...g-get us out of here..." Emi groaned, gripping her now-inactive lightsaber in a white-knuckle grip. The A.I said nothing, simply putting the engines to maximum and sending the ship into orbit. Only when the ship had made a hyperspace jump did Emi crawl out of the pile of metal and other random objects that had fallen.
"Quinn...?" Emi mumbled, standing up slowly and staggering over to the medical bay. She peeled off her armor, leaving only the black, skintight bodysuit underneath it. "How's she looking?"
"Ship's fine, aside from that mess you made in the cargo bay. Are you gonna clean that up?" Quinn teased, a droid wandering into the medbay.
"L-later, Quinn. I think I broke something..." Emi groaned. The young woman laid on the medbay cot and shut her eyes, allowing the medical droid to perform the necessary scans on her as she drifted off to sleep.
~~~Several hours later...~~~
"Emi, wake up!" Quinn's voice blared over the speakers. The young woman awoke with a start, looking around wildly as her ship rocked rather violently.
"Quinn, what are you doing?" Emi demanded, hurrying into the cockpit and taking over from the droid. The on-board sensors were going wild, detecting dozens of hostile targets as Emi struggled to dodge the blaster fire and proton torpedoes.
"Empire is in pursuit of us. I guess they aren't too pleased about you killing an Inquisitor and going toe-to-toe with Vader. And, you know, living." Quinn said, the ship suddenly jerking to the side as Quinn narrowly avoided an asteroid that Emi hadn't seen.
"Quinn, activate defenses and countermeasures! I'll hop into the back and break in that new bubble turret we got." Emi ordered, standing up and making her way to the back of the ship. The woman jumped into a chair in the middle of the room, and the seat was raised into a large turret.
"Letting her rip, Quinn! Get us moving!" The bounty hunter snapped, placing her index fingers on each trigger and squeezing. The guns began to roar with heavy blaster fire, tearing into a TIE fighter with surprising ease.
After several minutes of sustained fire, the guns began to sputter randomly, before ceasing to fire altogether.
"Quinn, I need more cells! I burned these one out!" Emi shouted, slamming her hand down on a button in the turret to call for a reload. Quinn didn't reply, but a small team of droids hurried into the room to reload the gun and take the spent cells.
While the droids did their work, Emi focused on trying to keep TIE fighters away by hitting random buttons in the turret bubble. Emi had ensured that there was a wide array of buttons and switches she could hit in order to control parts of the ship from the turret. She managed to activate three defensive turrets, fire a countermeasure flare, and fire a missile as the turret was reloaded.
The guns then whirred to life once more, and Emi began to fire again. She took down several more TIEs before a stray shot scored the clear plasteel bubble. The bounty hunter flinched, but didn't release the triggers. When the guns were empty, Emi lowered the seat and allowed a gunner droid to take her place.
"Quinn, what happened to all of those Buzz Droids we had on board?" Emi asked, hurrying around the ship. She eventually found a small storage room, full of Discord missiles and dormant Buzz droids. "Or I can find them by myself, I guess. Pays to have sticky fingers sometimes, huh?"
The woman dragged a discord missile into a rear-facing torpedo tube, and launched it. The missile burst open, and Emi watched from a nearby viewport as Buzz droids burst out of the missile and began to shred a TIE fighter. The starfighter exploded and the remaining TIEs pulled away, allowing Emi and Quinn to escape into the asteroid field nearby.
"Quinn, are there any planets nearby? We need to land before we run out of fuel." Emi said, walking back to the cockpit. Quinn, again, did not reply, but directed the ship towards what appeared to be a planet.
"Says here this place is called...Remnant. We'll land there and take a breather. Looks inhabited, hopefully breathable air. You can stretch your legs there." Quinn said, guiding the ship into the planet's orbit.
"Thanks, buddy. Now, I'm gonna go back to sleep. Don't wake me up." Emi groaned, sitting in her chair and closing her eyes.
