Chapter 1: Shockwave's Assistant

Chapter links with Transformers Prime Season 2 Episode 17, a flashback episode about Arcee and Cliff reaching Earth.

A comm came through, ordering her to the bridge. With how slow activity has been lately, Overshot was more than ready to oblige the demand. It was getting depressing with Shockwave still demanding his team to remain on Cybertron, the dead planet not welcome to any faction anymore. Still, Shockwave was convinced that his on-world laboratory could hoard more results than any off-world. Onside of Shockwave's continuous experimentations, Starscream (the apparent current leader of the Decepticons) had ordered the team to finish the Space Bridge and gather energon to fuel it. Although, following the Great Exodus, reserves were nearly depleted.

The windows from the base reflected exactly how dark Cybertron had gotten. Four million stellar cycles ago, before the war, Cybertron had been booming and there was no such things as factions. Now, Cybertronians were escaping the surface at the first chance they got. Even Optimus Prime had taken to the stars all those thousands of years ago with the Ark. Where the Autobots had gone is a mystery, but since the Decepticons now possessed the ancient Space Bridge technology, distance will not be an issue as soon as Optimus's location is discovered.

Still, the universe is endless.

The halls of the base were long and her clawed peds trotted through them quickly, vehicons and seekers moving aside as she came through in her alt-mode. She was the only one in the base with a Beast Mode, but it had not always been like that. She was Shockwave's personal assistant, the second-in-command of the Scientific Endeavours. At the beginning of Shockwave's rule as a 'mad scientist', his team of qualified students had been large. Now, at the end of the war, Overshot was one of the only to have completed his training and survived his experimentations. In Shockwave's optics (or optic), if you were not Megatron or Soundwave, then you can be included in experimentation at any given point. In Overshot's case, it had been the removal of her aircraft alt-mode and a replacing Beast Mode.

"Overshot, I require your assistance," Shockwave spoke when she came across the bridge, said mech not even looking up from his work when she entered. She transformed into her main mode whilst still in motion, strolling up to Shockwave's side. She had always been looking up to even vehicons, but with her added Beast Mode, she now stood level to the Decepticon clones. Still, she had to incline her helm to face Shockwave.

"Of course Master; what do you require of me?" she asked, sparing a glance toward his work of configuring the Space Bridge before growing bored and peering back at his single optic. She had seen enough of the Space Bridge schematics since the start of its creation with Shockwave fussing over its perfection. With Space Bridges, the slightest misalignment could cause a black hole so the obsessing was not without reason.

"Autobot interrogation," he spoke in monotone, his digits working on the control panel.

"Would that not be best suited for a low-level vehicon? The Autobots remaining are not exactly fighting back after Ultra Magnus pulled his team out and that pesky creation of ours disappeared beneath Cybertron's soil," she asked with boredom evident in her voice.

"Be that as it may, this was by request of Starscream," Overshot groaned, shaking her head.

"That con can produce no results of value," she peered out the windows, spotting the Nemesis heading towards the landing dock. She growled at the sight, her beastliness showing. "What makes this intel so important that he came to us?"

"Soundwave has intercepted an encrypted Autobot message. The Autobots are not willingly revealing the code to decrypt it,"

"As expected of those bots. I assume I should prepare the cortical psychic patch?" she smirked, her hip strutting out.

"You assumed correctly," nodding in affirmation, Overshot turned and strolled out of the bridge, heading toward the laboratory. Vehicons were standing about when she arrived, ready to act at any given command. They diligently followed Overshot's orders, setting up the tools necessary for the patch. Two berths were set up for the two autobots, the bindings set up to the bots' body size that a vehicon had gone to receive. When she was satisfied with the equipment, she ordered the vehicons to assist inhaling the Autobots, herself returning to the bridge to join with Shockwave.

Even without a faceplate to convey emotions, Overshot could immediately recognize the annoyance Shockwave was emitting when she reached him. She figured it to be because of the Nemesis touching down and the even less-than-adequate leader of it.

"Dissatisfied with Starscream's appearance, Master?" she questioned with a knowing tone. If there was one thing Overshot was certain of, was Shockwave's loathing of Starscream. She had seen it come to play many times in the war before, especially with Shockwave expertly coordinating their movements to avoid Starscream's.

"Starscream is a nuisance to the Decepticon cause, merely a jester in Lord Megatron's high court," his voice had a bitter edge when he spoke of Starscream, as it always had been.

"Would you have preferred Soundwave as leader?" Overshot asked curiously, following Shockwave out the bridge and towards the laboratory.

"Soundwave is far more qualified for the positon, be it not that he is dedicated to the position Lord Megatron has given him as chief of communications," Shockwave explained, his heavy peds resonating through the halls.

"But he cannot speak,"

"Soundwave's voice box is completely functional, but his refusal to use it is... illogical,"

"He has the right idea. Some of these Decepticons are not worth the extra waste of energon. Our energy is used more sufficiently elsewhere," she commented, walking at his side.

"While Lord Megatron is attending to the Ark, Starscream is leader of the military forces. We must accept the change in positions,"

"That is the not the same as agreeing with it, and we are not military,"

"... logical," as they rounded the corner to the laboratory, Overshot noticed the deafening silence that has fallen upon the Cybertronians within the room. The only thing that sounded was Shockwave's terrifying steps, their heaviness demanding attention. Overshot had to admit that Shockwave's change in alt-mode from jet to tank was a most logical decision on his part.

She spotted the two Autobots, their colours sticking out like freshly drawn energon. A red mech and a blue and pink femme.

These were the ones who eluded Starscream's interrogations?

How dull.

"We may be in a little more trouble than I thought," the mech commented as he spotted the two Decepticons.

"Autobots, say hello to Shockwave," Starscream dramatically revealed, gesturing to said mech.

"Bind them to the berths," Shockwave ordered of the vehicons who in sheer number overwhelmed the two Autobots. He headed over to the equipment Overshot had set up, adding in his own configurations but in overall, she had it all set up to the T.

"Delivering a mountain of energon, intercepting an encrypted Autobot communiqué, and capturing two key prisoners is impressive, I admit, but lord Megatron expects nothing less from his first lieu-" spotting the look Shockwave gave the rambling Starscream, he stopped. "I should let you work, right? No doubt, you are trying to concentrate. Carry on," Starscream backed off at this and had Shockwave the capability for it, he would be scowling. Overshot decided to step in, taking one of the cables from the table. She stepped in behind Shockwave and he lowered down, allowing her to attach it at the back of his helm. Satisfied, he nodded and stepped to his control panel.

"Um, Shockwave, are you certain you can extract the decryption code without first nullifying our subject's neural net?" Starscream questioned, strolling up to Shockwave. Overshot perched herself on a table, watching the scene play out with clear curiosity. This was not the first time she had come across Starscream, but he seemed to have a habit of ignoring her very existence.

"I invented the cortical psychic patch. I am familiar with its idiosyncrasies," Shockwave snapped, almost seemingly charging at Starscream before grabbing the second cable from behind him and heading to the Autobot femme.

"Of course you are," Starscream offered in a weak voice, cowering back. Overshot could not help but let a chuckle out at his weak display of character. This was the temporary leader? This was the chief of the Decepticon military? Albeit that Cybertron is dead, with Starscream on its soil, the planet may as well we crying out in pain at having created such an unworthy Cybertronian.

"You! You dare laugh at your ruler!" Starscream snapped, pointing a long digit towards Overshot. Her amused audio effects did not stop, even as he threatened her. "Stop that! And what is with your paint job? You look like an Autobot with that... blue!"

"Do not address my assistant," Shockwave snapped, shooting his arm cannon at an area above Starscream's head. He jumped at the actions and immediately gave up on castrating the insubordinate femme, cowering once more.

"Personal taste," she answered anyway, Starscream peering at Overshot with a look of disbelief.

"Keep that thing away from me, you one-eyed freak!" the Autobot femme screeched as Shockwave neared her.

"Leave her alone! Use it on me!" the Autobot mech desperately tried to put himself in Shockwave's line of fire to take the punch for her. Overshot almost yawned, having seen all this at one point or the other in the war.

"Do not worry. If her mind does not survive the procedure, you will be next," he held her helm down and attached the cable, the effect almost immediate. It did not take long before the monitors reflected Shockwave's findings.

"Ah. The code," Starscream nodded in satisfaction as the patch served its purpose and extracted the code from her processor. Shockwave ripped the cable from her helm. Overshot hopped off from the table and headed over to the berth.

"Arcee. Arcee! I'll scrap you both!" the mech did not seem satisfied with her unmoving state, Overshot shaking her head at the mech's tragic attempts. She rounded Shockwave and gently pulled the cable from his own helm, careful not to disrupt his neural net. She took the second cable from Shockwave's digits and returned the equipment to its storage.

"Shut up! I'm trying to listen!" Starscream retorted.

"This is Optimus Prime. To all surviving Autobots who hear this message, I ask you to join me in a remote corner of the galaxy, on a small planet rich with energon. I have reason to believe this world will soon become a new target of Decepticon conquest. Our team is small but strong. Join me at these coordinates so that we might plan our resistance. Safe journeys," the message played, the mighty Autobot's voice booming. Overshot peered at the coordinates with interest, recognising the planet and capturing the image for later use.

"Aha! Brilliant! Not only do we know where to find Optimus Prime, but he's begging for help. Now is the time to strike!" Starscream cheered.

"You are no longer of use," Shockwave spoke, his arm cannon in the Autobot mech's faceplate.

"Hey, Scream. I'm curious, you always let other cons do your dirty work?" the red mech spoke, knowing it would get his attention.

"Shockwave! You already disposed of one of my prisoners. Cliffjumper is mine," Starscream strolled towards the red mech.

"Your reasoning is hardly logical, but indulge yourself," Shockwave lowered his arm cannon and turned his helm towards Overshot. Understanding his message, she headed over and flanked him as they exited the laboratory.

"Master, will we be creating a Space Bridge to the coordinates the Prime so graciously offered?" she questioned as they headed in the direction of the bridge.

"That would be most logical. I will attend to the energon depository of the Bridge's fuel. You will lock the Bridge onto the coordinates. I presume you have logged them in your processor?"

"Of course, Master. I will attend to it immediately," she transformed into her alt-mode, her four pawed peds landing onto the flooring with a thud. She ran off towards the bridge, her legs carrying her sleek frame faster than the typical Cybertronian vehicle. Just as Shockwave's inspiration for the Dinobots had come from viewing a distinct world through a Space Bridge, had her design also come from the same place. She wished to know the extra-terrestrial species one day.

Reaching the bridge, she transformed and headed to the control panel.

"Ready the bridge to receive energon," she ordered two stationed seekers who immediately responded. She began to work on locking onto the coordinates, soon the same map appearing on the panel before the Space Bridge boomed to life and opened the portal. Satisfied, she smirked. After all their preparation, and now with the correct amount of energon, the Bridge is finally working.

"The Space Bridge is operational," she turned at Shockwave's voice, his form entering the room. He peered over at the control panel. "But not optimal. Come," Overshot followed him beneath the bridge where the inner workings of the Space Bridge were located.

"The Space Bridge is unstable. It requires a better input flow," he accessed the energon pipes' control, minimizing the filter that decreased the flow speed.

"Does that not maximise the risk of a pressure build-up?" Overshot questioned his workings.

"Hardly a logical problem. I have run full diagnostics. The pipes will handle the strain," still, she would have preferred if he could be a little more cautious. His workings quickly bored her and instead she thought back to Starscream's cowering figure and how amusing it had been. She sighed.

"Why are you venting?" Shockwave demanded, not turning to face her.

"Master, this portal to Optimus Prime's location – will we follow through and join the ambush? Or will we remain here?" straightening his form, he turned to face her.

"My laboratory is too valuable to be left behind. If Starscream requires us to join his fight, then he will have to make adjustments accordingly," although not satisfied with the answer, Overshot nodded.

"Uh, excuse me. I got separated from the tour group. Does anyone know where I can find the Decepticon base?" a familiar voice came from above on the bridge, the two scientists turning their helms upward before sharing a look.

"Have you ever considered taking out Starscream for his position? I am certain not a single Decepticon will even raise an optical ridge. I do not think the actual fight will even be that challenging. Even vehicons will cheer for you," Shockwave did not react to her words and instead headed to the steps leading to the top of the bridge. Overshot shook her head and followed.

"Whoa! Didn't Commander Starscream tell you? I'm on your side now. That coward Optimus Prime turned tail and ran, left the rest of us Autobots to fend for ourselves. So much for comradery, huh? Figured I'd rather be on the winning team, so I took Starscream up on his offer.

Imagine the look on Prime's face when it starts raining Decepticons, me with them. Really, I know all about Starscream's plan. We can all get along now," Cliffjumper kept rambling as Shockwave and Overshot headed up behind him. As the two seekers spotted them, they let down their guns and stood at attention. "There's someone behind me, isn't there?"

"Only Starscream could fail to dispose of a helpless captive," Shockwave spoke with a hopeless tone, Overshot shaking her head with a ghost smile as she peered at the red mech. He seemed shook at their appearance, but before anything more could be said, the Space Bridge made a terrible screeching noise.

"Uh, is it supposed to sound like that?" Shockwave knocked the Autobot away with his gun, the mech skidding away. Spotting Arcee near the control panel Shockwave was heading to, Overshot decided to divide and conquer. Transforming into her Beast Mode, she signalled to the seekers to join her fight as they headed to the mech.

"Interloper!" Shockwave shouted, throwing Arcee off the bridge. "You have overridden the energon-containment protocols, haven't you? Clever, but not irreversible," the seekers overwhelmed Cliffjumper who had incredible instincts and quickly took them out. Just as he felt satisfying at taking the seekers out, he felt a horrible stimulation as his pain receptors warned him of a leak. Looking down he saw Overshot in her Beast Mode, jaws wrapped around his leg. He threw her away, watching as she flew off with a large chunk of his armour with it. He hissed out as he saw the large energon leak, not able to react quickly enough as the beast jumped him again. Her claws scratched at this chest armour, dangerously peering at the cables underneath it. He screeched at her actions and attempted to throw her off but her claws were embedded in his chassis.

"You are one troubling femme!" he managed to get his arm in her stomach, transforming it into a gun and blew her off him. She flew overhead Shockwave, said mech engaging the Autobot in her stead. Near the portal, Overshot landed on all fours skilfully. Although she had not yet fully gotten accustomed to her Beast Mode yet, she still valued the natural instincts that came with it. She ran towards Arcee, who had gotten back onto the bridge, but she responded to Overshot's approach by kicking the two vehicons at her. The first one she could dodge but the second one skid her back.

"There is more than one way to nullify a neural net," Shockwave spoke as Overshot looked over and saw him in a position to end Cliffjumper. She smiled in satisfaction at this.

"Not this time," Arcee shot the ceiling and the falling boulders hit Shockwave back. Sprinting from side to side, Overshot tried to dodge the falling obstacles before a large one landed before her and the force send her back. She growled loudly and jumped to attention, the whirling colours around her blinding. She had been flown straight into the Space Bridge.

She sprinted back towards the portal exit at full speed but the Autobots decided to enter the portal, Cliffjumper ready with his blaster as he hit her straight in the helm. With no time to react, she was send back to the other side of the portal.

"For a Decepticon with a Beast Mode, you're not a good fighter," the red mech retorted with an amused smile.

"Overshot is Shockwave's scientific assistant. Before his experimentations, she didn't even have arm blasters," Arcee spoke as the two headed through the portal, recalling what she knew about the Decepticon.

"So she's a newbie, huh? Then better make her unlucky streak a short one," he prepared to fluff out her spark with his gun when he was hit with a blast from behind. Turning, the two spotted Shockwave stalk towards them. Behind them, Overshot had gotten onto her peds and transformed into her main form, holding up her own forearm blasters towards them.

"Scrap," the Autobots readied their weapons. "Give it everything you got!" Cliffjumper shot at Shockwave whilst Arcee stood against his back and fired at Overshot. Said femme fired back whilst the instincts she acquired from her Beast Mode helped her to relatively dodge the oncoming blasts. Cliffjumper took the first hit from Shockwave, his form being repelled and fly over Arcee's. Overshot dodged his flying body, merely sparing him a glance before turning back. Arcee stood with her sides to Shockwave and Overshot, watching both.

Shockwave shot at Arcee who expertly dodged, raising her own blasters and firing direct in his optic. Shockwave's blast flew past her body and straight into Overshot, her body flying back like ashes in the wind. Her body went through the portal and crashed into the landscape on the other side. She waited until her equilibrium sensors stabilised before she sat herself up, peering up at the portal. Spotting the two Autobots forms heading through, she decided to make herself scarce and forced her body to transform and start running.

"Don't let her get away!" Ciffjumper shouted as the two Autobots activated their blasters and shot at her. Overshot moved from side to side in order to avoid it but the sheer heat of the blast nearly singed her paintjob.

"We don't want our first report to the Big Guy have to be that we released one of Autobots' Most Wanted onto a defenceless planet!" Arcee shouted, using her tiny form to gain a speed advantage over Cliffjumper. However, whatever animal Overshot's alt-mode had been based of, clearly somewhat had a speed advantage over the rest of the animal kingdom because as Arcee sped up, she realised that Overshot was always two leaps ahead of her. Still, she hoped her blasts would cover the distance.

"Arcee!" said femme swivelled her head around to witness Cliffjumper tumble into the sand, dust settling on his frame. His leg wound where Overshot's dentas had been embedded was leaking energon, and the blast he took from Shockwave was not looking good either. "Leave me! Go after her!" Arcee stopped in her tracks and after giving Overshot's fading form one last good examination, she vented and turned to face Cliffjumper.

"She's too fast for me anyway. I'll need my partner to capture her," at that, Cliffjumper smiled.

Overshot did not stop until she was certain that the Autobots had abandoned her trail. Only then did she transform after clawing her way to the top of a butte, her optics scanning the landscape. Looking back in the direction where she came from, the clear sky now in place where the Space Bridge portal had imploded. She knew that it meant Shockwave's survival rate significantly dropped, but that did not bother her. Shockwave had come back before; he can do so again.

Until her master tracked her down (which she was sure he would, considering she knew too much of his operations to simply be let loose) her survival was top priority.

She sat on the side of the butte, her legs hanging down the side of the canyon element. Her processor nearly overheated as she analysed everything she knew, especially the coordinates of Optimus's location. She knew she had seen the general coordinates at some point, and now with time to analyse it, she realised that she had been correct. She was standing on the same planet she and Shockwave had send the Predacons too all those stellar cycles ago.

Who were probably offline at this point, of course, considering their slave programming disallowed them from consuming the energon deposits they were send to protect in the first place. Therefore, all those energon deposits must still be untouched and Optimus had said in his message that the planet was rich with energon, which meant he knew that fact as well.

Besides that she was on a planet that actually housed the life force required for survival, Predacon fossils must be littering the soil. Where there is a bone, there is CNA, and where there is CNA, there is the possibility of life. With this planet becoming the rallying point of the new Autobot army, Overshot knew that if she did not add some muscle on her side, then she might as well offline herself now to save them the trouble. However, albeit that Shockwave had attempted to give her a fighting chance by creating her Beast Mode, it did not mean that she knew anything about fighting. She was all brains and no brawns and all Shockwave had given her was a quicker way to escape the battle.

Thus, she would need others to fight her battles for her, and what better than an army of Predacons?
