DIANA HAD GONE back to Paris for work, but all of the peace had been broken when men decided to bomb multiple buildings. She was there though, armour packed and ready in case of an emergency. This was one of the times. One of the men, the leader with his trench coat and fedora, opened a briefcase to show C4 packed into it. Women and children screamed in terror.
"Shut up!" One of the men pointing a gun at them yelled.
"This is man's best hope," the leader said. "Down with the modern world, back to the dark ages and the safety of holy fear." He turns a switch, red numbers showing up on the timer, giving them the countdown of 20 seconds. The screams grew louder. He goes to walk away but Diana bursts through the doors, glass shattering everywhere and large splints of wood landing on the ground with a dull thud. One of the men goes to fire at her, but with her speed, it slows down the image of the bullet to where she can see it, and she swiftly moves away from its path. It lands in the wood door frame. Her eyes view the clock; 13 seconds left. She needed to be quick. She runs towards the first man on her right and punches him hard, throwing him into the wall.
Instantly, she grabs another's rifle and throws him over her shoulder; 7 seconds left. As she views the clock a man butts her in the head with the end of his rifle, bringing a soft groan from her lips. She looks at him with angry eyes. She lands a punch and runs to the case, closing it and launching herself from the ground with her powerful legs. She lands on the floor above them and throws the briefcase through the top window, hearing the countdown beep until it explodes.
The leader picks up one of the dead men's rifles and points it at the hostages. "This might be over quickly, but ―"
As he presses the trigger, Diana breaks through the roof and blocks the bronze bullet with her gauntlet. Sparks fly at the impact. He begins to shoot at a faster pace and Diana runs at an equally fast run, her arms moving wildly as she blocks each and every bullet from the innocent people. She pushes a man to his side as a bullet whizzes by his ear. The last bullet hits against her gauntlet as she sits on one knee, her arm blocking the lower part of her face, showcasing her determined and fierce eyes. The man lowers his gun as Diana stands up. "I don't believe it," the man speaks up. "What are you?"
"A believer," Diana clashes her forearms together to emit a powerful energy blast, a mix of orange and white.
The man dies immediately.
"I BELIEVE THERE is a stranger," Bruce Wayne begins, "comes to this village from the sea. He comes in the winter when the people are hungry, and brings fish. He comes on the King Tide. That was last night."
The man before him, the chosen leader, begins speaking in their language, Bruce not understanding a word he says. "Icebergs in the harbour," the tall man standing next to him translates. He has weird ice-blue eyes, like the blue from what cartoonists would colour ice-caps. He had long hair that reached past his broad shoulder, blond and different hues of brown. "Four months since the last ship got through."
Bruce feels slightly intimidated by him; he seemed as if he would pick a fight with a fly if it ever touched his food. "Well this stranger doesn't come by ship," Bruce explains. The man glares at him. "There are enemies coming from far away. I need warriors. I'm building an alliance and defend ourselves." The man walks up to him, dwarfing him by size. "You should get out."
Bruce becomes cocky. "Can you at least point me to Atlantis?"
The man grabs him by the coat, turning him until Bruce's back slams against the stone wall. "Arthur Curry," Arthur slowly brings down the millionaire. "Also known as the protector of the oceans. The Aquaman. I hear you can talk to fish."
Now outside, Arthur and Bruce Wayne walk side by side, "Let me get this straight; you do dress like a bat. Like an actual bat."
"It's worked for 20 years in Gotham," he explains. "When the fight comes, we'll need you."
"Don't count on it, Batman," Arthur retorts, walking to the water's edge.
"Why not?"
"Because I don't like you coming here digging into my business ― getting into my life," he says. "People in Atlantis tell me to do this, now you say do that. I wanna be left alone."
"No way to help these people out here in the middle of nowhere 'cause you can just leave," Bruce says.
"I help them because no one else does," Arthur takes off his jacket, throwing it to the ground and showing his toned figure. He continues to the water's edge, "You want to protect them, you gotta work with me."
"A strong man is strongest alone. Ever heard of that?" Now at the edge, Arthur grips the hem of his sweater and pulls it over his head, showing the tattoos he had drawn on his tanned skin.
"That's not a saying," Bruce replies. "That's the opposite of the saying."
"Yep," he throws his shirt to the ground, "doesn't mean I'm wrong."
"Ever hear of Superman?" Bruce takes a step forward but keeps his distance. "He died fighting next to me."
"My point exactly," Arthur retorts, walking through the freezing waters with long steps. His hair was lighter at the tips than it was at the roots, cascading down his tattooed back. "Where's two of the three boxes?" Bruce asks. "It's ancient history!" Arthur replies.
"What, mankind's melting the polar ice caps, destroying the ecosystem. They got it coming?"
"Hey, I don't mind if the oceans rise," Arthur turns to look at him with his icy-blue eyes.
"How about if they boil?"
"Just like a bat, you're out of your mind, Bruce Wayne!" Arthur crosses his arms before jumping into the water bac first, a large stream of water moving from where he moves.
