New Age

Everyone was silent, utterly stunned into a stupor.

Law though, felt the need to bat the redhead over the head with his wing, "what the hell was all that stereotypical nonsense earlier? 'Holding back your talents'? Gag" Kidd hissed in response, but not out of pain or any real annoyance.

"I was hot on anger, okay? Wasn't really paying attention to whatever was coming from my mouth.. fuck, did I really sound that cheesy..?" Covering his face with his hand, the apprentice repressed the urge to burst into flames of humiliation.

The raven, however, felt no empathy to his plight and hummed, ultimately pleased with this success in embarrassing the other, "oh no, it was much worse, almost wanted to drop into a portal and never look back"

Kidd groaned, "ugh, you're never gonna let this go.." Law just twisted his tail around in silence.

Peeking back at the crowd, Kidd remembered what they were doing initially and questioned whether to just walk away now or finish what he started, although he was tempted to just march out of that place and never look back, the looks on everyone's faces made staying more than worth it.

The high and mighty prisses in the crowd looked downright scandalized! That had to be the highlight of his life!

Elbowing the demon in the ribs, Kidd nodded to the rest of the crowd, watched the other realize it was time to get back to business, and sat back to admire the demon doing his work.

If there was anything Kidd knew for sure about Law, it was that the bastard could talk his way through anything if given the floor to do so.

Law walked down the rock until he was on the edge of tipping over the peak, standing upon it like a grand stage, and it only helped further drove all the spotlight onto him.

As he scanned through the crowd, in his mind, there was a part of him that understood why Kidd was so riled up, after having such a long time to attune to his soul, the raven came to understand that the redhead was all about making things 'his way' and oppression was a big trigger.

And right now, he was looking at the most oppression he's seen in a while.

"Well isn't this a sore sight?" There was a few flinching in the crowd, and Law suppressed the instinct to grin in mockery at the exorcists, especially after noticing that it was the apprentices that were gathering their wits first.

"I must agree with Kidd, it seems the exorcists have really downgraded in the years going by, although, with the talk most fae are spreading, I'm not that surprised.." meticulously scanning through the crowd, Law tried to pick out any movement besides the odd jerking of an arm, but found that most were shocked to.. well, shock.

Except- there was one fidget in the crowd, and like a starved predator Law's eyes zoomed in on the individual.

Guessing from the uniform, they were a chore boy, hardly trained too, but his aura was especially strong, a sign of true ironclad integrity.

The said boy instantly broke out into a cold sweat when their eyes met, but Law could applaud the other seeing that instead of flinching back, the boy steeled himself.

"All of you are hardly anything I'd call impressive, this courtyard is practically full of nothing but hot air, you have aura, but they're nothing but empty, hollow shells of what you ought to be, it's wounding to see" nobody dared speak up in defense of themselves, worthless.

"But you apprentices.. you're not quite like that" Law allowed a sultry smirk to persist for a moment or two, but soon returned to his airy, only slightly playful facade, "you all have the power to take the reins.. you just don't choose to, depending on the point of view, that might be even worse than these poor excuses of exorcists, all that talent going to waste, how selfish of all of you.."

Seeing that sparked something in the boy, Law could feel the game of persuasion thicken as his whole body went rigid in defiance, his soul sparked brightly along with his outburst, "that- that's not true!" It seemed that was all he was able to reply with.

But a couple more of apprentices came into action, and Law could see the sea of change arising with every voice, "what?! You think shaming us is gonna do anything, you scary bastard?!"

"I- It's not like we have many options to take! They won't let us prove ourselves!"

"Yeah! How can we do anything if we're not given the chance?!"

"We- We can't change anything! Not like this!"

It only took moments for all the apprentices within the crowd to reach their peaks, each aura sparked wildly, each one going on and off like fireflies as they shouted and stood up, with their backbones intact for the first time since the beginning of their careers.

Law visibly grinned, all teeth and mysterious intent, causing the ruckus to a hush, "nobody ever said you had to stay here?" His wings fluttered in excitement, seeing he was getting through to them as hushed mummers began to rise up, "there's no laws stating you need to be validated by this place to be considered a legitimate exorcist"

The auras were expanding, growing larger as each person individually took his words to heart.

But Law wasn't the only person seeing this.

An enraged howl erupted from the back, and once again, the courtyard grew silent as a heavy miasma permeated the air.

Akainu came marching our from the sidelines looking ready to murder, his aura was hot and searing, recklessly being thrown out and burning everyone within his vicinity like a branding iron.

"Lies! This demon spouts lies! Don't fall for his empty words!" Visibly shaking from anger, the head exorcist glared hard into the audience, using his miasma to try and make them bend with fear, but even he could see that it was too late.

Among the crowd, much to Kidd's surprise, it was Chopper who stepped out from the rest, and after standing down the man without even so much as a blink, the brunette stood with his head held high, like he was proud for the first time in his life.

"The- The doctor wouldn't have wanted this for me-! I deserve better than this, and I can make it on my own! I'm- I'm gonna be independent from the organization!"

Akainu bristled, and there was the distinct sound of teeth clashing as his miasma thickened, to the point of being half visible to the naked eye, without needing to use his own sight Kidd could see the miasma bubble and flow out from over his shoulders.

However, instead of forcing the new wave back, it only seemed to have encouraged it to grow stronger as many more darted outwards, each individual glowing hotly as they shouted to be seen against the crowd of their peers.

"Me to! I'm sick of being treated like this! I know I can do it!"

"Kidd's right! You're all just a bunch of fakes! I can do better on my own!"

"I'm leaving! I'm not gonna let you guys underestimate me anymore!"

It wasn't long until the courtyard became a writhing mess, full of exorcists trying to repress the new growing tensions, apprentices striking back against their superiors, and many stragglers taking advantage of the chaos to rush off on their own.

Satisfied with the mess he made, Law stepped back until he was curled into his partner's side, oh so proud of how he seemingly tore the organization apart in one day.

"M'sorry" blinking owlishly at the low rumble, Law peered up at Kidd and quirked a brow, failing to keep himself from smirking at the fact of how unapologetic the redhead looked despite his words.

"What are you apologizing for?" Kidd jerked his shoulders in a way that might've been him trying to shrug, but with Law all tangled up with his arm as he was, the action carried out as more of a twitch.

"Well.. I mean the whole point of you being my familiar was to help strengthen the connection between demons and us" Law made a soft sound of realization, though the thought was cleaned off his face before it even appeared.

"Oh that, you don't need to worry about that Kidd.." the demon trailed off as spells were abruptly being fired off in the chaos, as one blast was poorly thrown in his direction, the raven paused to tilt his head in a way so the spell would avoid collision with his horns.

"The church was always a lost cause, they'd never consider peace with demons-" again Law angled himself to dodge a spell with minimal effort.

"And as long as most of the exorcist's forces were associated with the church, well, they're a lost cause too" another spell was heading for them, but this time Law curled his wings around the both of them as a shield and leaned in, close enough so that all Kidd could see was his eyes.

"But now, the real backbone of their organization has been ripped out, and now that the portion of exorcists aligned with the church has been weakened, it'll make it so much easier to not only slowly take their power away, but to bring in a change of belief, a new age in the supernatural world, one where perhaps.. demons could get a better reputation" there was a heat in the demon's eyes, and Kidd had half a mind to lean in and grasp it.

Although, before he could act on anything, Law flexed his wings once and was back to cuddling his arm.

Kidd blinked once, twice, it took him a full minute to snap out of the dazed state he somehow got into and noticed the mischievous smirk dancing along the demon's lips.

The exorcist grinned himself, "ah I get it now, you were probably hoping it'd turn out like this huh?"

Law shrugged, not denying anything, "I was expecting things to turn out as it has, knowing how stubborn you are, it was only a matter of time before you rebelled once you saw the truth"

To be honest, the two mostly forgot all about the near battle happening right below them until a spell came hurtling for them, but unlike all the previous ones, this one came charging with intent.

Sensing the danger, Law's wings instinctively jerked out to act as a shield, but Kidd reacted swiftly with a counter-spell, creating a stark flash before both spells were dissipating on impact.

"You-!" Both frowned scornfully at Akainu, as the man looked as if he was borderline ready for a stroke with all the rage and miasma pouring off of him, "how did you do this?! You're a screw up! A failure! There's no way someone as hopeless as you could tame a demon! How did something as filthy as that get tangled up with you?!"

Kidd could feel his jaw tighten, and something especially unpleasant skittered underneath his skin at the expression of pure loathing that came upon Law, not just loathing, but vicious, murderous intent to hurt.

"First of all, Law isn't filthy" leering at the head exorcist threateningly, Kidd palmed his hand under Law's wings and dragged him into the crook of his arm, "second of all, we're equals, this isn't some taming bullshit, this is a partnership"

As the redhead steamed, Law reoriented himself to stand just as imposingly as Kidd was, mindfully making sure he appeared just as much as an equal as Kidd claimed himself to be, "I agree, especially with the first statement.. unlike you, Eustass makes quite the companion, and an excellent partner in crime" flicking his tail around mischievously, the demon gave Akainu one last appraising look before losing interest.

"I think we've done our job here, Kidd" the redhead didn't move to stop glaring anytime soon, as his glare was only growing stronger with time, but once his familiar spoke, Kidd easily went back to acting as if they didn't just uproot the exorcist foundation to shreds.

Shrugging his shoulders easily enough, the exorcist glazed over the roaring crowd of anarchy once more and yawned, "yeah- let's bolt"

Before Akainu could even shriek, the two released a cloaking spell that swarmed over the courtyard, blinding everyone within the vicinity.

By the time the smoke settled, the two were gone, along with most of the apprentices that were taken underneath the organization's wings.
