Raindrops|| Mer!Sans x Reader
The cold droplets of water splash against the ground, wind pushing through the trees and soaking your body with the stuff.
You had wanted to take a walk- and you didn't know why. Something had drawn you outside despite it being the middle of the night during a rainstorm. Luckily, there was no thunder, only sheets of near freezing rain and dark clouds that blocked moonlight from reaching the ground.
The cheap dollar stood umbrella was trying its very hardest to protect you from the downpour, flailing and shivering with every gust of wind. You're still covered in the water, but still feel fine nonetheless.
It feels like... something is guiding you to the sea.
Like a gentle tug on your arm as you paced through the rain and slick grass that surrounds the beach, pretty yellowish sand a shade darker from the moisture. It felt like your very soul was bringing you there, like you needed to. It was a calling.
There was a dock at this part of the beach. It was rickety and old, with algae and other things growing on the stabilizing legs. It creaked under your weight as you continued onward, not truly knowing what you were out here for.
When you reach the edge, you peer into the water. Deep and black, full of secrets and a promise of death if you fell in (you couldn't swim.) yet beautiful. You can see your reflection. Hair soaked and clinging to your skin, old jacket barely protecting you, ripped jeans and wet, untied sneakers. You cringe at yourself.
And then, you see something.
A glow. At first it's dull and hazy and you can barely tell what it is- and then you realize it's two little white dots in the water. They almost look like eyes, transfixed on you and shimmering.
Soon, something emerges from the water. A skull, smooth and white, with voids of eyes with the two sparkling lights hovering in the center. It was not anatomically correct at all- rounded with no visible holes (asides from the nasal cavity and eye sockets) and with a smile that had flat, slotted teeth that was small and amazed. If you watch closely, you can see a beautiful blue tail with shining scales swish in the water.
mine. he's my soulmate. he's so... beautiful.
He holds out his arm to you. Your name is on his ulna, in gray against the ivory white. You hold out yours, and in a slightly darker shade than your skin color, says 'sans'. (In all lowercase. Which is weird. Usually, soulmate names were supposed to have the first letter capitalized.)
"(name)?" He asks. His voice is so faint and beautiful, and it makes you want to sob in pure happiness. He's beautiful. Adorable. He's yours. He reaches his hands out to you, making grabby hands. He wants you to pick him up.
"Sans," you say happily, picking him up. His long tail wraps around your torso, effectively soaking it. The rain doesn't stop, and neither does the thunder; and yet, for the first time in your life, you feel whole, and complete.
You're freezing, and soaked with water. Yet the only two things that exist are you and sans. It's bliss. It's wonderful.
The feeling of what meeting a soulmate is.
