Roaring of the Engines
"(Y/n).." smiling gently at the child's whimpers, you allowed Tama to cry it all out in your chest, knowing that despite how tightly she clung to you, her strength wouldn't hold out and Law would successfully pry her from you.
"Tama! Let go!" The raven gave her another tug, but the child still kept her grip with all her might.
"No! I'm going with (Y/n)! We girls gotta stick together!"
Penguin and Shachi groaned from their seats in the Polar Tang, Bepo on the other hand, had already fallen asleep, and considering how early in the morning everyone woke up to try avoiding this very situation, you couldn't blame him.
Unfortunately for everyone, Tama was an early bird.
"For the last time-!" The raven barely dodged a stray kick, "it's for your own good to stay here! The place that (Y/n) stays in houses horrible monsters! And perverts that make those two goons over there pale!" You sweat-dropped at his excuse, having one greenie and a couple of womanizers come to mind from it.
"They can't be any worse than (Y/n) and you! You'll never get me off!" However, just as she said that, her fingers slipped, and a hysterical wail erupted from the girl as Law took the opportunity to make a hasty retreat before she could reach out for you again.
You also took this as an opportunity to make a beeline for the Polar Tang.
"(Y- Y/n).." turning back to Law before you stepped inside the Polar Tang, you could barely stop yourself from laughing, seeing the way Tama struggled so heartily against Law's strong grip, who in contrast, looked pained that he couldn't get near you on your departure.
'Oh, the poor things..'
"I'm sorry I couldn't send you back myself.." it seemed the surgeon had more to say, but wasn't choosing to voice it out, or maybe more accurately, couldn't find the time to do so with how much of a fight Tama was making.
'It's alright'
Smirking at your little scribble, Law glanced back at the boys in the vehicle with a sterner expression, "oi! All of you better stay on guard, Strawhat's counting on you to bring his nakama home!"
Immediately, as if waiting for his cue, Bepo sat upright and yelled a brisk, "sorry!"
'Bye Law'
Smiling sweetly as Shachi helped you into the backseat of the armored vehicle, you gave Law and Tama a silly wave, making sure to bend your arm in awkward ways as you did so to make Tama laugh.
"Next time we meet, I promise I'll be closer to finding a cure for you!"
That was the last you heard of Law as the large roll up door opened and the Polar Tang drove out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Driving through the rubble of the city, you peered out the tinted windows with mild curiosity, as you weren't conscious the last time you were in the Polar Tang.
The buildings went by fast, but unlike in the Sunny, you couldn't quite feel the traction as much.
It wasn't until you made it to the outer reaches of the city that you noticed something that seemed strange.
'Wait- where are all the zombies?'
Now that you thought about it, you didn't see a single monster along the way so far, and the hoard surrounding Law's base seemed thinner than usual, but you thought it was just your imagination at the time.
Before you could think deeper about it, suddenly there was an ungodly roaring of engines, and peering outside, you could see a shitload of motorcycles and off-road vehicles come to life from outta nowhere and dart after you on the road.
"Oh shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!" Penguin cussed up a storm and abruptly slammed on the gas, and with the sudden change in atmosphere, everyone scrambled to take a hold of their guns.
'What's going on?'
Nobody was paying attention to your writing, and even if they did, they wouldn't be able to read it with how messy it was and you wouldn't be able to hear their answer over the roars of the engines.
Considering you didn't know what was happening and were in a confined space between two people, you decided the best thing you could do was to stay calm and believe in your allies.
'How do I always get caught up in these car chases?'
Digging your nails into your seat, you closed your eyes and focused on moving to the lurches of the Polar Tang, distinctly not paying attention to the gunshots erupting on both sides.
You didn't know how long the chase lasted, but suddenly, Shachi screamed out something, and the Polar Tang abruptly came to a stop, forceful enough that if you weren't wearing your seat belt, you'd been launched out the windshield.
Opening your eyes, you realized why you came to a stop.
The Polar Tang was surrounded on all sides.
Penguin slammed his fist into the wheel, visibly frustrated and worn out as all hell, "dammit! Why is it that every time this bastard decides to fuck with us, I'm the one who's driving?!"
You kinda wanted to laugh from how fed up he sounded, but honestly, you were more scared with not knowing who the fuck you were dealing with.
"(Y/n)" craning your head to meet Bepo's eyes, you swore your heart fell into your ass, for the first time seeing a serious expression on the albino's face, "whatever you do, don't piss them off, and don't talk back"
Oh.. a chill went up your spine.
"Oi! All of you drop your guns and back outta the car! You know the routine!" There was a nasty cackle cut off right when the megaphone was turned off, and the roaring of the engines only got more rowdy.
You didn't feel much better seeing everyone in the Polar Tang do exactly as the voice said and back out slowly.
'Oh jesus fuck if I'm gonna die it better be while biting this guy's ass..'
Following their lead, you tossed your pistol out of your satchel, replaced it with your notebook, and let it sling over your hip as you backed out to join the others.
Slowly and shakily walking to join the others, you moved to line up with them, facing what looked to have been a group of goth rappers.
As you took your place between Shachi and Penguin, suddenly the engines roared excitedly as choruses of hoots and catcalls rang out.
"Oh! It's a woman!"
"Look at er boys!"
You felt tempted to hide your face in Penguin's shoulders, but went rigid as a single gunshot cut through all the noise.
Immediately, everything went silent, and you almost wished the engines would start roaring again with the strange vastness that was now echoing in your head.
There was a stir within the center of the crowd, and you perked up, seeing a single man approach with wide, confident strides, the one you assumed to have been the leader.
The redhead's grin made you anxious, because you knew he must've had a reason to stop you guys, and you most definitely wouldn't like it, as it promised nothing good.
The redhead addressed Penguin first, "Birdie"
Penguin growled at the nickname, but didn't make any moves and the man continued to hover over him, "why are you always the one behind the wheel when I come out to play?"
The capped man inhaled sharply, as if the leader struck a nerve, "I dunno, I was thinking of asking you that" the redhead laughed, throwing his head back in entertainment.
"Just lucky then, I guess.." the man's golden eyes seemed to have been peering through Penguin, as if he was trying to melt him with his sight, until he suddenly sidestepped over to you with his grin renewed.
"And who's this-" the man abruptly cut himself off and stared at your chest, completely transfixed.
'Is- he's not checking me out.. right?'
Suddenly, he grabbed a hold of your jumpsuit and pulled you closer, much to the guys' displeasure.
"Hey-!" Shachi's shout was cut off by a warning shot, and the three Heart members held themselves back.
The leader stared at your chest a little longer, until a humorless smirk crept on there as he clicked his tongue, "so Strawhat and that fucker are back on cooperative terms again, just great.." then it finally dawned on you that he wasn't looking at your boobs, but your crew's insignia.
The one Law went through the trouble to patch onto there.
Dropping you back onto your two feet, you took a couple steps back and tried to hold your ground as well as you could in these circumstances, but it was kinda hard to exert dominance against a guy who literally shadowed you.
Damn fucking titan, you ought to chop him down to size.
The redhead though, quirked his non-existent brow after a while of evaluating you, and didn't hesitate to lean in and poke your cheek, which you just now realized was puffed out from all the effort you were putting into sending scary vibes his way.
Whoops.
Laughing at the stupefied expression you made, the leader seemed satisfied with what he was doing, as he turned back to his crew with a grin.
"Change of plans men! We're taking a guest back with us!"
'What?!'
Before you could even freeze up in dread with what that meant for you, the redhead already curled an arm over your shoulders and dragged you along with him towards the cheering hoard of hooligans.
You could barely register the soft cries and shouts of the boys as they tried to get to you, only to be led along by other men to god knows where.
As the leader brought you into the thick of the crowd, you stopped in front of an old school motorcycle, modified to hold one more person, and he leaned down, close enough that you could feel his lips brushing against the shell of your ear.
"When that car blows, you jump onto my Harley, got it?"
Not even being able to think about what he said, there was a loud explosion, and in that instant everything became chaos.
Engines roared to life once more as everyone seemingly drove off in a rush, you felt numb as cackles were warped into screams inside your head, however, to your relief or your horror, your body still moved as instructed.
You didn't even fully realize you jumped onto the Harley until you were already driving out of there.
Suddenly coming back out of it, you tightened your arms, which were looped around the large body, the leader that kidnapped you, and blinked wildly as wind whipped around you left and right, only distorting you even further.
"O- Oi!" Craning your head up to face the redhead, he briefly turned back to check you over with a surly albeit entertained expression, "ease that grip of yours, or I might just toss you off" with that said he turned back to the road, completely ignoring you.
Whatever he was going for, to frighten or intimidate you, it didn't work, as the remark not only snapped you back to reality, but made you angry.
"Mwaugh!" Shouting as loud as you could, you snarled and huffed at his rude behavior, but deflated realizing that the wind was drowning you out.
Hiding your face in the back of his clothes, a defeated sigh erupted from you.
This was gonna be a long day.
