Blowing Things Up

After having listen to Matt for a couple of hours, Y/N settled onto his bed to rest while he continued to work away.

And after some time, Matt passed out where he sat as well, snoring softly as his head hung at an ungodly angle. Y/N didn't want to wake him when she finally felt ready to go move about the castle again, so she left as quietly as possible.

Not quite sure where to go, Y/N eventually found herself wandering into the kitchen where she found Hunk violently attempting to mix some kind of batter. So far, she hadn't really had a chance to talk with Hunk yet, but he seemed quite kind and friendly.

"What'cha doing?" Y/N asked curiously, hands behind her back with a wide smile.

"Oh! Y/N! Well, actually—" He giggled nervously. "I'm trying to bake a get well cake for you!"

"Ah!" Y/N laughed and sat up on the counter. "That is very kind of you, but you didn't have to."

"It's a reason to make cake, I'm not going to pass it up!" Hunk threw his arms in the air like he was almost offended. But, he was right, cake was cake and should be made on any occasion possible.

"Alright, fair. You're quite a good chef! Where did you learn?"

"Well," he began as he tried to fix up the mess of Altean batter. "I did lots back home with my mom, and to me it's like art. There's no better art to practice than the kind you can eat!"

"You'll have to teach me some day!" Y/N smiled. "Whatever we lived on on Aturdir was the same thing everyday."

"That's disgraceful," Hunk grumbled. "AH!" He suddenly hollered, and Y/N noticed the batter seemed to be finally coming together.

"Time to get that stuff in the oven!" Y/N laughed and Hunk agreed.

No more than five minutes into having the cake in the oven and friendly discussion, something went horribly wrong. Either Hunk had the totally wrong kind of batter, or the oven had gone insane because the thing blew up. Blew up.

The oven door flew open and cake batter flew everywhere in a plume of smoke. Once things settled, Y/N and Hunk both peered over the counter and then to one another, suddenly breaking out in laughter.

"What was that?" Keith perked up, waking his somewhat asleep friends all lounging on the couch.

"You're hearing things, Keith." Lance muttered.

"No, I think something exploded." He explained.

"You humans have an affinity for blowing things up!!" Coran squealed as he grabbed some kind of Altean fire extinguisher from the wall and pranced out of the room like a frightened deer. Matt and Shiro were the next ones up and out of their rooms, chasing after the red head.

"Y/N." Lance whispered breathlessly, looking to Keith in fright. He got the message, and both of them bolted for the door just behind the others.

Everyone piled up at the kitchen doorway, fighting for a view. "Coran! Move! What happened?" Keith cried.

But, that was when everyone heard it. Y/N and Hunk's laughter filled the room, just as the food goo did. The group made their way around the counter, and Coran placed his hands on his hips, a slight smile on his face. Sprawled out on the floor were Y/N and Hunk, laughing manically.  Shiro and Coran also began laughing lightheartedly.

"Now, Paladins, do explain yourselves." Coran tried to force the words past the contagious laughter.

"The—cake—exploded." Hunk gasped.

"Poof!" Y/N motioned her hands in the air dramatically and then doubled over on her side in laughter again.

"Alright, you," Shiro laughed lightly. "C'mon we need to talk."

Y/N's face suddenly dropped and laughter ceased. "Are we in trouble?"

Shiro giggled. "No," He reached for Y/N and slung her over his shoulder. "I just want to finally talk to you."

With that, Shiro nodded to his friends and left the room with Y/N. After a while, he sat her down in the lounge on the couch, her vision blurry from being tossed upside down for so long.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" Y/N tilted her head in question.

"First, I just need you to know how glad I am to have you here." He had his hands pressed together. "You have no idea how much I've missed you. Both you and Adam. It's just hard to show being so busy..." He lowered his head slightly in shame. "Second, it's okay to be in pain. You know what Adam would say--"

Y/N shrugged. "I know, but it's really not that bad," She looked to the bruised leg which she swore she could still see in it's mangled state if she focused hard enough. "And thanks. Knowing you're not mad I'm here helps."

"I'd never be mad at you for that," Shiro tried to catch her eyes. "I can be mad at the Garrison all I want, but not you. It wasn't your choice."

Y/N reached forward and wrapped her arms around Shiro. At first he was taken aback, but then roughly wrapped his arms around her and hugged tighter than ever before. "I don't want to lose you, Y/N. You're all I have left."

"No, I'm not. You have your friends here now."

"But of home... of things before the Galra..." His voice caught.

"It's ok." Y/N reassured. "You're not going to lose me."
