Are You Trying To Kill Us?

"If you wanted to hold my hand, you could have just said something." She snickered. "Now c'mon." Y/N tugged at him, trying to pull him off of the ground.

Y/N dragged him along, trying to locate the doorway and flicking every light switch she felt with no luck. She guided them out into the hall and looked either way into the darkness, only the pale blue glow of the emergency lights illuminating the hall ever so slightly.

"Ummm, this doesn't normally happen, does it?" Matt questioned, walking closely behind the girl. She could feel his breath on her neck, the beat of his heart on her back, just able to be felt through her hoodie.

"Control room is that way, maybe we can fix this without having to wake up Coran."

"Right—" Matt all of the sudden succumb to tunnel vision. There was something eery about this, and it only made him think about Lance's story of the castle going all murderous again.

"What's wrong?" Y/N muttered, trying to drag him along.

"Might I remind you, on a night just like this, the castle tried to kill Lance. Twice." He shuddered. "I choose life."

"Matt, chill out. Pidge fixed that."

Just a grumble of uncertainty came from the boy and Y/N continued to drag him down the hall. It was just a short walk to the control room and once they had the issue resolved they could go back to bed. Once there, Matt's nerves settled slightly as the large dome overhead let him see the stars.

Matt slumped into his chair and began scanning the systems, seeing if he could pick out anything obvious. Nothing.

"My computer isn't working. Can I use yours?" Y/N whispered from across the room.

"Sure, go ahead." He yawned gruffly, stretching his entire body. Sleep was one of Matt's favourite things. He didn't like being deprived of it.

"Scootch." She demanded, motioning her hands for him to move over. Instead, Matt just scooted back, patting the spot in front of him. Y/N rolled her eyes, not wanting an argument about where she sat right now.

Matt yet again yawned and a shiver ran down his spine. "Is it getting cold?" The boy suddenly questioned.

"Yeah—the internal temperature stabilizer is off. If we don't fix this, we're gonna freeze in like..."

"Fifteen minutes." He said as he looked over Y/N's shoulder to the screen in his half waken daze.

The pair scrambled to fix the castles systems. They had no clue what they were doing because Coran was typically the one in charge of fixing these things. Half of the language used was indecipherable as it was in Altean, and the red emergency lights flashing really didn't help. Y/N began shiver from the sudden drop in temperature despite the warm hoodie which she was engulfed in. So, Matt shuffled forwards and nestled his head in the crook of her neck, snaking his hands around her waist. He pressed his chest up against her back and immediately felt the body he clung onto tense.

"Matt I need you to help!" She pleaded, trying to stop the shivers. "You're the computer specialist!"

"Y-You can figure it out. I know you can." Matt's teeth chattered as he clung onto Y/N, doing everything he could to keep her warm. Besides, if he were to help now, he'd probably just mess things up even more. His fingers were so cold he'd most likely press the wrong button on accident. He was working on getting better at it, but Y/N was still better at controlling her nerves in these kinds of situations than he was.

"Please hurryyyy my fingers are losing feeling." He whimpered, pressing his nose into her neck even more in an attempt to warm it. A sharp breath left Y/N as he did so, making him snicker.

"W-WoAH ok, NOPE!' Y/N cried, scrambling to fix her mistake as cold air went blasting around the room.

"Y/N ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL US?!" Matt screamed into her ear, making Y/N cringe.

"Ok—ok." She sighed deeply, leaning back. The lights of the ship began to flicker back on and the freezing air began to thaw. Matt was glad he wasn't going to die in a freezing ship when there were much cooler ways to die out there.

"Nice work," Matt sighed and Y/N slumped against him.

"Yeah." She let out a heavy breath of relief, closing her eyes. Sleep had suddenly invaded her systems.

Then Matt felt it too. His eyes became heavy and he rest his chin on her head, running a hand over her soft Y/H/L hair. The girl in his arms shuffled a little and drew her knees to her chest, leaning over into his shoulder. Oddly enough, if there was a sedative guaranteed to work on Matt at anytime, it was running his fingers through someones hair. Instantly, he was asleep.
