Pain. Emotional and physical. Neither are nice, but that's all that Bertholdt could feel at this moment in time. Gone was the light of his life, his wonderful girlfriend, the pillar to his life. He'd just lost the mother of his newborn daughter, Makayla Young.
~Flashback~
A young, ten year old Makayla was with her best friend, a twelve year old Bertholdt. The much taller boy loved Makayla, that was no secret. He loved everything about her, her adorable tsundere personality, the way she would blush whenever he complimented her, despite her always shooting him down afterwards. He also loved her cheerful and friendly side that she showed to him. He loved her beautiful features, especially her honey golden brown eyes that were like pools of gold that he would most likely drown in if he stared into them for more than five seconds. He was pulled from his thoughts when he saw her waving in front of his face.
"Sorry, I was lost in thought." Bertholdt apologised sheepishly.
"Anyway, back to what I was saying....." Makayla's angelic voice lulled him into another dream like state, a small smile grazing his lips.
~Timeskip~
Today was the day that Bertholdt felt like he'd died and gone to heaven. Finally, he felt free. He'd confessed to Mak and she'd said yes; his heart now soaring with happiness and love. The now fifteen year old giant held his new girlfriend close, his steely grey orbs shining with happiness even more than his heart, if possible. This marked the many happy times and sad that they would encounter.
"Makayla, you have no idea how happy you have made on this day." Bertholdt whispered tentatively, holding her small frame flush against his much larger one.
Mak rested her head on his chest, kissing his jaw, "And you have no idea on how long I've waited for this day." A small smile graced her lips.
~Flashback end~
His sad, steel orbs looked down at the bundle in his arms, a small yet sad smile gracing his lips. "Aiyana Young......" He gently held his daughter's hand as he looked at his late girlfriend. "I promise, my love.... that I will not let anything happen to our daughter..." The usually stoic male broke down into tears, holding the small bundle in his arms close to his body in a fatherly manner. The sound of crying and the emotion of sadness and hurt hung heavily within the infirmary room. The man had lost his light, his girlfriend. The pillar that once supported him had crumbled, leaving him broken and shattered, his kingdom had fallen. What is a King without his Queen, what is a sword without it's blade? The way he felt was like a broken sword, useless. He knew, that over time, his heart would heal and he'd be as strong willed as before but, first, he had a daughter to take care of and fight for.
