Bertholdt X Reader- No Longer Alone

(Y/N) was always alone since she was given up. She wasn't even that old. Only 5 years of being in a happy family in Wall Sina. From a Noble's family. (Y/N) scarcely recalled those days, having too much anger and hatred towards the noble family which abandoned her in Trost's orphanage. Many recalled her last name to be that of one of the highest noble family's surname. It was simple after that, she often refused to ever tell her surname.(Y/N) was often bullied and when she wasn't, she was left completely alone. Even the head mistress of the orphanage ignored her.

Soon (Y/N) stopped caring, seeing as it wasn't ever going to stop. Once she was 12, the head mistress enrolled her in the military. She was far from willing. (Y/N) knew it'd be tough, she was weak in both strength and will. What did Miss Mildred think would happen when she died in training alone?

This brings (Y/N) to present day, ignoring everyone. She was often compared to Annie. Even if the blonde haired girl couldn't be farther from (Y/N). The only thing they had in common was the fact that neither of them put any effort in the training. (Y/N) walked behind a cabin, pressing against the wall of it and sliding down to the dry dirt ground. She predicted this would dirty the white pants of the uniform.

(Y/N) looked into the bright blue sky, unaware of the tall and lanky brunette talking with his buff blonde friend. 'Reiner and Bertholdt... Flirty and friendly vs shy and reserved... how did those two become so close despite the differences...?' (Y/N) questioned herself in her mind.

Her (E/C) eyes widened when she heard the hushed yet still loud voice of Reiner speak. "C'mon Bertl! I'm sure she doesn't bite! Just tell her, c'mon!"

Immediately (Y/N) assumed they were speaking of Annie, it was a sort of running joke that the tall boy favored Annie because she was the only other one he really spoke to other than Reiner. Tears sparked in her (E/C) depths, standing. Although they didn't speak much she had grown to admire and rather like Bertholdt.

She walked past the two boys, (H/C) hair covering her face. "Heh.. Next time check around the corner." (Y/N) muttered, both in shock. Though (Y/N) assumed it was because it was the first time she ever spoke. With that (Y/N) walked off, towards the girls' dorms, seeing as training was over.

Bertholdt glared down at Reiner, "What the actual fuck Reiner! You said you checked!" Bertholdt whisper-yelled at his 6'0 blonde friend. Reiner put his hands up in defense, "Geez! I didn't see her! Sorry!" he quickly spoke out. Bertholdt's answer was a simple sigh, looking up at the sky. His hazel eyes held obvious pain but shrugged it off. Going off into the woods by himself, needing time to cool down.

By now it was the usual time that (Y/N) went off, to a nearby lake and cried. "W-why didn't you want me! Pigs! I-its.. why...? Was I not fucking enough!? Huh?" she wailed out, her body shaking as sob after sob went through her body. (Y/N) was admittedly not over the fact that unlike that kid, Eren, she never had a true family. Bertholdt had watched from afar, (Y/N was too wrapped up in her self-pity to notice him.

However he ended up just walking away. Guilt wrenched at his heart yet he wouldn't even know what to say.

A few years later, surprisingly, (Y/N) made it through the training. When Miss Mildred came up to her after the ceremony, it was obvious by her harsh and cruel words that she never even wanted (Y/N) to survive training.

"Why do you have to make my life living hell!" Miss Mildred yelled at the newly appointed soldier who simply looked down, tears sparked in her eyes. The older yet shorter woman continued to yell at the now crying (H/C) haired soldier. "If you were never born-- IT'D BE BETTER FOR EVERYONE! God get it through you skull! No one likes abandoned pieces of shit like you!"

(Y/N) looked down, unaware of the beanstalk like soldier walking up to the two. Reiner just watching as Bertholdt cleared his throat, getting the elderly woman's attention yet (Y/N)'s focus remained on the brick street.

"M-ma'am... I'm fully aware I have n-no clue as to w-what (Y-Y/N)'s life story i-is but..." suddenly he had gotten a boost of confidence, "No. She definitely doesn't deserve the bitchiness that you are showing her." with that Bertholdt grabbed (Y/N)'s arm, leading her away as Miss Mildred stood there, mouth gaping open as the three(Reiner included) soldiers walked away.

Bertholdt held you close, looking at the cabin which all the now soldiers ate at, their last day here. (Y/N) had a deep crimson blush as Bertholdt kept her seated on his lap. "B-bertholdt..." she stuttered out.

"Yeah...?" he responded, playing with her (H/C) locks.

"Why did you do that.. don't you like Annie...?" (Y/N) choked out.

"No. I never liked Annie. 5 years... I saw you crying in the forest.. crying about why someone left you. It was after you caught me and Reiner talking. All that was about you... but when I saw you crying... I-i just assumed a-and... I pretended to like A-annie... I'm sorry..." he mumbled out.

(Y/N) smiled, turning around. Kissing him rather passionately. "No need to apologize. I love you too, Berty~"

Bertholdt had blushed but said those three treasured words back.
