Connie gets down from his horse and stands there in front of his home, devastated and shocked by a Titan lying underneath its wreckage. Reiner tries to call him out but Connie can't move.

Reiner: Connie! Are there any survivors?

Connie: No... None at all.

Reiner and Bertholdt looked everywhere to find survivors. Bertholdt picked some planks of wood wrapped in cloth that can serve as a torch in the night. Connie's face is shadowed and beneath that is his cries of failure.

Connie: It's all over... My hometown, it's gone forever.

Reiner tries to toughen themselves up as he only pats his shoulder and Bertholdt can only look at the boys, not saying anything about Connie's failure. But then Gelgar gets back to them as he talks to the rookies.

Gelgar: Hey! Something's strange here. Has anyone spotted any bodies?

Reiner: No...

Bertholdt: I haven't.

Connie shakes his head to answer him which makes Gelgar look confused and has so many questions.

Gelgar: How is that even possible? Titans come and not a single drop of blood?

Scout G: Everyone must've escaped! It means nobody here was eaten. Including your family too.

The girl Scout assumes that in positivity making Connie's spirit has lifted and has high hopes that she's right.

Connie: I see... That's gotta be it!

Scout G: Yeah. It's unbelievable to think Titans ate everyone without leaving blood behind.

Gelgar: *skeptical* 'That's not all that's unbelievable. If the entire village was evacuated, why would the Titans obliterate these houses with nobody in them?'

But unknown to them, Meijin was watching in the shadows eavesdropping on their little chat. He has that same thinking with Gelgar and his theory all points to one way.

Meijin: 'The stables there are still functioning and the horses are there doing their time... Unless...'

Gelgar: Everyone got their torches? Let's move! Our mission now is to locate and assess the breach in the wall!

Reiner: Yes, sir!

Connie is about to move out and join when something, disturbing happens. As he was about to get on the horse, he heard something.

???: Wel... come... home...

Connie turns to the Titan and sees its eyes dead looking at him with its mouth moving, speaking its first phrase to him. Connie is disturbed and in shock, he's sweating bullets when he looks at the Titan.

Connie: Just now...

But suddenly someone shook him back to reality and saw Reiner on his horse in front of him.

Reiner: We're falling behind Gelgar!

Connie: Reiner? Did you hear that? The Titan...

Reiner: I didn't hear anything at all. Enough with the chit-chat. Focus on the mission!

Connie: But it... I think... I don't know how, but... My mom-

Reiner: Connie! Do you understand the situation we're in?!

Conny was surprised when Reinre shouted at him, Meijin narrowed his eyes at him specifically as he listened to his conversation.

Reiner: Hundreds of thousands of lives depend on whether we complete this mission or not! Your family might have escaped but it's not over yet! If you're a soldier, put the mission first!

Connie: Yeah. Good point. You're right about that!

Reiner then left in a hurry as Conny just followed him. The Titan looked at Connie leaving in a hurry. But then it moved its eyes twitching towards Meijin as Meijin looked back at her and whispered resolutely to her ears.

Meijin: My friends will find a way to release you from those chains...

He disappears into the shadows and leaves the premises, without getting caught on his trail heading towards the Gundam.

The Western team which Ymir and Historia are part of, led by Nanaba are heading towards the Walls after the hours of Titan spotting and evacuating the remaining villagers nearby.

Henning: We're getting close to the wall now, so no people are living in the area.

Nanaba: Right. That didn't take us very long. All right, let's head to the south.

Ymir: What for? There shouldn't be any villages south of here.

Nanaba: We need to find the location where the wall was breached. We'll ride along the wall from the west until we can find it.

Ymir: But Christa and I don't have our ODM gears. There are probably Titans roaming everywhere to our south. We may become Titan fodder. Let the two of us withdraw from the front.

Christa: Ymir...

Nanaba: You can't. I'll need somebody to relay back a report. I know how you feel, but you signed up for this as a soldier.

As they pass through the lake Christa suggests something suicidal to Ymir that even with her high intellect compensating for her low combat skills, it's not enough.

Christa: I'm fine with putting my life on the line. After all, I'm the one who chose to join the Scouts. But... it's not the same for you.

She then remembered back when the intense night orientation for the Scouts began and when they signed up for the frontlines. Ymir remains stoic while Christa is nervous. They both look at Erwin and Y/n but are more focused on the Meister due to how is he the early part of the frontlines with his rumored monstrosity in tow.

Christa: The only reason you joined the Scouts was because-

Ymir: Hmph! You think I did it for you?!

Christa: Then why are you even here? You kept trying to convince me to join the Military Police. But then you gave that privilege to me! There's no way I'm good enough to make the top 10 on skill alone. I'm sure if I asked anyone, they'd say you deserved to be in it, not me. I don't know how you did it, but...

Christa then remembers when they both witnessed Y/n's demonstration of how he fights without his mobile suit, thinking this kind of skill is on par with the MP and it inspired them to go this far.

Christa: So why? Why would you go that far for me?

Christa can only see Ymir not answering as she only asks about the possibility.

Christa: Does it... have to do with my family?

Ymir didn't answer for a few seconds before she admitted the truth, well some of it.

Ymir: Yeah, it does. Christa, don't worry about it. The only reason I'm here... is for myself and nothing else.

Christa: I see...

Christa only looked her head down as Ymir saw her face full of relief and happiness.

Christa: Thank goodness...

Ymir's eyes were not fully relieved by this reaction at all as she looked at her with hidden intent.

At the Eastern Defense Line, a Garrison is luring an Abnormal towards his comrade's firing lane for the cannons.

Garrison: The target has come within range!

Garrison Commander: All cannons, prepare to fire!

Kitz: Not yet! Wait for the order!

Garrison: It's ready!

The garrison gets out of the line of fire as the Titan narrowly grabs him.

Kitz: Fire!

All cannons have fired on the Titan tumbling it on its knees as the elites come into play to kill it. Ian and Mitabi cut their arms off cleanly and Rico gets in for the kill on the nape.

She returns to the safe position on a rooftop as she slides and stops when she sees the killed Titan fall on the ground.

Rico: Did it...?

Ian: Yeah, it's dead.

Mitabi: Let's keep this up.

Rico: No... The Titans' strength is in their numbers. If they attack as a group, this line won't stand a chance. But...

Rico then looks at her hands as her vision briefly sees the hands of Marina and sees the face of Setsuna with blood splatter on his face and his world's dark cruelty. Rico felt her head ache a bit as she mutters to herself.

Rico: What is this feeling? Something isn't right... 'Everytime I kill these Titans, I can slowly hear audible sounds of... crying people'

On Hannes' squad, they circled around the walls to check if there's any hole in it as the sun sets down and slowly nightfall is here.

Hannes: This is strange...

Garrison: Captain Hannes! Is something wrong?

Hannes: We haven't even spotted a single Titan yet. We've got to be getting close to the hole now. And yet, doesn't it seem awful quiet around here? I don't like this... Hopefully we can sneak in and out without stirring up a storm.

On top of the walls are stationed harpoons and cannons with the Garrisons guarding the premises.

When night has begun, clouds covered the roads of the Gelgar team, leaving them in the dark with no visual of anything on their sights. They pulled out their torches to see in the dark but as far as the light of the torch can reach, it only surrounds them.

Gelgar's shaky breaths are the only thing crickets, and any other small animals can hear in the distance while the others are sweating bullets.

Gelgar: 'When? When will they show up? When will it happen? At any second, they could leap out from the shadows.'

With each step they take, the more pressure is being put down on their spirits and bodies.

Gelgar: 'No... The closer we get tot he hole, the more inevitable it becomes. Damn it! This is driving me crazy!'

As they keep walking and walking with their pressures almost exceeding to what they can handle, Gelgar heard something as his eyes looked at his front and saw fires in the distance. As it gets closer it was Nanaba and her team walking towards them. Both teams are surprised when they met each other, going after the "hole" by scaling the walls.

Gelgar: Did you follow the wall here, too?

Nanaba: Yeah. Where did you find the hole?

Gelgar: Huh?

Nanaba: We didn't find anything to the west. Didn't you find it your way?

Now this realization created a chill on their backs as Gelgar answers her question.

Gelgar: No... There's no hole this way either.

Lynne: Is it possible we missed it?

Henning: No way. Not a hole big enough for Titans to use.

Gelgar: Should we go back and look again?

Nanaba: We'll need to, but the horses and the rest of us are exhausted. If only we had some moonlight...

But as soon as she said that, the winds flows away the dark clouds as it released a bright moonlight form the skies. But as the moonlight shone down, they saw something in the distance.

Gelgar: What's that?

A castle nearby with something silhouette kneeling over there.

Henning: Castle ruins?

Christa: Wait, there's something over there...

Ymir: That's...

Connie: Y/n's Gundam...

In the castle lies Y/n in a basement of the castle, who's face is shadowed and his bangs are covering it up.

The other Scout team continues their travel in the middle of the night, hoping to find the other recruits still wandering around. Hange is looking at the crystals from Annie's Titan ability and Y/n's Gundam Armor, Levi seems to get the attention and calls her out.

Levi: Hange... Are your hobbies so boring that playing with rocks is somehow fun for you?

Hange: Well, you can say that. But these are no ordinary rocks. It's a hardened fragment of the skin left behind by the Female Titan and the other came from Y/n's Gundam Armor.

Armin saw this and found something that intrigued him.

Armin: Huh? It didn't disappear?

Hange: Right. Annie reverted from a Titan, but it's still intact even though it broke off her body. Meanwhile, Y/n's Gundam might not be as hard as it can be, it was chipped off during his battle against her. Both didn't evaporate or disappear. So I thought- "What if its nature compared to a piece of the Walls are made of the same material?" Turns out I was right, the wall is a barricade full of Titans made out of hardened Titan skin.

Mikasa: *eye widen* Armin said the same...

Armin: Then-!

Hange: Let me finish, Armin. Then we've got a chance to plug the hole of Wall Rose while we press on. Now the only requirement is a perfect boulder to plug it.

She looked at Eren which made Eren connect the dots and was surprised.

Eren: Using me... to seal the wall?

Hange: It should be made of the same material, and seeing how the hardened section won't evaporate, even after you revert from a Titan, it's possible.

Armin thinks this for a second and answers Hange's option.

Armin: I think it's well worth the risk to try. Assuming it would work, reclaiming Wall Maria is feasible, too. We've had to transport a large quantity of materials and supplies until now. That's why the need for outposts past the wall limited our progress. But if we don't have to accommodate supply wagons, we could quickly make our way to Shiganshina. So what if we carried out the plan at night?

Meanwhile, in Utgard Castle, they meet up with Y/n who seems to be setting up the campfire.

Nanaba: Y/n...

Y/n: Oh... It seems you guys are the third to come here...

Gelgar: Third?

When he sparked his flint and steel for the third time, it ignited the coal, and the campfire was already set. While picking up their bearings, the parked horses drink water while the Scout elites begin talking to Y/n with the recruits joining the conversation. Y/n just rummages on his bag as he begins to pull out things he found in the castle.

Reiner: So somebody has been here recently.

Y/n: Yeah. I found a firepit, a kettle, a stove, two metal cups, two mats, a toolbox, and a grinder. It's for something to drink.

Lynne: That's odd for a place this near the wall. Some bandits probably used it as a base. I said "Ruins of Utgard Castle" on one of the signs. Who would've thought there was a castle around here?

They felt interested in the coms device that he found, but Reiner and Bertholdt were the ones most curious about it. But then Gelgar came out from the door behind the scout and was holding something as he talked weirdly to them.

Gelgar: Hey, check it out. Look what I found.

Lynne: Gelgar... Is that a bottle of booze?

Gelgar: What the heck does it say?

Y/n noticed his face reddish and he knows what it meant as he coldly asks him.

Y/n: Gelg, did you just take a sip on it?

Gelgar: Huh, what are you-

Y/n: Put it down now, or I'm gonna destroy it with my weapon?

Gellar didn't retaliate anymore knowing the guy he was facing wasn't tolerating alcoholic drinks, even in front of him.

Henning: How convenient. All this contraband to enjoy for ourselves.

Lynne: Now you're making us sound like the bandits.

The rest just remained quiet for a minute until Nanaba's eyes looked at Y/n with confusion. She was worried about his expression when they saw him, his eyes were covered by the front ends of his hair. It's almost like giving off something of a silent anger.

Nanaba: Private Y/n...

Y/n: What...?

Nanaba: Have you been to an experience where you worked hard for your own future but such a high power oppresses you and tells you that you're nothing more than a slave?

Y/n was quiet by this as he thought to himself of telling a white lie. Because for the past years, he's been hiding his true origins despite his comrades seeing strange things he pulled off and manages to get away from the doubt. But then, a scenario popped into his head.

Y/n: I didn't. But one of my friends does.

Y/n told him of a boy with his group whose life was only on the battlefield, fighting.

Y/n: Long ago, he was just a poor kid, being discriminated against on the streets, so he had no choice but to go to violent ways.

The youngsters were terrified of this because they knew what this meant. Sasha asks him.

Sasha: Huh? But why?

Y/n: He has no purpose in his life. But he has his sides from being violent to being a good kid. His eyes judge all the people he sees and surround him. Those cold blue eyes look at the person he sees, analyzing them deeply. He met a friend whom he saved and asked him what was next for them after he killed the one who tried to kill them both.

Y/n tells them a short version of the life of Mikazuki Augus, his friend Orga, and his group Tekkadan.

Y/n: So they have joined a military program and undergo an excruciating procedure to make their mark and prove themselves to live and find their purpose. He even saw his comrades being oppressed by his bosses and seniors. But then they manage to find a chance to break the chains and fight but also live like an Ironflower that never wilted until the end.

When he told them about this, they found themselves asking of these groups. "How did they meet their end?" "How did they fight?" and many more. But Nanaba asked it verbally.

Y/n went silent for a moment but answered her with honesty.

Y/n: Yep... They have.

Nanaba had doubts about his tone when she looked into Y/n's eyes. She saw his eyes' expression of bittersweetness mixed with grateful expression in it. But the next second surprised her, he saw his eyes glowing yellow like an Innovator from Gundam 00 as Y/n would know. Just then Gelgar who has dropped the booze has just instructed the Scouts.

Gelgar: Okay, get restful sleep. We embark four hours before sunrise; we'll take turns keeping watch despite the Titans not being able to roam around at this hour.

But then something came to Krista's mind about why their enemies' points of entry did not appear around the walls.

Krista: Um... What if the wall isn't broken after all? If the wall hasn't been breached, how are the Titans getting in?

Gelgar hasn't got an answer to it as everybody does, but for Y/n he has seen big things do impossible things like his Gundam. But then again, he doesn't want to call his team stupid but he knows their stupidity is rising and coming to bite them back soon.

Gelgar: Finding the answer to that, is our job for tomorrow.

As Gelgar leaves, they all start spilling their experiences on their side while doing their job to evacuate survivors.

Krista: Maybe it's not nearly as bad as we thought from the start.

They all looked at her and she lowered her head and Y/n just eyed her briefly and thought to himself.

Y/n: 'Krista Lenz... No, that's not your name...'

Krista: I'm just saying it, but...

Y/n: I get what you meant. I still feel that itch on my skin of somebody skinning whoever is being a smart-ass against us.

Henning: Yeah, there's barely any Titans around here. If the wall was broken, that is.

Nanaba: The only group we've seen was during the initial sighting.

Reiner: I wanna ask, Y/n. How are you feeling? Despite riding that strange transportation of yours, you still looked like have a lot more stamina in you.

Y/n: Maybe, but also it disorients me due to the speed I push it. That's why I'm being careful of myself.

Bertholdt: That's an astonishing transportation if I would say something about it. Though, why does the Titans not come after you with that loud noise it makes?

Y/n: Well, can you ask about that to the engineers here?

Bertholdt was silenced by this because he knew it would only complicate things further. But speaking of complications, Ymir asks Conny because she has been keeping an eye on him for quite some time.

Ymir: Conny, what about your village?

Conny: It was destroyed. Crushed to sticks and rubble by the Titans.

Ymir and Krista's eyes were looked down in gloom of this; Reiner and Bertholdt just looked at Connie. Y/n while listening, counts the bullets he has on his pistol as he puts them in the magazine, one by one.

Ymir: I see... *pretends* How awful...

Until Connie decided to tell them something the strangest thing he saw there.

Connie: But nobody there was eaten. I think they all escaped, so there's that to be thankful for. I think they all escaped, so there's that to be thankful for.

Ymir: Wait, wasn't the village destroyed?

Conny: The houses and stuff were wrecked, but the villagers made it out safely. If anyone had eaten there, it would've left their remains or bloodstains around there. But there wasn't any of that, so it's the only explanation.

The room is silent and only the clicks of bullets enter the magazine that Bertholdt was watching.

Conny: But still... I can't stop thinking about it... There was that Titan at my house. It couldn't move on its own, but it was lying right on top of my house. It's weird...

Y/n then puts down the last magazine he has, with a total of 4 pistol magazines. Next, he attaches the barrel he has as Connie continues to tell his side of the story.

Conny:: I don't know why, but it reminded me of my mother... What does this-?

Reiner: Conny... You're still saying that? You-

Ymir: *snorts and starts laughing* What an idiot! Do you think your mother might have been that Titan?! Then how come you're so damn short, huh? Come on, Conny! I knew you were pretty stupid, but this is taking it to another level!

As Ymir continued to laugh Connie just facepalmed at this.

Connie: Would you shut up? This is absurd.

Ymir: If this theory of yours is correct, that means your father had to be a Titan, too. Otherwise, you know they couldn't do it-

Connie: Shut up! Go to sleep, you wench!

But then he saw the look of Y/n not even joking around more than the others who looked at the two in disturbance. The sounds of the gun's barrel attached and loaded the magazine only died the laughter.

Y/n: You know the ironic thing about your side of the story is, Connie?

Connie: What?

Y/n loads the first bullet ready but he locks the safety first as he tells his side of the story.

Y/n: While I rescued some survivors around, I noticed that some villages were destroyed but didn't leave any remains of flesh or blood. If your theory could be somehow possible, then somebody forced them to become like this... And if I find that one person...

They all saw the look of Y/n's dead and cold killer eyes as he leveled the pistol above his face pointing the barrel of the gun to the side.

Y/n: He will pay for the sins he committed... 

Meanwhile, the Scouts have stationed themselves on Wall Rose, Ehrmich District. But as Pastor Nick walked forward, he was met by the looks of the people inside the district. Even Levi saw this too but he already expected it as he just kicked Nick to make him move.

Levi: Hey, keep it moving. You'll end up like a little lost kid.

Nick: T-This is...

Levi: What did you expect to see here? This is what happens when the wall falls.

All people with such gloom and despair covered them all like the nights of the sky with no stars to shine them down. Even the children begged to call their parents but they were separated due to the crowd. Even Nick felt sympathy for the children but then Levi grabbed his shoulder and glared at him.

Levi: Hey, where do you think you're going? Take a good look at the faces of people who've lost everything. The faces of everyone you and your people abandoned.

Nick can feel his eyes being shrunk and shaking in fear by those people, slowly eating his ego and pride as the leader of their church.

Levi: Just like how it happened in Trost and Shiganshina. If your church's wish comes true, and Titans come flooding through the walls, we'll all be gobbled up in their disgusting mouths and die in the most miserable way possible. All digested, as one.

At the Scout Regiment HQ branch in Ehrmich, they are all geared up and armed to rescue their remaining Scouts back at the castle. Hange talks to Eren about the plan.

Hange: Once we leave Ehrmich, we'll be in Titan territory.

Moblit: Eren? Think you can ride a horse?

Eren: Yes. I feel fully recovered now.

Moblit: Yours is ready at the west lift. Let's hurry.

But then Hange saw LLevi coming back with horrified Nick as Molit tried to call her.

Moblit: Section Commander. We should hurry.

Hange: Give me a minute, Moblit.

Hange then walked towards them and asked Nick.

Hange: Did that change your mind yet?

Nick didn't talk as Hange's patience was running out with them prepping to leave and commence rescue.

Hange: We don't have time for this! You know, don't you?! Will you talk, or won't?! Make up your mind already!

Nick: I cannot say anything. The other believers are the same as I am, and that will never change.

???: Maybe this will.

But then Hange gets out of the way as Nick turns around and sees a fist impacting his face completely. Levi looks to see who it is and is caught off guard he never notices his presence. But everyone was shocked to see somebody sucker punch the leader with such force. It was Meijin and he put his heel down to his body and removed the gold insignia of their church around his neck.

Meijin: I don't want to resort to this, but I've been watching you for so long that I got no choice but to choose this length just to make you talk for the sake of the survival of all. Not to your higher-ups that has been hiding in the shadows

Nick now fears for his life and cannot speak due to his face being beaten and bruised after the punch. His fear only grew as Meijin started to bend the material he was given for his title of their church slowly. He gave in after it was about to be folded in half and talked to him in pain.

Nick: There is somebody...

Meijin: *stops* Huh...

Nick: There is somebody... That the Order of the Walls instructed us to monitor...

Meijin: Who?

Hange: Monitor?

Nick: That person joined the Scout Regiment as of this year. You have to find her at once. That's all I know...!

Meijin: Smart move. Now you get to take a nap...

Meijin used the title medal to hit him in the forehead and knocked him out. This made everyone surprised that Meijin was beyond the level of Y/n. Just then, somebody opened the door to give a report.

Sasha: Excuse me! Sasha Braus! 104th Cadet Corps!

Sasha arrived after she rescued her family and reported to Erwin. She now holds the message from Erwin on a parchment. She looked towards the commotion and just breathed calmly and walked towards Hange,

Sasha: Um, sorry to disturb everyone. This is for you, Section Commander. I was entrusted to deliver this message to you.

Hange: Oh, uh... Thank you. Good work.

Hange takes it and leaves along with the rest, but not before leaving the unconscious body of Nick and giving Sasha her reward, a baked potato. As Eren, Mikasa, and Armin geared up, Eren's eyes were brightened and wide realizing who it was, along with his friends piecing it together.

Eren: Her?

Hange: Eren? Do you know who it is in the 104th?

Eren: She's the smallest one of us.

Armin: She's got long golden hair. And also...

Mikasa: She's always hanging around Ymir.

Levi: ...

Hange: Ymir?

Meijin: Looks like I found her.

They looked at the man wearing glasses, who had the same device as Y/n, and read the name.

Meijin: Krista Lenz... Y/n is with her right now. Get prepped up, I'll meet you all outside.

He didn't let them ask for questions as they saw him running away and leaving them alone.

At Utgard Castle, Reiner wakes up as everybody is taking a rest he opens the door where Gelgar came through. Reiner saw Ymir rummaging around on a supply box that she opened while using a candle to make her see what was inside.

Reiner: Ymir? What are you doing?

Ymir: Prowling at night, Reiner? Come to see me? I'm shocked. I was under the impression that you had no interest in women.

Reiner: Yeah. And it doesn't seem like you have an interest in guys, either.

Ymir: *scoffs* I thought I'd use this time to scavenge for something that might fill my stomach. This'll probably end up being my last meal.

Reiner then slowly closes the door and asks Ymir.

Reiner: About Conny's village, were you joking around on purpose?

Ymir: ...

Reiner: I'd appreciate it if you did more of that. So that he doesn't keep worrying about his family.

Ymir: What are you talking about?

Reiner: But when it comes to Y/n...

Ymir: That guy? Let me be honest with you when all of us saw the look in his eyes. It's almost as if something snapped in him.

Reiner: Or has it already been snapped way earlier than now?

Ymir: Whatever. *picks up a can* Thai might do the trick. Not that I like herring, but-

But suddenly when Ymir said this, she paused in disturbance of herself. She felt like she knew about this. Reiner asks her if there are more cans in the box.

Reiner: Is there any more? Can I see it?

Ymir: Go for it.

Ymir gave the can she picked up to Reiner and he analyzed it.

Reiner: Canned food, huh?

But suddenly when he turned the can around, he saw something that made him gasp shockingly.

Reiner: What.. are these letters? I can't read any of it. Does this say herring on it?

Reiner's expression went dark and Ymir was just paused, staying still there for a minute.

Reiner: You can read this language?

Reiner: Ymir... You're...!

Ymir looked at him but then they suddenly saw Y/n looking at the two and said something.

Y/n: German? Yes and no.

Reiner: Y/n...

Ymir: ...

Y/n: You know what world I'm in, right now? A world where fellow humans are killing each other. All for what they believe is right for all people in the world but it turns out to be a prediction for bloodbath, regardless of what they are. *clenched his fist* 'I'm in the middle of a long civil war... That King...'

But suddenly the scream of Lynne woke everyone up.

Lynne: Everyone, wake up! Get to the tower! Quickly!

When they got up to the tower, they saw what they couldn't believe in their eyes.
