Chapter 3: The Nine Lives of Pochita

Shiganshina

Titans were roaming around the empty city that was devoided of all human life as blood stains were dried up and littered the streets as there was little signs of life whatsoever. Recently they had a buffet of over 250,000 refugees and a couple of Garrison Soldiers and now they were wandering around the city aimlessly.

In a demolished house, a severed corpse was there and it was of an unfortunate woman. The corpse only had her torso with one arm attached with the head nowhere to be seen at all as rubble obscured the body from being found by any titan.

In a dull colors of the demolished house that was now gray with dust and red with blood, the color orange suddenly appeared as Pochita opened his eyes tiredly and rasped out loud as he coughed up his own blood. His lower half was bitten clean off as he crawled towards the corpse in a desperate attempt to get to it before he dies.

Using his two small front legs, he crawled towards it as fast as he could before he finally reached it and bit into the arm. To his horror, he felt no blood from the wound as he tried the shoulder but got nothing still. Trying his luck, Pochita bit down on the chest and thankfully he received a little bit of blood but that was all he needed as his lower half regenerated quickly.

The rest of his spine took form before flesh, blood and organs as Pochita sucked the remainder of the blood out of the corpse before releasing his bite. Looking at the corpse, the devil felt disgusted for this human to receive such an easy ending to her life.

"What a weak attempt to survive." Pochita thought in disgust before he heard stomping coming his way and he immediately took off in the other direction as fast as he could before leaping into a house and hid as the Titan passed by the house.

Peeking out to make sure the coast was clear, Pochita followed behind the Titan quietly to not draw any attention to itself. If Clayde was here, they both can possibly kill this Titan but the thought of Clayde made Pochita widen his eyes.

Where was Clayde?

Thinking back to the last thing he remembered, Clayde and him were butchering the creepy looking Titan before it managed to turn the tables on them and separated them completely with Clayde being knocked away and he was under a demolished house as the impact knocked him out while damaging his skull.

Now, he wakes up to see the whole city quiet as Titans roamed all over the place with no clear goal in mind at all. Pochita needed to get going and find a safe place to rest otherwise he's gonna be on the run for a long time and will eventually lose his luck.

"If only I wasn't reduced to this weak form, that's the reason these beasts are still alive." Pochita thought angrily before he continued to follow the Titan to make sure that it didn't turn around or anything as he used the shadows to his advantage.

As Pochita continued to follow in the Titan's shadow, he noticed Wall Rose and deduced that was where Clayde had to be located... if he was still alive. No, his friend had to still be alive since they both have survived hardships that had pushed them to their limits. But then again, these were Titans and unlike the soldiers who fight them, Clayde didn't have ODM gear at all.

He continued to think before suddenly the head of the Titan in front of him exploded as blood splattered everywhere and the body fell to the ground.

Immediately Pochita dove behind an upside down cart and he peeked to see that the corpse was now disintegrating as a lone figure was seen walking towards it before looking down at it with a neutral face.

The woman had light red hair that was in the form of a braid as she wore a simple white collared shirt and black pants along with a simple black tie and brown shoes. Her eyes were a strange yellow and red pattern as her smile was too... normal.

"Hmm, strange creatures dwell in this part of the world." The woman spoke as she kneeled down and touched the corpse as the heat didn't seem to affect her at all as Pochita narrowed his eyes at her as he sensed a familiar presence within her.

The woman stood back up before distant stomping was heard as the ground shook before Pochita turned around and saw a 10 meter titan lumbering towards her on all fours before it dove at her to grab her and eat her. She remained calm before she held her hand out with two fingers pointed at the Titan and her thumb was up before she simply said.

"Bang."

The titan's body exploded immediately as blood splattered all over her as it steamed before it began to slowly evaporate as the woman's eyes looked around and Pochita instinctively stayed out of sight as he heard her mutter.

"Now where is that devil I sensed?"

She muttered with a hint of menace within it as Pochita dove into the intersecting street as he hurried as fast as he could and took a sharp right turn before sliding to a stop as another Titan was beginning to come into view and this was a fat one as it walked down the street.

Diving into another house, Pochita quickly made his way to the roof before he finally reached the top and laid low as the Titan was now walking in front of the house and looked to its right to see the woman but suffered the same fate as the previous titan.

"Bang."

Pochita shielded his eyes as blood once again splattered all over him and everything around the vicinity as he peeked and saw the woman covered in blood and had a psychotic look on her face.

"It would seem that the devil is here without question... what it is specifically is unknown." She muttered to herself.

Pochita inched a bit closer to see the woman in the middle of the street in front of the house as she had a finger to her lips before her head slowly began to turn his direction. Thinking quickly, Pochita hid behind the chimney as the woman's head creepily looked in his direction before he heard her sigh.

"I will have to investigate this thoroughly."

A WHOOSH! Sound was heard and Pochita looked to see the woman had disappeared and where she was a gust of wind that dissipated instantly. He let out a sigh of relief but not before the recognition of who that was exactly appeared and it was not someone weak.

"The Control Devil, one of the most notorious devils of the Underworld." Pochita thought, "It would seem that the woman is its latest reincarnation but what drew her all the way out here? She couldn't have sensed me at all but yet she still came here even though she was close to me, are there more devils here besides me?"

These thoughts worried Pochita greatly as there were probably more devils here that were looking to kill him and gain his power. He needed to get out of here and out of range in case she decided to return with backup so moving swiftly. Pochita made his way back downstairs and continued running down the street towards Wall Rose as he passed multiple houses and Titans in the distant streets before they could spot him.

After a couple more close calls with Titans, Pochita finally made underneath the tall and imposing Wall Rose but there was just one tiny problem, how was he going to get to the other side?

With Shiganshina breached, Wall Rose was reinforced as best the humans could but even Pochita knew that those improvements would do nothing to stop that gigantic titan that broke Wall Maria. Sure, it could stop the regular titans from breaching the wall but not for long and these mortals will lose the fight for sure.

So why was he thinking about Clayde?

He was also a human so why is he worried about Clayde and not about all the other humans in this world?

Pochita shook his head as he tried to focus and scout the wall for any cracks or something that can help him get to the other side and as he looked up, he saw that Garrison Soldiers were in scout position to make sure nothing happened. Growling in frustration, the devil travelled parallel to the wall and further he travelled, the more hopeless the situation became as there was no visible way over the wall at all.

The sun was now setting as Pochita panted slightly from all the running he did as he encountered a titan but managed to lose it in the buildings but he found no way over the wall at all.

Now, Pochita hunkered on a bed in a random house as he yawned and smacked his lips loudly before looking at the pillow of the bed and remembered when Clayde relaxed on his bed while Pochita sat on his stomach, listening to another one of his goals.

"One day I hope to go beyond the walls and find something meaningful, you know? I mean, my mom is meaningful but come on, there's gotta be more than just these walls! Just think about it Pochita, outside of these walls there are probably better places than this, better people and better food!" Clayde ranted.

"Arf!" Pochita barked happily.

"Exactly! Think about all the fun things you and I can do! Eat some good food, live a luxurious life and maybe even get ourselves a girlfriend!"

Pochita deadpanned at Clayde who realized what he said.

"I mean me, of course. You should probably get a... bitch? No, a female dog! Wait, that's the same thing... You know what I mean!" He said as Pochita rested his head on Clayde's chest as the human rubbed his head.

"There's gotta be more than just sitting on our asses and doing absolutely nothing useful at all, not to mention all those titans. If I ever get some crazy strong powers, I'm gonna kill every last Titan out there so we can finally be able to explore the outside world in peace." Clayde vowed as he looked at the dog.

"We both have had hardships and its not fair that others get opportunities while we don't... but sadly there's nothing I can do about it besides sitting here and dreaming." Clayde spoke bitterly before yawning loudly, "Good night, Pochita."

The human fell asleep as Pochita was still awake but he was staring at Clayde's sleeping face as the boy eluded him. Clayde wants a good life for the both of them and not just himself which peaks Pochita's interest. The devil has seen what these mortals will do for power and how they would commit atrocities (not like Pochita cared or whatnot) but Clayde just wants a simple goal and if he had the power, he'll achieve it.

"Don't worry Clayde, your dreams will come true. I'm sure of it." Pochita thought with a little bit of doubt before closing his eyes and he fell asleep.

Now as Pochita replayed that night in his head and that final sentence he spoke before he fell asleep, he felt no doubt that Clayde will do everything he can to make his dreams come true and to make Pochita be apart of it.

When they first met, Pochita was wary of Clayde and didn't trust him at all but as the years went by, the devil found himself tolerating the boy and now sees him as the only friend he's ever actually had.

Pochita narrowed his eyes as the moon rose in the sky as he revved his chainsaw threateningly.

"Don't worry Clayde, your dreams will come true and I will make sure of it....my friend."

HOPE YOU ENJOY!!!
