9:00 a.m.

Seventeen-year-old YouTube gamer Kylie Berry woke up at this time. She had long dark hair and frequently wore eye-catching clothes. Today, Kylie was wearing a green t-shirt with a 1-UP Mushroom on the back. She had been preparing to play a ROM hack she found online, and she could not have been more eager.

"Today's the day! I've wanted to film this episode for a long time," Kylie declared.

Heading down to the basement, Kylie went to the family computer to start playing. After logging on, she noticed that she had received one new e-mail.

"What's this?" she asked.

Opening the e-mail, she found that it came from an anonymous sender, with the subject being, "Game to try."

Even though Kylie had wanted to play the ROM hack for some time, she decided to reschedule filming it and see what this new game had to offer.

Turning on the camera, she started her intro.

"What's up, guys? kylieren77 here with a new game to play. This time, it's gonna be something different."

She continued, "Recently, I got this e-mail with a game file attached. It said I should play it as soon as possible. Well, I scanned it for viruses, and it seems to be okay. Let's do this."

Once the game started, she began to commentate.

"This kind of looks like an NES game. But I've never seen anything like this before," Kylie observed.

The main character was a man with brown hair of average height. He was wearing a green polo shirt, khakis, and brown shoes. The hallway he was in was dark, save for the candles on the walls lighting the way. Kylie moved her sprite across the checkered floor until she came to a wooden staircase.

"So you only go forward? Real exciting," Kylie said.

Kylie went up the stairs and found that it seemed to go on forever, with nothing to see but candles hanging on the walls. Then after a few minutes, the player made it to the top. To the right lay a large pink door with a crimson border. Figuring this led to the next area, Kylie had her sprite move towards the door.

Before she could advance, though, the man in the game began to glitch out, and a loud buzzing noise emanated from the computer. After a few seconds, the computer screen went a dark blue.

Now weirded out by what happened, Kylie found that her computer did not respond to any of her commands.

"Oh, for fuck sake!" she shouted, banging her fist on the keyboard table.

Suddenly, the door to her left swung open without warning. Even though the room it led to had ventilation, there was no way it could have produced enough force to move the door like that. In addition, a crack suddenly appeared on the left side of Kylie's computer screen.

"Okay...?" Kylie said.

Even though the events just had to be investigated, Kylie decided to focus on her computer first and then question later what in the hell just happened.
