Dear Cody Maverick
Yes! Hello! Before I begin this, I just want to say that this is a song fic, and is based off of "Your Obedient Servant" from Hamilton, just in case you didn't know. The song does have minor foul language which I won't include in the book but if you want to listen to the song, I will be including it! It's probably my favorite in the soundtrack and it just kinda compelled me to make this!
It's going to be a little weird, because most of the dialogue is song lyrics and names are switched to the characters, but enjoy!
Third Person
In the rocky lands in between Atlantis and the Conch Command is where they met. Both of them agreed two things when they did. One, there was to be no killing or attempts to kill the other person. And two:
They agreed to meet alone.
KrakenKid prepared himself before he left, silently pacing back and forth and determining exactly what he wanted to say. He didn't know how much time they'd have together, but KrakenKid knew he had to make it count. It wasn't every day he got a face to face and solo encounter with the penguin, so he needed to make it something they'd both remember.
In his room, he began to vent, mostly to himself. After recent events, it was no wonder why. Walking back and forth on his carpet, he began to let his anger run free.
"How does Cody, an arrogant, amnesiac, orphan, son of a murderer, somehow team with Captain Deadlock, his enemy! A man he's despised from the beginning," KrakenKid slammed his arms onto the table, making everything on it jump. A glass on the table shattered when it fell to the floor from the shock. "Just to keep me from winning?"
The leader of the Tide Changers let out a low growl. In the last battle, Cody somehow bribed Captain Deadlock into being on his side. His side! Cody hated the guy! He always called him a cheater, but no. No, he used him just so KrakenKid wouldn't win. And it burned him up inside. "I wanna be in the room where it happens."
His two Illithid guards echoed his words. "The room where it happens... The room where it happens."
KrakenKid turned away from his table and started to make his way down the stairs. "You've kept me from the room where it happens,"
He stopped in the middle of the hallway, the one spot where guards weren't around and let his head drop. His eyes closed and slowly, he came up with a way to finally express exactly how he felt, to the penguin.
"For the last time."
As he left, Darrel quickly stopped him and gave the kraken some advice. "Keep it formal." He insisted. "No matter what you do, appear formal. Make him fear you." To which he nodded and finally made his way out of the caves.
Keep it formal? Oh, he could do that.
He knew exactly what he was going to do.
Cody waited in the designated spot, his body leaning to one side as he huffed. The sun was beginning to set and the water was getting colder by the second. The king stared absentmindedly at coral and at fish swimming by, starting to get bored. The sound of swimming approaching him made his focus snap back into place and his eyes scanned the area before a purple figure came out of the blue and paused. In the fading light, his glowing yellow eyes only appeared more sinister, which made Cody shiver.
KrakenKid moved in a way that was almost like a dance. He sauntered forward, swaying to something that Cody didn't know or understand. It oddly reminded Cody of a dramatic entrance an evil Disney villain might have. Though the thought might have been humorous in his mind, Cody couldn't take his eyes off of his enemy as he moved. There seemed to be something hidden deep within it-- something that Cody couldn't place. A hidden emotion.
Cody expected him to stop a few feet away from him, like how anyone would, but instead the kraken took a different approach to it. Grabbing the penguin's hand, KrakenKid pulled the two of them close, almost inches from each other. Cody's eyebrows raised, wondering what the heck he was doing. The kraken smirked and started to speak. Cody almost mistook it for singing from the way he was talking.
"Dear Cody Maverick," He started. Cody started to wonder why he was starting off in a similar way to which someone would write a letter, but the thought was gone when something else started to occur. KrakenKid took each of his hands into Cody's and began to sway them.
They began to dance.
Cody instantly questioned what the heck he had gotten himself into.
"I am slow to anger." KrakenKid said. "But I toe the line."
Cody found himself being spun in a circle, like a top toy. "As I reckon with the effects," KrakenKid stopped Cody from spinning and went back to the waltzing position, his eyes narrowing. "Of your life on mine." The king paused, starting to get where this was going.
KrakenKid pulled away and turned his back to him, staring off into the distance. "I look back on where I failed, and in every place I checked,"
The Tide Changer suddenly whipped around, eyes locked onto the brown one's and filled with hatred. "The only common thread," His voice was filled with hate and he marched forward and pointed accusingly at the penguin. "Has been your disrespect."
Cody's eyes narrowed this time as KrakenKid took a breath to calm himself a little. He took up Cody's hands again and they started to waltz around again. "Now you call me "Amoral,"" KrakenKid rolled his eyes as they moved. "A dangerous disgrace," He stopped, his face unreadable to Cody.
"If you've got something to say name a time and place." KrakenKid quickly dipped the penguin before he had any idea of what was happening. As the king was dipped, KrakenKid arched his back towards him and hissed, "Face to face."
Though Cody expected to be let up, the arms supporting his back suddenly disappear and he fell a short distance before hitting the ground and groaned. Propping his body up with one arm, he watched as KrakenKid spun around and faced the other direction. Something told him that the villain was smirking.
"I have the honor to be "Your Obedient Servant."" Cody could taste the sarcasm dripping in his voice, much like venom. His head slightly tilted to the side as Cody picked himself off the ground, like the kraken was adding something. "K dot Kid." He said out loud.
KrakenKid seemed done, like he got everything out that he needed to say, or do and started to walk away. Cody however, was not done. Boy, did he have a response for him. Seeing as KrakenKid did it in such a way, Cody saw a similar way to respond that would get him back for it all.
KrakenKid's two main tentacles crossed each other behind his back as he attempted to leave with the last laugh. Cody wasn't going to let him have it.
Roughly grabbing one of them, he pulled KrakenKid back, making him stumble and would have fallen over, if Cody hadn't done the exact same thing he did and started to dance with him.
"Mr. KrakenKid," Cody started off the same way he did, like it was in a letter. "I am not the reason no one trusts you." KrakenKid's expression quickly changed from the smirk he had on before, the layer of confusion when they started to dance, all the way to the same annoyed look Cody had on before.
Cody started to make the pair of them spin as they moved in a circle. "No one knows what you believe!" His brown eyes narrowed. "I will not equivocate my opinion, I have always wore it on my sleeve."
The penguin then released his grip and the pair circled each other, both in a threatening way and in the same way people would for a waltz or square dance. "Even if I said what you think I said, you would have to cite a more specific grievance." He pointed out. They did have a long history after all.
Thinking back, he smirked and pulled out a paper. When KrakenKid mentioned wanting to meet up, Cody was made a list of all the crimes KrakenKid either directly committed, or one his Tide Changers did. He wanted to discuss them, but now he had a better use. Tossing it over, KrakenKid caught it and started to scan it. "Here's an itemized list of thirty years of disagreements."
"Holy smokes..." The kraken mumbled under his breath.
"Hey!" Cody caught him off guard by grabbing his arm and going back to the waltzing positions. "I have not been shy." He pointed out, then released his hand from one of his rivals arms and used the other to make him twist out. "I am just a guy, in the public eye, tryin' to do my best for the republic." He then pulled him back in and close to his chest. "I don't wanna fight."
The king of Atlantis then put on the most intimidating look he could manage. "But I won't apologize for doing what's right."
Smiling wider than before, Cody started to do an underarm turn, but spun the kraken around really fast and let go, causing him to spin and collapse on the ground, now having no more support to keep him upright. "I have the honor to be, "Your obedient servant.""
Cody turned away, just like the villain did before. "C dot Mav." He added.
KrakenKid, now overcome with rage, sprang up and grabbed one of his arms and turned him around. Both locked hateful gazes.
"Careful how you proceed good man. Intemperate indeed good man." He spat and leaned in. "Answer for the accusations, I lay at your feet," Cody felt the grip on his arm become even more painful. "Or prepare to bleed good man!"
"Kid, your grievance is legitimate. I stand by what I said," He returned the look and yanked his arm away from him. "Every bit of it."
Cody turned away and took a couple steps out, staring out into his beautiful city. "You stand only for yourself! It's what you do!" He suddenly whipped around. "I can't apologize because it's true!"
"Then stand, Cody Maverick." His voice became cold. He took a step closer but still kept his distance at a foot away. "Third Sector. Dawn. Guns. Drawn."
Cody's head tilted up without him knowing, almost making himself seem bigger and more intimidating. "You're on."
Almost as if they planned it, they took each other's hands and took a turn to spin the other person around, eyes rolling as they did so. "I have the honor to be, "Your obedient servant,"" They said at the same time and broke away, turning to the direction of their separate homes and backs to the other.
"C dot Mav." Cody said, glancing over his shoulder.
"K dot Kid." KrakenKid returned it and both instantly started to walk back home, never looking back.
*****************************************************************
Okay, I probably confused more than half of you with this, so let me explain myself.
Whenever I heard this song, it always reminded me of an argument between KrakenKid and Cody, and I actually saw a couple animations of this song where two enemies would "Sing" this and dance to the music as they did. Since I can barely draw, much less animate, I went to the next best thing!
Writing.
I wrote exactly what I could see these two doing if they were passive aggressively dancing.
There was so much research going into it, mainly because what the crap are half of these dance moves called? I figured out the waltz pretty easily, the underarm turn thing was harder and anything else I couldn't find so I just described the best I could. Hope I didn't confuse anyone too much.
I had a lot of fun with this! I know, I should be working on my bigger things like Sea Serpent instead of doing yet another one shot, but I simply couldn't resist! Probably my favorite parts to write is where Cody and KrakenKid "accidentally" mess up while dancing, meaning when KrakenKid dropped Cody while dipping him and Cody spun him around but let go.
Also, the "K dot Kid" or "C dot Mav" thing was like a signature at the end (I.E- K. Kid)
Ahhhh, so much fun... And not feels-y! I've been doing a lot of that lately so this ought to help!
Anyways, I hope you liked... Whatever this is! Be sure to comment thoughts and such, and if you did like this song, there are like 46 songs just like it under the name of Hamilton. Also, yes I am back! I had some important projects to work on so I went a little inactive there but I'm here! Farewell!
