J.W.Y || Little Him
"Use your words, baby," Wooyoung encouraged tiredly as he pushed the cart to a different aisle with one hand while his other was pressed against the baby sling to support the napping infant.
When another shriek pierced through his ears and everyone else's at the supermarket, he turned back to see the fuming mess of a four year at last; she clearly didn't like what he told her.
"Nana," he warned as the said child stomped in place aggressively, "you aren't being nice right now."
Nana didn't reply with anything but louder ear-piercing shrieks before she charged toward her father, bumping into his leg intentionally before continuously punching it. It looked funny, very funny, but Wooyoung knew that laughing would only encourage her bad behavior more.
"Yeeh!" Wooyoung gasped dramatically as he bent down to move her away from his leg and look her in her eyes. It seemed like even then she was fighting to go back to beating him. "Nana! What's wrong with you?"
Nana could speak alright; in fact, she has a viciously extended vocabulary, but she has refused to let out a single meaningful word the whole day. Throwing tantrums seemed to be on her checklist for the day.
This time, instead of jumping at Wooyoung, she decided to attack her little sleeping brother.
"Yah!" Wooyoung pushed her away from the sleeping child before she could wake him up, "what are you doing?!"
"Dada!" Nana cried as she gripped onto his leg while looking up to meet his eyes.
Wooyoung and Zena were both expecting that Nana would start acting up once they had a new addition to their family, Wooyoung just couldn't understand why she always pulled this on him alone.
"Talk normally," Wooyoung instructed calmly before turning around to grab a can of tomato sauce to add to their cart. Nana threw another tantrum at his legs. As he walked, he had to drag her weight along him as she gripped onto him like there was no tomorrow. He was thankful for wearing a belt today.
"Wow, look over there, isn't that a child like you, he looks so well behaved, I think they will buy him ice cream," Wooyoung mentioned purposefully as he took an item off the shelf to check its ingredients.
Nana looked around furiously but saw no one. She began to cry. Not a cute little cry, no, full-on sobs until she couldn't even breathe.
"I hate you!" Nana yelled before storming off. Wooyoung watched as she ran away, tripping midway, picking herself up, and running again until she threw herself at the edge of the aisle and sat on the floor. She continued crying
Wooyoung got the item before pushing his trolly down the aisle and picking different things that were mentioned in the list he carried, and some that weren't mentioned too. He could feel the infant in the sling move around, so he paused to check on him.
"Kyu-yah," he muttered as his fingers stroked through the infant's light brown locks. For a 3 week old baby, he surely had a lot of hair.
Kyu fiddled around a bit before settling once again. When Wooyoung looked up, he could no longer see Nana.
Panic rushed through his veins like a drug.
"Nana!" he called out as he pushed the trolly to the edge of the isle before stopping to look from both directions only to catch no sign of her. "Nana!" he called again. "Nayoung!"
He left the cart and walked in one direction, he checked all isles on his left and right till he reached a dead end before walking back to do so in the other direction.
"Nayoung!" Wooyoung yelled as he turned his head to the isle on his left, "Nayo-You little brat!" he muttered under his breath as he saw her with a teenage couple and in her hands was the candy he had told her not to get a while back. It took all that was in Wooyoung from willpower not to rage right now. He walked to the couple who were crouching beside his daughter and wiping her tears as they asked her some questions.
"Nana," Wooyoung let out, and the little criminal jolted in place.
"Oh, is this man your daddy?" the girl asked, but Nana only jumped to hug the girl as she shook her head while crying loudly. Wooyoung was beyond shocked.
"Yah! You brat! I'll leave you here, Jung Nayoung!" He lost it, and his voice triggered Kyu to start crying as if it couldn't get any worse. The couple awkwardly tried to stand up, but Nana wouldn't let them go. The guy picked her up.
"No, no, not you, Kyu," he rocked the child, but it didn't seem to be working. He glared at Nana who was looking at him sideways before looking away when she saw him glaring at her.
"I'm so sorry," Wooyoung spoke to the couple, "she is my daughter, she just loves being dramatic," he told them as he whipped out his phone from his back pocket to show them the photo on his lock screen. It was of him, Nana, and Zena. The teen couple awkwardly looked at the picture before they attempted to peel Nana off of them. Wooyoung sighed before stepping in to pull her away as she fiddled and kicked her legs before he put her down in fear of her hitting her brother accidentally. "Sorry for the trouble, thank you for taking care of her."
"Oh, it's nothing, she is a cutie," oh, were they lying because there was nothing cute about this devil reincarnate.
Wooyoung awkwardly smiled at them before walking away as he dragged Nana along with him while she refused to get up from the floor, but it almost broke his back, so he turned to look at her as he noticed the couple still standing there and looking. "That's why you shouldn't have kids," he sighed out as he scooped the troublesome girl into his arms. Once he did, it seemed like all her problems faded as she giggled in his arms. He looked at her with a beyond-done expression as he walked back to their trolly.
"That's it, you abused your freedom, so you will sit in the trolly now," Wooyoung declared as he put her down in the cart's seat before he snatched the sour candy out of her hand.
"Ah! Ah! Ah!" she wailed out as she tried to grab it back from where she sat.
"No, you don't get candy for being a very very very bad girl, today," Wooyoung made sure she knew why, "besides, you don't even like sour candy!"
"No! I like it!" Nana whined.
"So now you're talking? Oh, what a miracle!" he gasped back sarcastically. He rocked Kyu slowly as the baby finally calmed down again.
"Oh, what a micacle," she mocked back with her terrible pronunciation as she crossed her arms over her chest and refused to look at her father.
"Yah!" Wooyoung breathed out in disbelief, "you can't survive without talking back?!"
"Sulvive, talking back," she mocked with less confidence under her breath as she shook her head.
"I-" Wooyoung almost screamed before halting. What is he doing fighting with a four-year-old at the grocery store?
But then he remembered he was her father and had the upper hand that he would gladly abuse right now. "No ice cream for you," he stated nonchalantly as he pushed the cart to a different aisle and continued shopping. Nana was caught in disbelief before she started crying loudly.
"No," she cried, "no, I want ice cream!" Nana kicked around in her seat as Wooyoung walked a little farther away to grab something.
"Oh, really?" he asked feigning sympathy, "too bad." She cried harder.
"I'll tell mommy!" Nana threatened, Wooyoung put down the bag of rice as he turned to her looking shocked.
"Oh, really?" Wooyoung asked. "What do you think she would do once I tell her what you did today?" Nana gulped as she bit her lip.
Wooyoung walked to her before he tightened her pigtails and fixed her little white and pink dress that was now almost gray. Without a doubt, Nana continued crying.
"Daddy!" she cried while hiccuping, "please, don't tell her!"
"I don't even need to tell her, look at you. Your hair is all messed up, your princess dress is dirty, she would know once she sees you."
"No," she wailed, "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry."
It didn't take long for Wooyoung to give in to her tears because regardless of how annoying she is, she was way too cute for her own good. He realized that he got that often, too.
"Alright, alright," he gave in, "stop crying, dummy." He got a napkin out of his pocket to wipe her tears and her snot. Once he moved his hand, she attacked him with a hug this time, squeezing Kyu in between them. He patted her back gently as he chuckled to himself.
"Don't ever run away from me, Nana, you could've gotten lost, or taken away," he spoke seriously and felt her little hands clutch her shirt tighter. "Alright, alright," he chuckled, "now let go, we have more things to buy."
"Will I get ice cream?" Nana asked.
"Is that why you're hugging me? Am I being held hostage till I agree to your demands?" Wooyoung laughed and although she didn't understand most of what he said, she giggled along.
"Yes," she spoke.
"Alright then, it looks like I have no choice," Wooyoung sighed, and Nana pulled away with satisfaction, "but to tickle you to death." She didn't see that last part coming. Wooyoung poked her sides until her lungs almost gave up on her, so he slowly stopped and then continued his shopping trip.
"And yes, we're getting ice cream," Wooyoung confirmed, and Nana squealed in delight and pulled him down to her to leave a huge wet smooch on his cheeks.
"Thanks, baby," he replied before he kissed her forehead too.
"Kyu?" Nana asked as she looked at Wooyoung, and he nodded giving her permission. She leaned in to leave a loud kiss on her brother's head. Wooyoung giggled before pecking Kyu, too.
Suddenly Wooyoung's phone began ringing, so he took it out of his pocket as he skimmed through the items on the shelf, replying without checking the contact.
"Hello," he spoke as his other hand patted Kyu's head gently.
"Wooyoung," Zena's voice could be heard on the line.
"Oh, hey, bab-"
"Where are you!?" Zena's loud voice caused him to remove the phone from his ear as a reflex.
"We are at the grocery store," he replied nervously as he put three more items into the cart.
"All this time in the grocery store!" she yelled.
"Uh, you see," he looked at Nana, and she shook her head in fear, "we had a little problem." He could hear Zena momentarily sigh on the line.
"What," she breathed out, "what problem could possibly cause you to stay at the grocery store for over an hour when I sent you with a list of 15 items only!" her voice gradually heightened as she spoke.
"Uh, well," he looked at his daughter as he licked his lips, she pouted, and her eyes filled with tears, "uh, you see," he gulped, "there was terrible traffic!"
"What?"
"Yeah, it was so bad, we only got here 5 minutes ago," Wooyoung added spice to the story, "and, a guy almost crashed into us!"
"Are you serious?" Zena asked, not knowing if he is joking or not anymore.
"Yes, yes, I'm telling you."
"We were scared!" Nana added, and Wooyoung high-fived the tiny devil.
"Oh, gosh. I'm glad you guys are alright," Zena said, "did the car get damaged?"
"No, not a scratch thankfully, but it did hold us up."
"That's fine, take your time, just get home safe. How's Kyu doing?"
"Eh," Wooyoung patted his head, "tell her, dude." Kyu's little snores served as a sufficient reply.
"Alright," Zena laughed, "what about Nayoung."
Wooyoung gave the said toddler the phone as he continued shopping.
"Hey, mommy," she muttered cutely.
"Hey, baby," Zena responded with the same energy.
"Are you feeling better now?" Nana asked.
"Yeah, way better, just tell your daddy to hurry home, and not waste time buying unnecessary stuff." Nana looked up at her father.
"I'm not buying unnecessary stuff!" Wooyoung argued.
"Yeah, of course, it's all because of the traffic," she spoke with attitude.
"Literally, yes!"
"Jung Wooyoung, do you think you can fool me?" Zena questioned, "you were in on it too, Jung Nayoung."
"N-no!" Nana spoke in denial, "it was daddy, h-he said it all!"
"Wow, you sold me out like that, Nana?" Wooyoung uttered in disbelief.
Zena laughed on the phone. "Just when I thought she couldn't grow to resemble you more."
"I don't sell people out!" Wooyoung argued as he snatched the phone back.
"Sure, whatever, just come back home quick, I'm starving."
"Alright, we'll be there in 15 minutes max," Wooyoung replied.
"Bye, Nana, bye Kyu, mommy loves you," Zena sent a kiss through the phone that Nana reciprocated.
"What about me?" Wooyoung rolled his eyes, but the phone hung up leaving him shocked. Nana never saw anything funnier in her life apparently as she giggled all the way to the cashier.
His phone rang again soon enough, and he picked it up.
"Yes, your majesty?" Wooyoung spoke bitterly.
"I love you, too," Zena said making Wooyoung slightly coo, "don't forget to get milk ." His expression went back to an annoyed one.
"Is that why you called, tsk, I can't believe you thought I'd forget that," Wooyoung tsked feigning offense over a different matter.
"I didn't, I just needed an excuse to call," Zena giggled.
"Alright then, bye, love you."
"Love you, too. And pistachio flavored ice cream, please."
"I'm hanging up."
"Bye," she laughed.
