After what seemed like forever and not enough time all at once, the train finally came to a stop and all the passengers moved to get the luggage; something that Mai didn't have to do thanks to her impulsivity that she dwelled over the entire road here.

Although her legs were paralyzed by how long she's been seated, her nerves got the best of her, and in a second, she was by the door waiting for it to slide open.

She stepped outside with her eyes on her phone wanting to text San after reconnecting to the signal and make sure he was serious about waiting for her at the station or if she should just go home on her own; however, she didn't need to because the second she looked up she noticed the familiar man wrapped in a familiar scarf at the far end searching around.

A stupid grin was plastered across her face, lighting up her exhausted features, and her eyes sparkled with newly found moisture. Without a thought, she rand up to him.

"Sannie!" she yelled, but before the man could even turn around fully, she had him tackled in a rib-crushing hug.

"Mai!" he gasped out as he stumbled backward before steadying himself. "Shit, did you come all the way here in this? You're freezing!"

"If I went back to my apartment, I wouldn't have had the time to catch the train," she explained as she caught her breath and pulled away slightly.

For a moment, they both looked at each other before they burst out laughing.

"I can't believe you're actually here!" San laughed out as he pulled her back into his arms for one tight squeeze.

"I think it's gonna dawn on me at 3 a.m., but for now, I don't care," she replied in a giggle, a sniffle interrupting her words. San took off his scarf before aggressively wrapping it around her.

"Don't get sick now," he chastised as he covered half her face in it, leaving her black bowl-cut ballooning upwards, "your father is probably going to beat me up for getting you here anyway, I don't want him to kill me for making you sick, too."

"I won't get sick," she rolled her eyes, her voice coming out muffled, so she pulled down the scarf that originally belonged to her. When she looked up, her breath caught up in her throat once her eyes met San's, and time seemed to drown out with the noise in the background.

It hasn't been a long time since Mai left, barely over 6 months, yet it felt as if San had changed over that time. Work has weighed on his shoulders, and exhaustion was apparent in his smile, yet he looked so happy to see her; it made her feel guilty for keeping her feelings a secret.

     It was now or never.

"Listen," Mai breathed out, " about the call earlier, I-I just want to say that I'm not sure if you meant what you said, but to me, it is serious, I-" her breath got caught up in her throat, "I really like you, San, you are my best friend, and I thought by shoving aside my feelings for you I was saving our friendship, but I don't think that anything in this world could ever tear apart what we have, and I might be greedy to ask for more, but I can't help it because I can't see myself with anyone else beside you, and if you don't feel the same way," her eyes got more and more teary as she spoke, "I-I will respect that, and nothing has to change between us because you'll always be my favorite person."

"Mai," San uttered once he processed her words, his hands rose up and squished both her red cheeks, forcing her lips into a pout. "Did you not hear my reply before the line disconnected?"

Her eyebrows inched closer in confusion, and she shook her head with whatever control she could get.

"You were never the sharpest tool in the shed, but I didn't expect you to be this dense," he laughed, and she frowned. "I'm kind of disappointed you didn't notice my multiple attempts at confessing to you; I thought you didn't like me that way so I backed down," he admitted sheepishly.

"You like me?" Mai huffed out through her pouty lips incredulously, making San deadpan.

"Merry Christmas, Mai," San replied with a giggle before he leaned down; Mai inhaled sharply and shut her eyes, only for him to peck her nose instead before he let go of her cheeks.

"Are you serious? I take a 7 hour long train ride to see you, and this is what you do?" Mai scoffed, making the pale man confused, a soft blush rising to his ears.

"What else did yo—" he was silenced once she pulled him down and pressed her frozen lips to his. When she pulled away, San was too dumbfounded to say anything.

"Gosh, I've wanted to do that for so long," she let out, ignoring how heated up her body was despite the cold.

"Wait, what?" the man stood in place, utterly dazed, which made Mai burst out laughing.

"Quit laughing!" San groaned, but an underlying chuckle ruined his attempt at being serious. "This is harassment, you know? What happened to consent?" he chuckled out his question as he pulled her to him.

"Oh, well, sue me?" she shrugged with an eye roll, not expecting him to kiss her then and there. She gasped into him lips with widened eyes before she brought her palms to his cheeks and kissed him back, allowing all her bottled up passion to translate into her actions. Her hands in his hair and his arms around her felt so right, she couldn't believe she doubted it for a second.

After always rolling their eyes at the couples kissing in the subways, they became them; San realized, making him giggle into the kiss. Slowly, they were overcome with their lack of oxygen along with their continuous giggling, so they settled with their foreheads against each other as they caught their breath.

"How long?" San suddenly asked, confusing the girl.

       "How long what?"

"You said you wanted to do this for so long; how long?" he asked shamelessly, making her blush.

"That's something you'll find out in our wedding vows," Mai breathed out an answer.

"We're getting married?" San laughed, "I didn't even get to ask you to be my girlfriend yet!"

"Never mind, you'll find it out in your eulogy," Mai deadpanned as she tried to break out of his arms only for him to pull her back and nuzzle into her neck, tickling her. "Stop!" she giggled as she tried to push him away, but she couldn't, and maybe she didn't really want to.
