A Magical New Year's Eve Pt.1 (Woosan) F, A

(Loosely inspired by TXT'S song Ghosting)

It was 4 weeks before New Year's Eve, and KQ High School was as busy as ever in its preparations for the annual Midnight Formal. All through the halls, the sounds of squeals from girls being asked to the dance was ear-piercing to Wooyoung as he walked to chemistry lab with his three best friends, Yeosang, Yeonjun, and Changbin.

"Ugh, why are these silly girls acting like this?" he complained, rolling his eyes.

"Cause they're excited, Wooyoung! After all, who wouldn't be? This formal is one of the biggest events of the year," Yeosang said, obviously anticipating the closely looming day.

"Yeah Wooyoung," Changbin chimed in, "just cause you're not looking forward to it doesn't mean I'm not. I can't wait to have a blast with my friends-"

"Your date, Felix," Yeonjun cut in.

Changbin glared at him. "First of all, I never told you I was going with him. And second, how did you know... wait, never mind!" he exclaimed, blushing furiously.

"Ha, I knew it!" shouted Yeonjun triumphantly as Yeosang giggled. Even Wooyoung had to smile at this.

"Ooh... you're going with Felix?" he questioned, really happy for his friend.

"Uh, yeah." Changbin grinned, his eyes turning into adorable crescents.

"That's adorable!" Yeosang cooed as Yeonjun had a good laugh. Changbin started shooting death rays from his eyes at Yeonjun.

"Yeah, yeah, you're one to talk. I know about you and Soobin-"

"Be quiet!" Yeonjun exclaimed, his eyes darting around frantically. "He might hear you," he added as he glanced quickly at Soobin, who was thankfully paying no attention, as he was busy chatting with Huening Kai.

"What, so you're not dating?" asked Yeosang.

"No, we're not," Yeonjun replied, looking forlornly at Soobin. "I think he likes Kai, so I don't want to mess anything up by telling him I like him."

"Yeonjun, I don't think Soobin has a crush on Kai," Yeosang said confidently.

"Wait, how do you know that?" Yeonjun quipped, looking briefly hopeful.

"My boyfriend, Jongho, is good friends with both Soobin and Kai. Once, he decided to ask if they were dating, and Soobin said no, he likes someone else. And Kai pretended to throw up. After all, he's only a freshman."

"Really?!" Yeonjun shouted, jumping around like a kangaroo. Then it was as if he was a balloon that was being deflated. "So he likes someone, then. There's no way he actually likes me, though."

"You won't know till you ask him, however," Yeosang pointed out.

"Yeah, I know, but I'm really scared to. I don't want Soobin to hate me."

Changbin finally rejoined the conversation with, "Well, if he hates you, he's not worth your time. Cause you deserve someone who loves you, you know." He patted Yeonjun on the shoulder comfortingly.

Yeonjun beamed. "Aw, thanks bro! That's really sweet."

Changbin smiled back at him, then said, "Oh, it's late, I gotta get to gym. See you guys later!"

The other three waved, then Yeonjun asked, "Wooyoung, so why don't you like the formal? Did you ask someone that turned you down or-"

"No," Wooyoung said shortly.

"Then why?" Yeonjun persisted.

"Just leave me alone, Yeon-" Wooyoung suddenly stopped talking and directed his stare down the hallway.

"Wooyoung, what's wrong- oh..." said Yeosang understandingly, for it was no other than Choi San that Wooyoung was gazing at. Yeosang was the only one who knew about Wooyoung's crush on San; after all, Yeosang was Wooyoung's best friend.

Yeonjun exclaimed, "Wooyoung? Do you like San? Omg, that's so cute!" before Yeosang slapped a hand over his mouth.

"Will you shut up for once?" Yeosang whispered, annoyance prevalent in his husky voice. "He might hear you, do you really want to embarrass Wooyoung?"

"No, I don't," Yeonjun replied, looking ashamed of himself. Just then, the three heard a familiar voice.

"Hi guys! What's up? I think I heard you all say my name; do you need anything?" San smiled at all of them, his signature dimples making him look irresistibly cute. His eyes rested on Wooyoung, then San said, "Hey Wooyoung! Long time, no see."

"Uh-h, hi-i San," Wooyoung stuttered, blushing furiously.

San grinned even more, then said, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. My friend Seonghwa is looking for people to help with food for the formal, and I hear you're a pretty good cook. Would you mind helping out?"

"I-I, uh-m, I- "

"Yes, he's glad to help," said Yeosang, shoving Wooyoung toward San.

"Yay!" exclaimed San, his dimples now deep wells in his flawless face. "I'll go tell Seonghwa now! Thanks, Wooyoung," he said, giving him a quick hug. "Bye!''

Yeonjun and Yeosang waved, while Wooyoung was having a million heart attacks at once. Yeonjun was quick to tease his friend. "Ooh, calm down, lover boy," he snickered. Wooyoung was still too bewildered to glare at him.

"Choi San actually hugged me," he said as if it he had to confirm that it was reality.

"Yes, he did. Wooyoung, we're not living in an alternate universe, you know," Yeosang said jokingly. Wooyoung blushed shyly and stuck his tongue out at Yeosang.

"Hey guys, look at the time, we're going to be late for chemistry lab!" Yeonjun exclaimed.

"Shoot, you're right," Yeosang agreed, "let's get going." They ran down the hallway, accidentally leaving a dazed Wooyoung behind, who certainly had a different type of chemistry on the brain...

☆~☆

Weeks quickly passed, and the formal was just a couple of days away. Yeonjun had successfully asked Soobin out, so he was beyond thrilled and had been spending less and less time with Wooyoung as the dance approached. Changbin had been spending all his spare time with Felix, so that only left Yeosang.

"Sangie," Wooyoung whined one afternoon before going to Seonghwa's house for yet another food planning and cooking session, "how am I going to do it?"

"Do what?" Yeosang sighed exasperatedly.

"Face San again... he keeps looking at me and I can't take it anymore!"

"Remind me, why is San even there in the first place?" Yeosang questioned.

"He's Seonghwa's best friend, plus, he's going planning, organizing, and, at least in his opinion, is the official taste-tester - which I find really cute," Wooyoung added dreamily.

"Then ask him out! Wooyoung, I love you, but you are beyond clueless. He's so obviously trying to show you he likes you, so what are you waiting for?"

"I don't know, ok!" Wooyoung snapped. "I don't want to mess things up - again..."

Yeosang was just about to yell at Wooyoung, but he paused and thought for a second. Things? Again? What was he talking about? Yeosang softly said, "Youngie? Is there something you're not telling me?"

"Yes..."

"What?" Yeosang pressed.

"We used to be really good friends, until I ruined it by catching feelings for him. Not wanting to screw up our friendship, I was an idiot and completely ghosted him. San never stopped pursuing me, whether out of friendship, a crush, or something else, I don't know. To this day, I still love him and want to be with him, but I think he hates me. That's it,'' Wooyoung sighed.

Yeosang blinked in confusion momentarily, then asked indignantly, "Why did you not tell me this before?"

"I felt too ashamed," Wooyoung admitted, pouting.

"Well, as your bff, I would never be ashamed of you, ever. I'll never judge you, only offer advice if you want it."

"Thank you, Yeosang," Wooyoung said, hugging him gratefully.

"No problem," Yeosang replied, ruffling his bff's hair playfully. "Please ask San to the dance today when you see him at Hwa's house; trust me, you won't regret it."

"Ok, but I make no promises."

"Yeah, yeah," Yeosang chuckled. "Now get out of here, you're going to be late!"

"Oh yeah... bye!" Wooyoung ran out of the room, a new confidence rushing through his veins. He was going to ask San out tonight, definitely, no matter what.
