I fumbled with the locket in my hand. I had never got to ask Jack about it, so I ended up keeping it on me this whole time.

I've been thinking about asking Zer0 about it since he's been trying to help me learn emotions. I've already learned a new one! The bad feeling I get whenever he follows me constantly is called being "annoyed" but he says that there are a lot of different words to describe it, so it'll take a while to learn them all.

I hear a knock at my door.

I put the necklace back into my pocket and stand up from sitting on the edge of my bed. I take my time walking to the door and I open it to see Rick along with a child that looks similar to him.

"Heeyyyy Y/n." He says and scratches the back of his neck. "So, Luc and I were wanting to have a day to ourselves and, you know, spend time together without the kid, sooooo... Can you pleaseeee watch Sam for us? It'll only be for today! Please, I'll do anything in return!" He begs me and I watch the child, his son I'm guessing, stare up at me.

"I guess I can watch it, I don't think I have anything to do today anyway." I respond.

He immediately jumps up and hugs me while repeatedly yelling out "thank you!" over and over.

He lets go and squats down to the child's height.

"Ok Sammy, this is Y/n. He's going to take care of you for a while ok? I'll be back to pick you up soon okay?" The kid nods at Rick before walking warily to me and reaching up at me.

I look at Rick confused.

"Oh! He wants to hold your hand." He clarifies for me.

I look down at the small creature and lower my hand down to it's reach. Instantly it grabs on and smiles. I feel warmth in my chest at the sight of the innocent smile. I feel the urge to pat it's head, but I don't.

I don't want to accidentally hurt it.

"Aw you two are so cute! Ok, well I'll be back before long so don't worry! Bye Sammy!" He waves bye as he turns and goes down the stairs that lead to the main lobby of the motel.

I look down at the child and quickly start to panic as I realize...

I don't know how to care for human children.

"Come with me." I lead the child quickly to Zer0's room that's next to mine.

I knock swiftly on the door and wait.
He opens the door with a "?" on his helmet. He then looks at the child whose hand is still linked with mine.

"The child is Rick's. I do not know how to take care of a child. Please help." I explain.

He looks at me then at the child. "I... Also don't know. / I think that he will need food? / That's all I know of."

I look down at the child as I speak. "Are you hungry?" I ask.

The child shakes its head no.

I look back at Zer0. "What now?" I ask him.

"Make sure that he's safe? / I think that is most of it?"

I look around and see no danger.
"Do you have any weapons in there?" I ask Zer0.

"They are all on me. / I can put them in your room. / But at least one stays." He tells me.

I nod and motion for him to do that as I lead the child into his room. I take note that it's much cleaner and less used looking than mine.

I sit on his matress and the child sits on my knee. It takes an immediate interest in a spring that is coming out of the mattress beside it and starts playing with it. I see Zer0 come back into the room from the corner of my eye as I watch the child. I notice that he stopped walking and was now just staring, so I turn my attention to him.

"You stare a lot." I say and he jumps a little, apparently surprised from being caught.

"I was just thinking. / Didn't mean to stare at you." He explains and I hum in acknowledgement as my attention turns back to the child.

I feel the mattress shift lightly to the right of me as he sits down.

How much does he weigh? He barely impacts the mattress.

I wonder as I notice how little the mattress dips under him compared to me.

Oh. Now would be a good time to ask.

"Here." I say as I hand him the locket after fetching it from one of my pockets.

"?" Appears on his visor.

"I want to know about this. The people in the picture, why are they like that?" I ask as he opens it and looks at the slightly bloodied pictures.

"I think they're in love. / That is why they are kissing. / Lovers kiss often." He explains to me.

"Oh I've heard of that one. Rick said he loves his partner and this child." Said child is now yawning and has taken hold of my shirt. I didn't have my armor on except for my helmet, but I was still wearing the uniform that normally goes beneath it. The child buries his face in my shirt and closes it's eyes.

Is it trying to go to sleep?

I look to Zer0 for help but he just shrugs.

The child quickly falls asleep.

"I'm afraid to move." I whisper to him. I hear him laugh lightly.

We sit in silence for a bit and I think.

I look at him and whisper; "I think I may understand what love feels like."

He jumps slightly and "//////" appears on his visor again, but I'm still unsure of what it means.

I look at the child.

"I feel like I would die for this child without hesitation, so I think that may mean that I love it?" I elaborate.

The lines disappear from his visor and he goes silent.

"I think you are right. / There are different kinds of love. / That is platonic." He tells me.

"Love is confusing." He nods in agreement.

We continue to sit there in silence for a while until at one point I feel a sudden weight on my shoulder.

I look over and Zer0's head is now resting on my shoulder and "ZZZZ" is now on his helmet. I can't blame him for falling asleep, I feel myself drifting away slightly.

I lean back slightly so I'm propped up against the wall and I adjust Zer0 and the child so they are more comfortable.

I eventually feel myself drift off into sleep.

EXTRA:

Rick opens the door to Zer0's room about to shout about how he can't find Y/n or Sam anywhere only to stop immediately from what he sees.

M/n is laid back against the wall with Zer0 leaning chest first against him with his body is stretching across him so that he is seated to the right of M/n but his head is rested on the others left shoulder and one of Zer0's arms is wrapped around Y/n's waist. Sammy is curled up to Y/n's side and clinging to his shirt as he sleeps.

Rick hardly keeps himself from squealing in fanboy delight at the sight of the possessive hold Zer0 has M/n in as they sleep. It only gets harder for him to not go grab Delira so they can ship it together right then as he notices that Zer0's head, well helmet, is nuzzled into Y/n's neck.

He quietly scoops up Sam from his place clinging to Y/n's side and leaves a note on the table saying not to worry and that he had come to get Sam while they were asleep.

He just has to tell Delira all about this.
