Beautiful Words

What has happened to the beautiful words

Flowing silver and honey glazed sin that whisper from the lips of men

Raining down like falling stars upon a moonlit sea?

Where have they gone, so far away that no eye can behold

As they slip past the graying line of the horizon,

Silk against skin, a crown gold upon the beholder's brow,

Now lost forever, fading beyond the edges of the universe?

Slander fills the streets, words spat and thrown, words cut and stabbed

Ripping through the air like a poisoned blade of black iron

Thrust deep into my heart where blood and prayers pour from.

What has happened to the beautiful words

Soft as down and ringing with the bells of a hidden magic

That resound like thunder and crashing waves?

Where hence has flown the eloquence,

A flock of white-winged birds headed south to flee the bite of winter

Now nesting amongst magnolia sweeter than the gentle whispers of a lover

Gone from the frozen land of bitter tongues?

Curses reign on the mortal Earth, spread to the four winds far

Whisking up the unwary without the guard of more melodic things

Where shouting drowns out the heavenly music.

What has happened to the beautiful words

That spake of a greater truth, a greater beauty, a greater love

Wrapping the galaxies in bonds of glorious light, of fantastical colors of dreams

Where has the meaning of those words gone, why their beauty faded

Like photographs of old times when grass was greener and skies bluer,

Constellations dancing through the realm of the stars

Where the beautiful words seem to have gone as well,

Another dream faded to velveteen black.
